A few things that inspired me today..

🌻An 1887 painting by Fernand Khnopff titled “La soeur de l’artiste”.
🪺An old letter found in an 1897 book.
🪻Old, well used paint covered paint brushes.
🐿️ The sight of a tree in bloom.

In a world that often rushes forward, I find solace in cherishing the beauty of the past. Each stroke of paint, every word penned, carries with it the weight of history and the echoes of those who came before us. It’s a reminder to slow down, to appreciate the richness of our heritage, and to find inspiration in history.

There’s something magical about their graceful petals that brings such inspiration, especially in the midst of winter.

Last week, I shared this beautiful antique book I found for my personal collection and asked if you wanted a peek inside. A lot of you voted yes, so here’s a small glimpse into this 1908 treasure, “The ABC and XYZ of Bee Culture.”

I can’t get enough of the gilded bee on the cover, the beautiful illustrations, and the endless knowledge it holds. It was hard to pick just a few pages out of over 500, but here are some of my favorites. I hope you enjoy discovering the hidden gems tucked within these antique pages.

I hope you had a relaxing weekend! Mine was spend mostly in the kitchen cooking all kinds of yummy foods, relaxing and playing around with my new vintage watercolour palettes. I’ve started creating colour swatches that I’ll be able to reference later. This process also allows me to see how these time-worn paints held up over time. I’m excited to finally share this heartfelt commissioned piece I had to keep secret until Christmas! Meet the little animals - a bird, squirrel, turtle and bear cub, each representing a member of the loveliest family.

Crafting this piece and being entrusted with it filled my heart with gratitude. There’s something undeniably heartwarming about the absolute cuteness in each little creature. It was like capturing pure joy on canvas!

A heartfelt thank you to my wonderful clients for entrusting me with the privilege of translating their family’s love into this special piece. Your vision and appreciation made the process truly meaningful.

The studio felt ultra cozy this morning with my Holiday candle from and evergreens outside my window. I think winter is my favourite time to be in the studio with the sunlight bouncing off the snowy scenery making it extra bright inside. Hope you have a beautiful day ahead friends ✨❄️

If you’ve been here a while you might know that my favourite things to collect are vintage or antique art supplies. It felt like Christmas morning when I was gifted this old metal painter’s box filled with supplies to add to my collection. Can’t wait to play with them and create artwork that’s infused with that little bit of history!

Spent some time playing and exploring in the studio this morning before going to work, striving for that delicate dance between work, life, and the canvas. I'm determined to prioritize nurturing my soul and making time for my artistic practice amidst the demands of the day. This week is all about getting for the summer market in Dorchester NB. From packing some of my favourite nostalgic finds, pricing my newest print order, stamping bags for purchases and more. If you don’t have your ticket to the market yet- I really hope you get yourself one and join us for the most incredibly vintage inspired market experience. I can’t wait to see what Miriam has come up with for this year’s Secret Garden theme - I have no doubt that it’ll be breathtaking.

Romanticizing a rainy week means finding happiness and enjoyment in the rain. It’s about appreciating the peaceful sound of raindrops, feeling cozy indoors, and doing things you love. It’s finding beauty in the calm and relaxing feeling that rainy days bring.

Today I’m embracing the moody yet enchanting atmosphere and delving into my creative process as raindrops fall on our metal rooftop. Inside the studio, time seems to stand still and I cherish the tranquility brought on by the rainfall.

On my mind today..🖋️✨

As I clean these river treasures I’ve gathered a few weekends ago during a trip to my hometown, I reflect and can’t help but to wonder how these forgotten pieces of history made their way on the river bank, buried deep in the mud. Where do they come from? Who owned them? What stories of bygone eras would they tell if they could?

The river slowly uncovers these fragments of time every spring and the intense flow of the water current unearths and reveals beauty in its passing. Each piece is a treasure uncovered and these discared relics of the past can find new purpose and meaning.

By breathing new life into them and displaying them in beautiful antique glass jars throughout my house, I connect with the past, bringing its essence into the present and reimagine my relationship with material possessions.

I reflect on the long term consequences of human consumerism and how the ramifications of discarding trash extend beyond the immediate environmental impacts; they endure for generations.

I’m reminded that my choices can shape a more sustainable future and I hope to inspire you to embrace a more conservation-minded approach to consumption by enriching your life with treasures that carry the stories of days gone by.

I look out my living room window and all I see is a wall of blossoms from our immense ancestral apple tree. The impermanence of this momentary phase makes me appreciate it even more. By this weekend the blooms will be gone, the aroma will have faded, the bees will be buzzing somewhere else and I’ll be left with lush green views that hold a different kind of beauty.
