Usually this page is about celebrating the exploits of our current and former players. But I wanted to take a minute to direct people to an article about race in ultimate. Item #6 is incredibly important to me, and I imagine all of you. The rest of the post is also important and something that I think is close to everyone's heart. While the issue of representation in our sport might feel large and difficult to tackle for some, this article gives a few concrete examples that we can work towards in our local communities.

I've said this too often in the past two days for it to not feel a little trite, but this is one of the best games I have ever been involved in. Japan played amazing ultimate and it was an honor to be challenged by them and to get to watch our players rise to the challenge.

Congrats to Alex Snyder for winning Ultiworlds' offensive player of the year award. I once said that if I could make a team for any tournament for any reason Alex would be on that team. I still stand by that statement and this article discusses why. Way to go, Alex!

Not to be out-done, BOTH Anna Thompson and Tannor Johnson get the Ultiworld Mixed Division Player of the Year runner up spots. Can't wait to see them both on the same team this weekend.

Interesting Fact: The 2018 USX team has players on all four of the mixed division semifinalists (AMP - Michael Ing, Anna Thompson; BFG - Alissa Soo; Slow White - Tannor Johnson; Mixtape - Ari Lozano, Claire Revere, Henry Phan). So no matter what the family picks up another championship this weekend, but it also means a difficult time cheering tonight.
If you have a chance, share, like, or even contribute to the cause. These players are going through a lot to get to Australia, so any way you can help them makes a difference.

Towards the back end of the page on "underrated" players is one Emmy Kolanz. The write up is good, although I find the idea that Emmy is underrated laughable. It looks like the rest of the world is catching up to what we already knew.

As is my style, I am late to get this out. This time my excuse was that I was playing something called frisketball. All the same I am super excited to introduce everyone to some new friends. Jake, Lauren and I are very lucky to get to work with them between now and January. I have already begun working on excuses for why I haven't finished their highlight reel yet. Tracey Lo was probably spot on.
Last cycle, after our last game, a reporter asked me about our team's youth involvement and what I did with that. I chuckled in my head and thought "nothing" but then was swelled with unfounded pride when I thought of the people we have had on this team and how they have given back to their communities. Today USAU recognized Jon Nethercutt with a coach of the year award for his region. Good job, Jon, and well deserved! And thanks to all of the former and future U24 players for all the things they have done to help youth (or college in this case) grow in their regions.
And finally congrats to all the USX alums who tore the beach up in France this past week! I think there were six total players winning medals on those teams. Eli Kerns, Jack Hatchett, Jon Nethercutt, Sarah Meckstroth, Claudia Tajima and Simon Higgins. I guess all of those Lei Out trips were really just practice.
Listen to Assistant Coach Lauren Boyle's interview about tryouts this past weekend on Ultiworld.com
U24 Tryouts 2017: Interviews With Lauren Boyle, Tom Manewitz | Ultiworld The first day of West Coast tryouts is in the books.
Thanks to all of the tryouts that gave us two great weekends and some difficult choices to make. It is the most energizing (and then agonizing) part of this process to see all of the young talent out there that is going to be crushing it for years. Also thanks to our alums (Elliott Erickson, Rebecca Miller, Lisa Pitcaithley) and guest appearance by Men's team alum Marcuss Ranii-Dropcho for giving us more eyes both weekends. It is an impossible task to see all of the awesome that happens at these tryouts so the help is much appreciated.
I got permission to share this. One thing that I have greatly admired about ultimate communities, and some of the people who have graced this team, is their desire to give back. This is a (pretty sweet) way to do that as well. Please thing about applying.

Wait, a reasonably functional website from USAU? Surely this is a joke. Ogre's face on the U24 Mixed page makes me think this is a joke. Side note: I remember that bid and being freaked out that he was going to break a rib. Anyway, check it out! Extra side note: That the Facebook image is Lisa P's sock company is pretty awesome. Editor's Note: This is not a joke, this is real . . . and surprisingly well done (5/18/17 12:27 EST).
Also the U20 head coaching application is live. I know many of you played on those teams and I personally think many of you would be excellent head and assistant coaches. So if you are interested, fill out the survey. It never hurts to get an interview and the worst they can do is say "no." You all are the leaders of this sport and finding ways to give back will continue movement in the right direction.

As this forum/outreach mechanism languishes behind my aging hands and technology's fast pace (I think I'd be late to the the snapchat party even if I showed up) it still can serve as a beacon for some information.
Today I read an article by non-USX member Bert Abbott. There are many excellent points in this article about the mixed game. Not that it matters, but I agree with it almost completely and whole-heartedly.
There are many more things to be said. Pretty much after every sentence I thought "yeah, I remember when our team did that and it WAS awesome." But every time I start writing all of those things down it comes out jumbled. So read the article. Bert is a better writer than I am and hopefully it will remind you of things too.
Bert Abbott Don't Blame, Reframe 4/13/17 Note: Because the divisions of our sport run along a gender binary, including within the Mixed division when fielding a line, I follow the gender binary in my terminology. I want to acknowledge that the experiences of trans* athletes exist in our sport. Those experiences are complex and intersect wi...
