Academy for Peace Education - APE

It is the Academy for Peace Education’s hope that while located in the academy we can bridge this gap between community and academia by providing college students of peace and social justice studies–as well as other related programs, departments, and fields–with the knowledge and skills for professional peacemaking and activism. We believe that activism and higher education are neither separate nor mutually exclusive, but instead, conjoined in the creation of a better world.

Academy for Peace Education (APE) is geared toward (1) promoting peace activist trainings and workshops on college campuses and (2) training college students interested in creating positive, professional, effective social change. We educate students about tactics and strategies for campaigns, communication, legalities, collaboration, and nonviolent direct action. Our approach to peace education is intentionally broad so as to encompass and respect different philosophies, practices, and struggles. Our ultimate goal is to provide others with the tools for creating a more peaceful, inclusive, and socially just world. While our workshops and trainings are open to all, our focus is training college students and informing them of professional careers in field of peace and social justice. There are many amazing organizations that do specifically target activists and the community such as the Ruckus Society, Highlander Research and Education Center, American Friends Service Committee, and Trainging for Change.

There are three workshops to be held at various locations, depending upon attendee interest:

Basic Workshop (3 Hours) – randomly offered
Intermediate Workshop – (8 to10 hour workshop) – once a month
Advanced Workshop (18 to 20 hour weekend workshop) – six times a year
