IELTS Speaking: Part 1 Basic Overview and Strategy

For IELTS speaking part 1, the examiner will introduce him or herself and ask you general questions about common topics such as home, family, work, studies, and your interests.

General Information:

Time: 4-5 minutes
Topics: 3 topic areas on common topics such as home, family, work, studies, and your interests.
Number of questions: 10-11 questions (examiner must ask all questions)
2-3 introduction questions
4 questions on topic one
4 questions on topic two

Sample Topics

Let’s talk about your home town or village:

what kind of place is it?
what’s the most interesting part of your town/village?
what kind of jobs do the people in your town/village do?
would you say it’s a good place to live? (why?)
Let’s move on to talk about accommodation:

tell me about the kind of accommodation you live in?
how long have you lived there?
what do you like about living there?
what sort of accommodation would you most like to live in?

Basic Strategies for IELTS Speaking Part 1:

Focus on Fluency: Don’t hesitate or stop while you’re answering.
Be Short and Simple: Don’t give long, detailed answers. One or two sentences is enough.
Complete Your Sentences: One word answers are not enough. Make complete sentences. (e.g. “I live in Tokyo.” not “Tokyo.”)
Finish Strong: Say your answer and then end your sentence with confidence. Don’t keep talking on and on (rambling).
Be Confident: Even though your body language is not scored, your posture and even your facial expression can affect how you speak. Sit up straight but comfortable, smile, and make good eye contact.
Relax and get comfortable: Part 1 is a warmup and is not where your main score will be decided. Use it as a chance to get comfortable speaking with your examiner.
What other good strategies have you used for part 1? Share in the comments section.

100 IELTS Speaking Part 2 Topics In 2016 & 2017 & Sample Answers with download link:

http://adbilty.me/Klh2

After completing Part One (usually after 4-5 minutes) the examiner will move onto Part Two of the speaking test.

In Part Two the examiner gives the candidate a topic card and the candidate has one minute to prepare and make notes. After the one minute preparation time the candidate is required to talk about the topic for between one and two minutes (as a rule you are expected to speak for at least 1 minute 30 seconds—anything less than this and your “Fluency” score may be reduced).

Candidates do not need to worry about ‘timing’ in Part Two because the examiner will stop the candidate when the clock hits two minutes.
The best strategy in Part Two is to keep talking until the examiner says stop. Candidates are naturally nervous in this part of the test so it is not good to try to guess the time.

IELTS Myth: Most people believe that in the speaking test, Part One is the easiest. Part Two is more difficult and Part Three is the most difficult section. With regard to performance, this is not usually the case. Most candidates perform quite well in Parts One and Three but the Part 2 performance is usually the worst part of the interview.

Download, get ready for your test.

Difference between peace and harmony;

Peace is where there is quiet and serenity no conflicts within or without.

Harmony is when there is resonance and joy, celebration and sharing with other entities in peace.

There is peace between neighbors when they don’t fight, harmony when they share jokes and gossip, poluck dinner and cocktail.

How to Prepare for IELTS
If you need to study in an English-speaking country or work in one, you may be asked to prove your level of English with an IELTS Exam. IELTS is the International English Language Testing System. Here are some steps to succeed.

Steps;

1
Start with the official IELTS website. There you will find a lot of information about the test, e.g. the test format, how many sections it has, etc.

2
Consult your nearest British Council (www.britishcouncil.org), as they will provide you many helpful materials for taking the test, or you may like to practice classes for the test.

3
Try to find out your weak points and start working on them (e.g.if you are not so strong in the writing section then you should start with this and eventually you will like it), or if you have difficulties in the speaking section then start to talk and think in English, as there is no better way to learn speaking. If you think in English you will be able to express yourself more naturally.

4
Start reading newspapers, journals and articles and you should be well informed about the current issues used for the speaking and writing topics. You can discuss those issues with your friends in English as that'll help you to prepare better for both sections-3.

5
Listen to the BBC and CNN, or watch British movies, shows and music. Spend 30 minutes on listening to the BBC news every day if you are not a native speaker.

6
Choose an achievable goal. To obtain a satisfactory IELTS Band Score, it is necessary to be realistic. Your skill and dedication must match your overall goal for English proficiency. It is important to know what an IELTS score in any of the Sub-tests means before you set yourself a goal.

7
Practice, practice, practice. Set aside the most hours you can spare each day to practise English for all four Subtests. Do not concentrate only on your weakest areas. Be regular in your practice, and give yourself a rest between tasks. Take at least one day out of your week to rest and forget the test completely. The secret of success is to work towards your goal slowly, steadily and regularly. It is best not to leave any long intervals between your practice and your test.

8
Increase your personal speed. In the IELTS, time is your enemy. Candidates who have taken the test and did not perform as well as they had hoped often complain that they were unable to give all the answers in the Listening Test because the tape was too fast, and that they ran out of time in the Reading Test.To begin with, do not worry if you do not finish the tests. Remember, the test is designed to measure candidates over a range of scores from 0 to 9 (0 indicates the test was not attempted). Candidates whose English is near perfect can expect to score 9, but even native English-speaking people would be unlikely to complete every Listening Test answer perfectly or finish the Reading Test a long time before the examination ends.
The Listening, Reading, and Writing Tests are usually given in that order, and are usually held on a single morning. The combined length of those three tests is 2 hours and 30 minutes. (The Speaking Test is conducted at an appointed time in the afternoon.) Only one short break is given between the Reading and Writing Tests, so you need to be at your best for a long period of time, which is why you must sleep and eat well before the test. The hints and guidelines in this article should help you achieve your "maximum speed". The more effort you put in, the faster your personal speed will be on the day.

9
Develop a memory for English. In the Reading Test, it pays to remember as much as you can of what you have just read, but at least the words can be read again. However, in the Listening Test you cannot go back, and the tape is only played once. If the answer comes before the keyword/phrase, your memory of what you have just heard is even more important. Nevertheless, the answer usually follows the keywords/phrases that you hear, and is close in time to the main keyword/phrase you are listening for.

10
Buy the recent books about IELTS such as "EXAMINATION PAPERS CAMBRIDGE IELTS" so that you can practice by yourself. If you learn well in a group, YouTube and Facebook can help you in this case. Like the pages (Facebook) and subscribe to the channels (YouTube) related to IELTS. This will help you to manage your budget and lead you to worldwide learning. You can then easily discuss about a point with the people( who are on the same boat) from all over the world. It's fun and effective.
