BFK Weather
I’m a Meteorology student at the University of Oklahoma School of Meteorology who’s expected to graduate soon.
I have created this page to do some weather forecasting on.
The high risk for excessive rainfall has now been extended from the coast near LA through the Inland Empire for tomorrow!! Biggest concerns will be flooding during the work commutes! In the mountains above 5500 feet, the concern will be icy/snowy road conditions. 🌧️❄️
A multi-day severe threat’s coming to the south today into tomorrow. First from SE Texas into the Florida panhandle today. Then Florida up through the Carolinas tomorrow! These storms will be moving fast and some have a potential to produce a few tornadoes. All hazards are possible with the largest hazards being very strong straight line winds and tornadoes. Be ⛈️🌪️
SE Texas (including the Houston metro area) is under a severe threat for tomorrow. Any storms that form along the warm front will be capable of producing a few tornadoes given the environment they’ll be in! Be ! ⛈️🌪️
Hurricane Hillary has sped up a bit and will be arriving in SoCal late tomorrow as a tropical storm! A lot of the inland areas in SoCal are under a tropical storm warning and also a high risk for excessive rainfall Sunday through Monday! ⛈️🌀
Hurricane Hillary will be a hurricane when it hits Baja and a tropical storm when it hits SoCal! The weather prediction center has already issued a moderate threat for flash flooding though out all of SoCal and a high risk for some of the inland and mountain areas for when Hilary arrives in SoCal! ⛈️🌀
SoCal folks:
Tropical Storm Hilary is on a path toward SoCal and is expected to be a tropical storm by the time the storm reaches the SoCal coast Monday after being a major hurricane off the coast of Baja. This is definitely something to keep an eye on in the coming days. The primary concerns are strong winds and street flooding! 🌀⛈️
Southern California: A series of storms for next week!
There’s a series of set ups for some rain and snow next week with a series of troughs blasting through throughout next week. Kind of another atmospheric river event in a sense, but with temperatures 10-25 degrees below average! Snow levels and accumulations will vary depending on where exactly the surface temperatures are at, but I would not be surprised to see snow levels down to around 2000-3000 feet at times next week! 🌧️❄️
California’s Atmospheric River event is in full swing this week! Much needed rain with street flooding that’s a concern below 6k feet and hazardous winter driving conditions above 6k feet! 🌧
A tropical development with now a 70% of developing in the coming days! It’s still a bit too far out to tell exactly where it’s going, but is definitely something to keep an eye on 🌀⛈
Severe Thunderstorm rolling into Downtown Houston! 60 mph wind gusts, street flooding, and lots of lightning. Stay with us for streaming live coverage: abc13.com/live
The minimum temperature at Galveston yesterday was 85F. This not only breaks the old record high minimum of 84F (set in 2020) but also marks the 5th consecutive day of record-breaking low temperatures for the island.
***OUTDATED***
7AM Tropical Update: NOAA NWS National Hurricane Center continues to monitor a disturbance along the northeastern Gulf of Mexico for a possible cyclone formation. A slow development of this system is expected as it moves westward. The probability of cyclone formation in the northwestern Gulf in the next 5 days is still LOW (20%).
8AM Tropical Update (5/30/22):
For those interested in the tropics: The NHC is monitoring a possible cyclone development near the Yucatan peninsula around mid-week or in the northwest Caribbean by the end of the week. This is partially related to remnants of Hurricane Agatha from the eastern Pacific. At this time, this disturbance does not pose a threat for Southeast TX. However, this is a good reminder that the hurricane season in the Atlantic Basin and Gulf of Mexico starts very soon. Make sure you have a hurricane plan in place!
Spring time in Oklahoma! ⛈
Big changes to our forecast pages! To avoid any confusion between °F and °C, we've converted all of our temperatures to Kelvin. Enjoy!
So I guess you can say things are getting pretty serious. Rainfall amounts have trended up 📈 since yesterday. Most widespread and heaviest rain still expected during the day Monday. There's a slight chance of thunderstorms ⛈ Monday evening-Tuesday morning as well.
The evolution of a nice lightning bolt caught on camera tonight!
Hail Update: Large hail likely tonight in the strongest of storms. Areas in orange will see the risk for up to GOLF BALL SIZE HAIL. This does include ALL of the OKC METRO.
Areas in blue will see up to QUARTER SIZE HAIL.
A lot of the northeast will be seeing some snow tomorrow into Sunday! The areas shaded in white have chances of seeing at least 4 inches of snow, areas shaded in green have chances of seeing at least 8 inches of snow, and areas in orange could be seeing a foot or more! The coastal areas may end up seeing some wet snow as well, especially with the help of cold air damming. So honestly, if you’re anywhere in the northeast, be prepared because winter is not going anywhere! ❄️
Being to the southeast of a developing low pressure center with this winter weather event means that we’ll have a layer in the atmosphere where it’s above freezing. Even though it’ll be in the 20s as highs, this winter weather event will probably mainly be an ice storm event with snow lovers like myself a bit disappointed
