Getting ready to share the love with patients, parents and staff of CHOC, CHLA and UCSF Children's Cancer Centers! Once again, SusieCakes and FRoCs will be delivering yummy cupcakes this September to mark Children's Cancer Awareness Month.

Mother's Day Arrives Early at CHOC!
Tomorrow morning, we will deliver 200 SusieCakes® Cupcakes to Moms/Caregivers and Oncology Staff at Children's Hospital Orange County (CHOC). Along with those, we'll gift Mother's Day Craft Bags to 50 kids on the Oncology Floor and Out Patient Clinic. Thank you SusieCakes® for your generous partnership and for our donors who helped make this happen!

We are proud to include SusieCakes Cupcakes as our official partner for the 2023 FRoC Mother's Day program, "Cupcakes for Caregivers". Their cupcakes will be part of the delivery we make to CHOC and CHLA this Mother's Day. Not only will we recognize moms and caregivers at a child's bedside, we'll also gift cupcakes to the Oncology doctors, nurses and staff who care of these kids fighting cancer. With funding for research and lots of luck, we got Cathryn from photo on the left to that on the right. She survived toxic, life threatening and life impacting treatment to now thrive at college. She's a lucky one, trust me, I've felt blessed and guilty through the years for our good fortune. Maybe that's part of the reason why I founded Friends of Cathryn Foundation 12 years ago.

We kick off this month with a happy post. Cathryn, our inspiration, has just begun college as a 12 year cancer survivor. We are so very lucky/blessed/fortunate or whatever you want to call it to have her reach this milestone in life. There are thousands of children who haven't and won't. Lets keep those kids in mind as we build awareness and support for children's cancer throughout this month.

Thank you to our volunteers at National Charity League, we were able to assemble and send 200 FRoC Essential Kits to 4 children's hospitals in the Maryland/Wash DC area. Parents of a child suddenly diagnosed and hospitalized will now at least have some basic hygiene items to support them while they focus on the care of their child. Thank you NCL, Laguna!

I met Ronan's mom, Maya, when we lived in Arizona and to say she was a force is an understatement. We connected as moms of Neuroblastoma kids and hiked a few times. Maya would hike the hot, rocky trails barefoot, she would curse those who left Bibles on these trails so she famously hiked, often in pitch dark of night. She blogged with a heart so devastatingly broken by the loss of her beautiful boy it caught the attention of Taylor Swift's mom. That connection resulted in this song and the proceeds from which have helped Maya work towards improving treatment for kids like Ronan, Cathryn and hundreds to follow. Ronan is one of hundreds of losses to this hateful disease but his short life has not been in vain thanks to the hearts of a fierce and firey mom and the most talented song writer of our time. Neuroblastoma is a hideous cancer which effects so few kids each year (600 diagnosed with high risk NB each year in the US) that the funding for less toxic therapies is impossibly difficult to receive. Most of the institutions devoted to Neuroblastoma research rely on private philanthropic donations.And, despite what St. Judes emotional holiday ads would have you believe, children's cancer is NOT an 80% survival disease! That's for one type of Leukemia, only. If we can make a difference for kids like Ronan, we need to fund this research together.

Thank you, CHLA/USC and Dr. Judy Villablanca for recognizing the importance of delayed diagnosis in children exhibiting what could be symptoms of cancer. Our partnership, with this paper as a launch pad, will educate physicians, nurses, medical students and other clinicians to work more closely with parents in order to more effectively diagnosis cancer when presented in a child.

Thank you to every single donor and supporter of this Challenge. On Friday, our charity partner, the Friends of Cathryn Foundation, gifted the Children's Hospital, Los Angeles with a check for $20,000, all raised from YOU, donors and fundraisers to this event. The donation will fund research for a rare children's cancer called Neuroblastoma; funding clinical trials at 13 children's hospitals in the US, Toronto and Australia. Your miles are turning into smiles for infants and young children diagnosed with this often terminal cancer.
