Surinamese Cuisine
Surinamese cuisine is widely considered nothing less than exquisite. The Surinamese diaspora remains emotionally attached to the good food they remember from "back home". Whether in The Netherlands, The USA or anywhere else on this globe we always reminisce about Pom, Pastei and other Surinamese delicacies. And everywhere we have Surinamese people who are somewhat integrated in
to their new environments, the typical Surinamese cuisine rubs off. Small wonder that most people in Holland now know about these sometimes simplistic, yet always delicious dishes. Culinary Synergy
Historically Suriname has been a miniature United Nations and its now inhabited by people with a distinctly different descent. In a melting pot of cultures from Africa, India, Indonesia, China, Europe ( Holland, Portugal etc.) to name a few, it was almost inevitable for us not to just coexist, but actually integrate and assimilate to some extent. As a result Suriname has one of the world's most varied and diverse cuisines. Despite its relatively small population, Surinamese food is pure culinary synergy, where the outcome is much more than the sum of the parts. Norma
Norma, the official caterer for the Surinamese Mission to the UN, is certainly not a novice in the kitchen. For years she has been enabling many to indulge in flavors they'd almost forgotten. Either as their caterer, restaurant chef or friend.
