Stuart Wilson Fairground Miniatures
Ultra realistic miniatures capturing the magic of the traditional travelling funfair - United Kingdo
Almost finished all the Twist floor frame main sections at last. Trial build-up to restore my enthusiasm for next steps...
More progress on the Twist floor frame. Centre sections now complete and outer sections have locators for the uprights etc all made ready for assembly. This has been a bit of a challenge all in brass but it should be nice and strong and has a nice weight to it 👍
More floor frame sections loosely assembled and parts cut for remaining ones.
I've just about cut all the metalwork for the floor frame on my 1:24 Cyclone Twist...now onto the arduous task of drill-tap-assemble.
Recent visit to this beautiful machine (Edwards, Dingles)...must build mine up again soon...
Cyclone Twist 1:24th, slow build-up 😁
Slow progress this week, work and garden duty interrupted proceedings...1:24th Cyclone Twist circa 1962ish
Started painting the floor on the Cyclone Twist. I sprayed the Speedway but for this one I'll stick to the brushes I think. These are the outer sections, the inner ones will be yellow 👍
Just done a quick calculation 🧐... Upwards of 960 individual parts in the main circular floor sections, haven't started the centre sections yet 😮
Got some paint onto the lower arms of the Twist. This ride will predominantly feature orange, cream/yellow and red.
Going to start cutting some floor sections soon to get an overall feel for heights and dimensions etc in case I'm not happy with something further down the line.
Haven't yet decided on style of trellises and paybox, that'll need a beer and some browsing of old photos
Bit more progress on the Twist.
Some parts now in red oxide primer and first seat frame constructed.
Centre has also been levelled and run up 👍
For the extra observant you might have spotted that this ride will run clockwise
A lot of cutting and filing going on with my 1:24th Twist build. Top pic is parts for a seat assembly.
So far so good, should start proper assembly soon and get some colour on it 👍
1:24th 1960s era Twist - Building up on the grass (I thought it looked better for the progress pics 👍). First batch of parts cut for arm number 1. Needs some time on the needle files to clean up a bit but assembles pretty nice already.
Today's progress on the Twist. Lower arms loosely assembled. I've now run out of materials after being let down on a delivery (just when it was going well!) so there will be a week or so delay before I get the top arms cut and assembled.
I've levelled and run the centre and it runs really solid even with only the jacks levelling it which is reassuring 👍
1:24 scale early 1960s era Twist. Been busy cutting metalwork and building a base up this week. I'm reasonably confident progress will be relatively fast on this, I largely finished the design a couple of years ago, just need to make it!
I have to say brass has gotten a lot more expensive since I started this project 😮
A bit of progress on the Twist lower arms. Bearings pressed into housings, tyres offered up and all seems to fit pretty good so far.
This will be a friction drive hence the use of the small tyres which will drive the satellite arms (when I've made them!).
I've made some basic calculations for the rotation speed of the outer arms so they should in theory be quite close to good but the outer tyres can be moved in or out slightly before final fix which will change the speed 👍
At last, progress recommencing on the Twist!
As I left it before temporarily losing my workshop due to house renovations I'd cut the main arms and was about to start mocking up drive axles/wheels to get the rotation speed for the car sections.
The ride will be built almost exclusively of brass where possible and is 1:24th scale.
Wishing Everyone a Very Merry Christmas and a Prosperous, Healthy & Happy New Year ⛄🎉🙏
One from the archives... Bloody kids leaving their rubbish...now where's my 1:24th bin bags 😁👍
(Note the coke cans are period 'ring pull' ones, don't want to set the wrong atmosphere 😉)
A couple of shots when building the 1960/70's inspired amusement arcade. I actually made 3 arcades, the one in the first pic is built up at half depth, the others are twice the size. All 3 fully build up and pull down. As usual 1:24th scale...
In the shed with No.2 😁
No.2 - 1946 Scammel Showtrac
1:24th Coronation Speedway
Looking through the photo album earlier...liked this one...Speedway and Swings side by side...
Today seems a fitting day to post a picture of my Royal Coronation Speedway packing truck. The model is based on rides originally built to celebrate the coronation of King George VI in the late 1930s. What a shame no-one has built something similar to celebrate Charles today
Just got a new shelf and found it's just right for showing the Speedway load 😁
