Well done to our crew from Church of Ireland in Cork, Cloyne and Ross, who headed up to Portglenone, in Ballymena, to work in CIYD Connect Cafè at Summer Madness this year.
A great few days were had with lots of mingling, chatting and cups of tea!
The fab four did an amazing job!
Our Nathan got "promoted" at the CIYD Connect Cafè! He's a pure slave driver🤣🤣
But no better man for the job to keep everyone on their toes!!
The "Corkies" are out in force at the CIYD Connect Cafè (over 18's venue) at Summer Madness again this year! Pop in to say "hello" to our fantastic 4 - Nathan, Shanice, Darragh, and Niall.
They might just give you a cuppa and a scone and one of their fabulous smiles!!
I must admit, trying to keep me quiet on Saturday, 15th June 2024, at a Diocesan Quiet Day Retreat for clergy and lay people held at St Mary's Collegiate Church, Youghal, was the BIGGEST CHALLENGE of my life.
But it was well needed (for the sake of everyone else there!).
And a great start to my annual leave.
The retreat was led by Brother Tobias from the Society of Saint Francis and the theme for the day was Sharing Christ's Peace in a conflicted world.
Thank you Bishop Paul Colton and Brother Tobias for a calming, peaceful morning.
See you all in July!!!
A day out in Oysterhaven Activity Center was had in June for our 6th class group heading into 1st yr.
We had youngsters from Carrigaline, Carrigcrohane, Bandon, Kinneigh, Kilgarriffe, Rosscarbery, Fanlobbus and Abbeystrewry.
Connections were made, friendships were formed, memories were created!
Good luck to all the Junior and Leaving Cert students starting their exams tomorrow!
I'm a strong believer in "It'll all be grand!".
So get stuck in and get those exams done!!!!
Our 6th Class Day out is happening on Sat 8th June.
If you have somebody about to start Secondary School in Sept and are keen to link up with other's that might be going to the same school, this is a great day to make connections!
Starting at 9.30am until 3.30pm

Email me on [email protected] to check availability
Thank you Fanlobbus Youth Group for the invite to come see ye this evening!
Brought along my 2 lads as well and we really enjoyed the craic...not to mention the food!
A real Sat night treat!!
Had a very exciting few days at General Synod in Armagh last week.
I met so many people, and got to suss out plans and gather ideas for the "Corkies"!!!
And of course, plenty catch ups with the girls!!!
The Church of Ireland Youth Department CIYD, got to eventually give their report on Saturday morning. Simon Henry and Hannah O'Neill, did an amazing job proposing and seconding the report. And displayed a fabulous video of youth events around Ireland! Some of our Cork crew were up on the big screen too!!!
I was meant to be seconding the Pioneer Ministry report Sat evening, but unfortunately, everything got very delayed. So much to my greatest "disappointment", I will be giving mine on Zoom tomorrow evening🤣
Fingers crossed all goes well🤞
We have a new CIYD Youth Ministry Development Officer for the Rep. of Ireland.
The Cork Diocesan Youth Council and the young people of Cork wish Luke Hawkins all the best in his new role.
And we can't wait to have Luke come visit us soon!!!
You're going to love Cork!!!!

A lovely family day out with the whole crew!!!
A family of cousins! I was persuaded by Hilda Connolly our CDYC youth officer in the Church of Ireland in Cork, Cloyne and Ross to stand in with her and all these cousins for this photo after today’s Confirmation Service. I confirmed most of them, I think.
Today, I attended the Confirmation in Clonakilty in Kilgarriffe Union of Parishes with confirmands from that parish as well as from Fanlobbus and Moviddy Union of Parishes, with my trusted companion, Barry!
A lot of his friends were making Confirmation today, so he was delighted to have (side) front row seats to make sure Bishop Paul Colton did a good job!!!
What a fabulous day for such an occasion.
Congratulations to all the candidates.
Thank you to Tara, for making, and carrying our CDYC banner for the procession at the Bishop’s service last Sunday. It's just stunning! Super talented!!
And to Clodagh, Sarah, Shanice and Luke, who also represented CDYC, and bravely stood in front of a packed Cathedral to carry out their parts! Pretty nerve-wracking to look down at a sea of faces!! But they were brilliant and absolutely delighted to be part of the Bishop's celebrations.
It was an absolute honour for the Youth Leaders of CDYC, to be invited by the Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, the Right Rev. Dr Paul Colton, to be involved in an Easter Celebration of Faith and Life together in the Diocese on the occasion of his 25th anniversary as Bishop.
An Easter Celebration of Faith in Cork, Cloyne and Ross on the occasion of Bishop Paul Colton’s 25th Anniversary as Bishop On Sunday, 14th April 2024, the Bishop of Cork, Cloyne and Ross, the Right Rev. Dr Paul Colton, invited representatives from all across the Diocese as well as civic representatives to come together…
First Confirmation of the year!
Well done and Congratulations to all the candidates on making their Confirmation today in Douglas Union of Parishes with Frankfield
And the sun is shining for the celebrations!!
Happy Easter on this beautiful morning.
This year, for Easter, we decided to change it up a little and we set out on a very wet but enjoyable Pilgrimage walk from Passage West to St Michael’s Church in Douglas Union of Parishes with Frankfield, where we finished our walk with a Eucharist service.
When we arrived at the church, a little ahead of schedule, church warden David had a cup of tea ready for us! Lovely hospitality and kindness from the parish and so nice to see some parishioners and parents join us for the service too.
The day also marked Bishop Paul Colton 25th Anniversary as Bishop here in Church of Ireland in Cork, Cloyne and Ross, and he very kindly offered to take the service for us, which made it all the more special for us.
Afterwards, Elizabeth, a member of our Youth Council, presented the Bishop with a little token.
But the icing on the cake after our long walk, was that the Bishop and his wife, Susan, took the group for food in Milano's in Mahon Point.
We had a fabulous afternoon with some whacky table discussions and amazing food and company.
Thank you, Bishop Colton and Susan, and not to mention the young people and leaders who walked without a hint of annoyance over the weather!!!
A super group!
Happy Easter, everyone!!
I am a bit behind in some of my event updates.
Back at the be of March, we held our annual Confirmation Retreat in the Carhue Centre with 30 Confirmation candidates.
On Sat morning we travelled to Ashton School to meet the Bishop for his Confirmation Morning.
Lots of activities, fun and friendships made throughout the few days!
Thank you to the unwavering dedication of our youth leaders who always go to great effort to help out and to get stuck in.
And we are off!!!!
Thank you Bishop Paul Colton, looking forward to our adventures today!
Today is Monday of Holy Week. Young people from CDYC are going on pilgrimage and I will join them at the end in St Michael's Church, Blackrock in Douglas Union of Parishes with Frankfield to celebrate the Eucharist with them and parishioners. Afterwards Susan and I have invited the young pilgrims to join us for a meal.
Our Easter Walk will begin in Passage West, on the 25th March and we will finish up in St. Micheal's Church, Blackrock, for a very special Eucharist service at 2.30pm with Rev Olhausen and Bishop Colton (all welcome to service).
As the Bishop celebrates his 25th Anniversary that day as Bishop in Cork, Cloyne & Ross, we are delighted that Bishop Colton has decided to celebrate his special day with the youth.
After the service, we will head to Mahon Point for a bit of chill time, food and shopping!
This is open to 6th class+
Cost €15pp
Bus leaving from Clonakilty at 9am, collections along the way.
Please contact me if you have someone interested in going.
We made the Tuam, Limerick and Killaloe Diocesan Magazine with our CDYC Youth Leaders Retreat in Muckross Venture Centre in Killarney!
A wonderful venue with a great set up!
It would be an absolute shame to see this close!
If you are looking for a venue for an event, it is worth looking into.
We had a ball!!
It was great to be asked back to my old National School and by my own teacher "back in the day", Mr. Walsh, to give a talk to 5th and 6th class on Social Media!!!
It was a lovely morning spent with the kids, including my own son, Barry.
They were super to engage and absolutely great craic!!
Even the teachers learned a thing or two (by their own admission afterwards🤣🤣)
Thank you, Knockskeagh, for having me.
A huge thank you to Hilda Connolly for her Internet Safety/Social Media Safety talk with our 5th and 6th classes yesterday.
All the children enjoyed her engaging and interesting presentation, including her son Barry !!
All our classes will be learning about Internet Safety as part of our SPHE curriculum.
Thanks Hilda!
Our Confirmation Retreat is now FULLY BOOKED!!!
If you would like to be added to the cancellation list, please contact me on [email protected]
And second up today, our Youth Leaders Weekend in Muckross Youth Venture Centre in Killarney last weekend.
Judging by the photos it looked like we did nothing but eat and drink tea🤣🤣
But I can assure you it was an action packed weekend with great workshops with CIYD National Youth Officer, Simon Henry, based on Daniel and his motivation and dedication.
Which was a great link into the work that our dedicated youth workers do in Church of Ireland in Cork, Cloyne and Ross
Peter and Dean Jeffers gave short reflections. And Niall, Nathan and Clodagh kept us going with very entertaining games and quizzes.
A trip into Killarney on Sat afternoon for shopping and coffee, followed by Judy's home cooking on our return!
And not to mention all the conversations and singsong had around the table with tea!!
Finished off with church in Killarney on Sunday morning.
A weekend of loads more memories, teaching and chilling!
Ok this morning is going to be a bit of a photodump!!!
First up, the Church of Ireland Youth Department's CIYD CIYD Youth Forum in Dromantine Retreat Centre, Newry.
Four representatives from Church of Ireland in Cork, Cloyne and Ross attended the 2 day event at the end of January.
With Susie Mapledorm as guest speaker from Manchester Diocese, speaking on mental health and how God helps to steer us through the tough times.
Each group had to then produce a video to demonstrate how that might look to them.
Absolutely amazing productions, with great performances, directing and script writing!!! Lots of fun, laughter, chats, meeting other's from all over the country.
Thank you Simon Henry (National Youth Officer) and Barbara Swann for another successful Youth Forum

Obviously a quiet affair with Simon Henry on board!!!

Tomorrow is a big day for Steve Grasham as he starts his new role as joint Lead Evangelist to the new Sunderland Centre of Mission. Steve will be part of a team heading up new mission initiatives assisting churches in their reaching out in word and action, sustained and empowered through prayer, to reach children, young people and adults with the good news of Jesus Christ.
CDYC and all the young people from Cork, Cloyne & Ross (past and present!) would like to wish Steve a very big "GOOD LUCK" for tomorrow.
We miss you loads, but the Diocese of Durham and Church Army have gained a true gem and legend!
