After leaving my marriage, I began to realize how disconnected I had become from the empowered aspects of the divine feminine inside myself. It was hard to recognize at first: on the outside, I was a nurturing mother and caregiver to everyone around me. I was empathetic and felt a strong connection to my intuition.
But when I looked inside, I saw that, in many respects, I was filtering those qualities in a very structured, controlling, and masculine way. I wasn't very good at receiving care, especially self-care. I had been giving 1000% of myself to everything in my life in hopes of feeling fulfilled, but instead it left me depleted and, honestly, pretty angry.
So, I began the work of cultivating a relationship with those parts of myself that I knew were there somewhere, but perhaps had ignored or even pushed away.

Working the Transformative Power of the Divine Feminine 🔥 I hope everyone is having a beautiful week so far. I love this time of year; the air begins to change and I can feel fall coming. “Life itself is something awesome and mysterious. We do not know why we are born or when we will die. Most is what we are seeking and struggling for in life is transient and does not answer the ultimate question of our destiny: what, if anything transcends death.
Each of the 10 Ta***ic Wisdom Goddesses represents a particular approach to Self-realization, to knowledge of that within us which transcends time and transient identity.” ~David Frawley

There is a saying that world peace begins at home. I'll venture to take that one step further and say that peace at home begins with being at peace inside yourself. This is a huge endeavor, but an important one if you want your external world to reflect it.
One way to get there is through svādhyāya. In Sanskrit sva = Self and adhyāya = study.

There's a special energetic component that's generated when a group comes together and focuses on high vibrational practices.
Personal intentions for peace, healing and well-being amplify and what's created is larger than any of the single parts. This shifts the vibration not only in our own lives but resonates out into the collective space.

Meeting Yourself Where You Are ✨
The mind naturally fluctuates. It's the nature of the human mind.
Yogic practices lean into easing the fluctuations so that you can connect with clarity, well-being and wholeness, but first you have to acknowledge the state of mind you're in.
This isn't always easy because it's also the nature of the human mind to avoid pain and move toward pleasure. In the Patañjali Yoga Sūtras, he names five kleśas or obstacles that the mind faces. Rāga (attachment) and dvesha (aversion) are two that he describes. Clarity is found mitigating both and embracing equanimity with how things are.
✨One step in doing this is taking a moment or two whenever you can to check in with yourself and notice what's going on inside.
Are there emotions activated?
Is the mind calm or anxious?
Do you have a repetitive dialogue or monologue running through the mind?
✨The mind and body are connected so, the body can also provide clues.
Is there tension or discomfort?
Are you overheated or feeling chilled?
What's the quality of the breath?
✨After asking, just witness. Just be with yourself exactly as you are and try not to judge. Simply sit and honor yourself exactly as you are in that moment.
We're looking forward to exploring Patañjali's Sūtras and also practical ways to work with them this fall.
✨3 more weeks to sign up with the early registration discount. Payment plans available. If you're interested and have questions please DM or click the link for more info!
Summer is FULL ON.
Ok, I know I preach equanimity but I have to admit, I'm not a fan of extremes when it comes to temperature. I tend to lay low and move as little as possible in the heat.
This is great for spiritual practice, but recently I've been noticing a tendency to be magnetically sucked into my computer to get stuff done.
Earlier this week, I realized I hadn't been outside in 3 days and I made the decision to take my bleary screen eyes to the forest.

Happy Solstice!
Many of you who have been in class with me have heard me share that in yogic philosophy the sun is considered an external representation of the light of your soul.
The ancient seers in India paid homage to this idea in the famous Gāyatrī Mantra. We chant this mantra to invite clarity of the mind, so that we may contemplate the brilliance and wisdom of our own inner radiance.

When I decided to go to yoga teacher training I was looking for something. I wasn't sure what, but something needed to change in my life. I had read over and over in books different people's experience with studying yoga and the profound transformational impact it had.
I was lucky enough to find a program that resonated with the depth of what I wanted to learn based in classical teachings. I'm not sure what my expectations were, but it was a mind-blowing experience. It did change my life on many levels and a big part of it was developing a deeper relationship with myself and learning how to honor that.
Today I'd like to share a new program I've been working on for the fall, with my colleague Ashley Flowers, that will give you an opportunity to dive deep into the classical teachings of yoga with the focus on living yoga rather than teaching it.

When you stop and listen it provides an appreciation and greater awareness of the energy within your environment. Listening takes practice, especially when you're with other people. Spending time in social silence can be an enriching experience as the pressure of talking is removed and you can enjoy just "being" with others.
If the idea of social silence makes you uncomfortable you're not alone, but it can be a powerful experience. If you're interested in exploring social silence but a full silent retreat makes you nervous, I've created a mini-retreat to give you a taste.

Stillness is a gift to ourselves that I think we avoid. Maybe we avoid it because we think we don't have time or maybe we avoid it because when we are still sometimes the voices in our head get louder and we may not want to hear what they're saying.
When we are on the go go go, being intentionally still for even one minute brings necessary balance to our system enabling us to get up and go again with a little more awareness.

I started chanting in 2016 during my first yoga teacher training and immediately I was hooked. I didn't know much about the practice at the time, I only knew how it made me feel and that was enough to keep going. Since then I have deepened my studies both in the technical and philosophical aspects of Vedic chanting and the scientific research that has been done around chanting mantra as a way of utilizing the power of sound to heal any aspect of our lives.
Including chanting in your practice:
* calms the nervous system
* focuses the mind
* invites a feeling of connection to yourself, those around you and the larger universal field
* relieves stress & depression
* promotes healing on all levels (physical, emotional, mental, spiritual)

When you're established firmly in the present moment, you begin to feel emotional responses as they are happening. If you can catch them right at the beginning, you can create a little space between you and the emotion so that you don't become the emotion.
Saying "I'm angry", identifies you as the anger. If you re-phrase and say to yourself, "anger is here" or "there is anger around this situation", it takes it down a notch and allows you to acknowledge your feelings while still keeping them at an arms length.

You may not always have control over things that happen, but you can always choose how to feel about those things and how you respond. The question is always there....how will you do it? What choice will you make?
Sometimes a little shift in perspective can make a huge difference. You may not be able to see to the end of things but you can try to zoom out and look down at your current circumstances from a higher view. This can reframe the story you're telling yourself and you may even be able to see opportunities and gifts that you couldn't see down in the thick of it.

You have to believe you are magic.
Within each one of us lies the power to create. We are using it all the time, every day with each choice we make. Often, we get caught up in the flow of what’s going on around us and forget that we have any choices at all. We go on auto pilot. We make the same choices again and again by default because we’ve lost the ability to hear the one voice that can truly guide us. Only by slowing down and getting really quiet can we reconnect and hear what our hearts are saying. Yes, this is challenging. No, you may not want to hear what it’s saying right away. It might be calling for a change that seems impossible. But if you keep listening, it will begin to show you a way.
I kept my heart locked up in a box for many years. It caused me sleeplessness, anxiety, stress beyond belief, headaches, and several other physical and emotional symptoms. Why? Because I wasn’t listening to what I needed. I was listening to what every one needed from me. I thought that as long as everyone around me was happy, I would be happy.
Reiki sessions provided me a safe space to feel again. It was too hard to find time and space in my daily life to do this on my own, so having someone there to hold space for me was essential. It also gave me an accountability partner to stay true to my own self care.
Reiki helped me connect to the magic that was inside me the whole time.
