February is Reynaud’s Awareness Month – so I wanted to use today’s health tip to look at what you can do to manage the condition naturally. This is something that runs in our family and sadly I find I get it at this time of year certainly triggered through the cold.

Reynaud’s is thought to be triggered by stress, and/or the cold, which causes the blood vessels to narrow, reducing circulation. The condition usually affects the fingers and toes. Common risk factors include smoking, certain medication such as cancer drugs, and even cold medicines. The best strategy to reduce and maybe even avoid symptoms is to protect yourself from the cold, exercise to increase circulation, and avoid caffeine which can make things worse.

Omega 3s improve your circulation – so in terms of your diet include plenty of oily fish, it may be worth taking a good quality supplement as well. Regularly include plenty of ginger, garlic, cayenne and chilli in your diet as well. Top up your magnesium levels too, as this can help open the blood vessels. Finally, rutin is an antioxidant that supports the health of your blood vessels so it’s worth adding in foods (and drinks) like apples (with peel), buckwheat and figs.

In the Herbalife range the Herbalifeline Max is an incredible complex fish oil that I LOVE - it really helps and not only helps circulation but is anti-inflammatory so can assist things like asthma, arthritis, IBS etc - Omega 3 is so important in the diet and you cant make it yourself so must get it through your diet. You can add things like ginger and fig to your shake :-)
