🌺Cyanotype Painting🌺
(Hibiscus. Goldenrod, Poppies, Cosmos, Pollinators, etc)
by Julia Whitney Barnes
"I always love seeing process photos and though I often share these in my stories, I rarely do as posts. Each arrangement that forms the shapes of the cyanotype is documented and then printed plus the actual pressed flowers are all over my studio. Swipe for the after view. I'll most likely work watercolor into the piece[s] unless someone snags it from my studio first."

Hello! And Happy August.
The Cyanotype Store is jumping back into Social Media with an Artist Feature:
We saw these beautiful Cyanotypes and wanted to know more, so we got a little insight from Luca:
Q: What was your specific personal inspiration for the image you created or your general inspiration regarding making art?
“Last February a friend of mine asked me about the cyanotype process;
that gave me the idea of experimenting a bit with that …I thought it could be somehow like going back to my darkroom years.
I guess what I was actually looking for, was the uncomfortable feeling of not knowing “where to go “ …that paralyzing moment when you are staring at the white canvas …
I started with the usual shapes but was not satisfied with the results; being a professional photographer - in fact - proved to be a limitation : I was not able to create an interesting bidimensional image.
I decided to try with the human body; the challenge was to make it somehow tridimensional …to give it depth.
A feminine classical shapes became my choice ; not only for its sensual appeal and the strong meaning of motherhood associated with it, but for the curves that would make it easier - so I thought - to convey that depth I was looking for.
A classical female bust would heighten that iconography without descending into cheesy romanticism or phony eroticism.
I was looking for something not perfect but attractive in its reality , like a roman sculpture more than a greek one.”
Thank you, Luca, for experimenting with our product and sharing your story behind the process.
