As I see these episodes of play on repeat, I’m reminded how you got your name. Preston Burke, the best Cardiothoracic surgeon on the show. He was the King of Hearts, like you. You were the Surgeon and no player played with more heart than you. When built to honor their first black athlete that died playing football, it became my mission to have the Renaissance City Chargers play at a stadium named in year honor. Never thought we’d become a or that I would become a proud Eastsider but here we are. In your neighborhood. At your school. What better way to honor you than to play where you played? Every kid that plays or cheers for us will know who you are. Every player that wears 3, had better in some way be like you. We’re trying pull this thing off with a month left but when I feel like tapping out, I remember your words, “Shoot your shot, but you will never diminish Burdy. So instead grieving you, I’ll work tirelessly to give the love I have for you to all the kids in the , , , community, and find the next so until then, no grief. Just grind. This community will be made better because you were a product of it. #3030 has a little league team in honor of and I love it! I hope I make you as proud as you always made me…this is for you.

We had a lot of 8u, 10u, 12u talent out there today. If we can get the Raider kid, Seminoles kids, and all those young bulls from the projects that walked over, we may have a shot to pull this thing off. 14u is going to have to work fast but if Joi Morgan and Curt got some people ready to go, we might could make something shake. Remember, 15 players makes a football team according to PAL and 5 makes a cheer team. We’ve got a little over a month. I’m all in. I’m doing flyers, brochures, barbecues, knocking on doors, social media blasts, and canvassing the community. A lot of teams have small numbers so don’t get down about what we don’t have, stand on what we do create buzz and excitement in the fact that we’re bringing PAL back to this neighborhood for the first time in over a decade when COURTNE hosted the Titans before they moved to Harper Woods. We’re going to build this thing up, get the Carstens kids, coach em up, send to Southeastern, get to to college, the league, whatever want to do but the story is going to start with us and the work we do over the next month to make it happen. I’m tired but I’m inspired. So when I want to be through, I push through. Those kids aren’t bad. The just need some love, and I love on them in a way that makes them want me to let at em some more after summer school at practice…and it feeds my soul. I wanted a to create a staffing agency and a nonprofit organization that would allow me to use “education, athletics, and employment” to “Rebirth the City of Detroit, One Citizen at a Time.” I thank You for every second, victory, defeat, friend, foe, meeting, Zoom, call, chat, text that got us to this moment where we were accepted on our first attempt to provide programming for as the stand alone program provider. Thank You for every child under our charge, every administrator with whom we partner, every educational partner we are able to employ, every family we are able to impact, and every site we are able to service. Please cover and keep Bennett, Priest, Emerson, Charles Wright, Marquette, and Carstens. Bless them and bless them indeed and enlarge our territory to create opportunities to employ and serve more people! Cover us and DPSCD with the Blood of Jesus and keep all from hurt, harm, or danger! There is no greater insult that someone can give to me than to say that in spite of all of my efforts, that I am not doing enough. Additionally, not doing what you said you would do. I make it no secret that it is my desire to be full time and to run as its Executive Director 24/7/365 and made a citywide, nationwide, global impact upon youth. This is a mission and vision that began at my cubicle in 2013. I have seen it through. We became a semipro team, an after school program vendor with , launched Flag Football, became at team (partnering with ) to bring launch the first all-inclusive football and cheer team in Detroit, and most recently became a Summer Program Partner at 6 schools and employing nearly 30 people this summer…yet there are some that say that because I still have a corporate job while I wait for this to become a full-time lifestyle that I’m not doing enough to make it happen. Though the Renaissance City Chargers haven’t become a multimillion dollar venture yet…does not mean that I have not tried with every fiber of my being to make it happen. And though I may not have all of the full time coaches yet that I plan to have does not mean that we will fail. So thank you for providing the much needed bulletin board material that I so sorely needed to will this forward but please be mindful of who I am and more importantly “Whose I AM” because “no word nor weapon formed against me shall prosper” and that is inclusive to you and yours. So if anyone is looking to support this mission and vision to uplift the , , , .lenox , , community, love to work with you, but if you don’t wanna rock…that’s cool…we’ll roll without you…just make sure you use this excerpt as a point of reference because you heard it here first.

In the 12 of history of the Renaissance City Chargers, there has never been a cooler, calmer, collective customer than QB/FS/ATH Dez “Slim” Johnson. The coolest hand on the ranch. Never in the history of the program have we had a leader such as he. He got the most of his linemen, his receivers, and the defense. He could even keep me from cussing everybody out but calmly saying, “I got it, G.” Seldom speaks above a whisper but has the loudest voice in the room. Never missed a workout, event, or fundraiser. Knew who to get the ball to and when to keep them involved, engaged, and in the game. Timely takeaways to close games in the clutch. He called last night to say that he was proud that we’ve become a team and I let him know that we aren’t who we are without he and his friends, we wouldn’t exist. Our coaches have been missing practices and players/cheerleaders have been in and out with graduations, prom, weather, and Chris Brown, but when I was a little tired and a little down, my main man Slim, from Of Mice and Men, hit my line, gave me a pep talk, told me he was proud of the work we’re doing for the , , , , and .lenox community. So thanks Slim, for making it cool to be apart of our organization and for always saying/doing what needs to be said/done. You named me “G” and I hope I’m living up to your expectations in leadership of this organization.

Renaissance City Football
I. Warmup - High knees, butt kicks, shuffle backpedal, 3/4 sprint. Knee raises, toy soldiers, lounges, 4 way knee raise. 15 minutes.
II. Special Teams - Kickoff, kick return, punt, punt return, field goal, field goal block. 15 minutes.
III. Tennessee - OL vs DL, RB vs LB, WR vs DB, TE vs DE. Line up and knock your opponent backwards. Get knocked back, you lose. 15 minutes.
III. Oklahoma - 1 RB, 1 OL, 1 DL, 1 LB. Line up and see who wants it more. 15 minutes.
IV. Individual - This is the least amount of fun but it’s the most important. This is where you win games. This is where basic fundamentals are taught. In first part of instruction keep each position separate. In second part, have them apply their technique against their counterpart in 1 on 1 competition. 15 minutes.
V. Inside Run - 9 on 7. QB, RB, FB, TE, 5 OL, vs DL and LBs 15 minutes
VI. 7 on 7/1 on 1 pass rush - 15 minutes
VII. 11 on 11 - 15 minutes
VIII. Conditioning/Cool Down -Sprints, Jog, Stretch - 15 minutes
