Dose-Itt
Our companies mission is to create intuitive and simple solutions that facilitate the coffee experience. One of our many passions is coffee.
GOT ITT’s sole purpose is to manufacture distinct products that add value to your existing passions. In fact, Baratza coffee grinders have inspired our first two creations. Baratza makes high quality, user-friendly products designed to make home brewing more enjoyable. Both Peirce and Quinn worked for Baratza at one point. During our time at Baratza and making coffee at home, we began designing po

The Dose-Itt is coming to life! We have finalized the design and sent it off to Taiwan for prototyping and painting. While the prototype is being made, Quinn and I are busy preparing our Kickstarter campaign. We’ll talk more about Kickstarter and our funding goals in the coming weeks. For now, we have a popular internet video to share, that we did not make, bashing the single serve pod problem in a humorous doomsday scenario. Check it out!

This internet article is long, but a good read about the problems that the single use pods have. http://www.theatlantic.com/technology/archive/2015/03/the-abominable-k-cup-coffee-pod-environment-problem/386501/

Chapter 4: WTF- Wait, The Flyers! Quinn's and Pierce's Pre Launch Campaign!
Today is the opening day of the SCAA (the coffee convention), and we are ready! The time has flown by since our last email, there is so much to share. Baratza is graciously sharing their booth with us, and we have our prototype ready for show and tell.
Quinn and I have been busier than we’ve let on. We will be debuting our metal PFH that has been a main focus, however we also have kits assembled that are ready to sell. This kit will give the home DIY’er the resources needed to retrofit the base model grinder with an option only available with more expensive models. Although the show is just starting, we’ve already made our first sale! Yesterday was spent with fellow businessmen hailing from all corners of the globe- Malaysia, Singapore, Scandinavia, Columbia and Brazil. Over the course of the day we grew new relationships and solidified our sales pitch, hence the sale!
I’m working for Baratza in the booth, answering questions and doing my best. As the opportunities arise, I will direct interested customers over to Quinn who is able to represent Got Itt. The grand plan will be that customers expressing interest in our products will be sent to Quinn who will seal the deal. Unfortunately we haven’t enough time to share with you all that we want, it is time to straighten our collars and go through the final check list. Above is a picture, snapped yesterday, of our kit assemblies.
It’s showtime, talk later!

Chapter 3: Moving into new digs! Quinn's and Pierce's Pre Launch Campaign!
Getting a metal prototype milled was a lot easier than we anticipated. With our 3D blueprint in hand, we approached a local machine shop to do the work. Within a week we had a metal prototype demonstrating the exact fit and feel of our final product.
After the excitement of holding and testing the prototype, we didn’t want to throw it into the drawer Quinn and I had been calling our ‘office’. It was obvious that we needed a permanent place of business, rather than squatting in local coffee shops, and squirreling our business paraphernalia into a drawer. The single desk drawer was overflowing with two generations of prototypes, tools, and paperwork.
In need of something larger, but in a similar price range, a nearby childhood playhouse caught our eye. Practically a blank slate, the space definitely needed some sprucing up and attention before we could use it.
Time to get to work. Step one, clean up the cobwebs and paint the walls. Step two, build a desk. Quinn dismantled the bar and shelving unit from his apartment and retrofitted them into a spiffy new desk. Step three, décor. After calling around, we found someone willing to part with a couch for an awesome price- free! The coffee table is a repurposed centennial tool chest, back from the days of turning wrenches on steamboats, and the lamp…an Ikea wonder.
The workspace was well composed. I needed some life in the space, and added my personal touch of a seascape and a few table plants to finish our weekend renovations.
Settled into our new digs, and with a tried and true proto in hand, it is time for us to get back to geeking out over coffee. The biggest coffee group in the US is the Specialty Coffee Association of America (SCAA). Their annual tradeshow will be in downtown Seattle this April- next week!
There is a lot of work leading up to the trade show for us to accomplish, from solidifying our pitch designing brochures to getting haircuts. Next week the two of us are going to hang out with some awesome coffee importers from around the world, We hope to wow them with our charming personalities, and our handsome product.
Wish us luck!

Chapter Two: Hot Off the Printer!
3D printing is a lot more complicated than we thought and takes four main things. Creativity, an engineer, software, and the hardware.
Making espresso is a complicated procedure as well. The process requires fresh coffee, that is tamped into the porta filter. The porta filter is positioned in your espresso machine, then pressurized water extracts your espresso.
Brewing espresso requires grinding into a portable filter (PF) basket. The current accessory offered by Baratza holds the PF under the ground coffee discharge. Unfortunately, as the ground coffee hits the PF, some of it escapes over the edge and can leave some wasted grounds around the unit.
We wanted to create an accessory for the conical burr grinders that not only snugly holds the PF in the grinder, but also funnels the coffee directly into the PF. This would conceptually result in hands free, mess free dosing.
With our idea in mind we telephoned our friend, Bill Crossland. Fortunately for us, Bill is also a renowned mechanical engineer; the perfect guy to turn our creative idea into a 3D rendering. In order to do that, Bill uses a software program, that creates a 3D blueprint with specific dimensions. These drawings are used to communicate our specifications to manufacturers.
The hardware is the cool part. A 3D printer! Becoming a more prevalent household tool, Quinn is lucky to have a friend, Mike Aylesworth, with a printer on hand. A 3D printer could be compared to a computer controlled hot glue gun. This produces a delicate plastic bead that builds upon itself layer by layer. Mike fired up the printer, and the idea stored in our imagination began to grow into reality before our eyes.
This whole experience of designing and 3D printing with Bill and Mike has been an absolute blast. As you can see above, we are elated our creativity has resulted in a working solution to improve our morning routine!
Our accessory is going to complement the brushed metal finish of the iconic Virtuoso, but will fit the Maestro, Maestro Plus, Encore and Preciso as well. The plastic prototype has been most encouraging, but we need to check and prove the fit and feel that our customers will experience. The next step is to have a metal prototype made. Next week we will share our story of working with a local machine shop!
Do you remember Quinn Anderson or Pierce Jens? If not, let us jog your memory with a quick recap.
Four years ago Quinn moved to Taiwan to learn first-hand about the process of manufacturing, from raw materials to finished product. After two years of intense learning, he left to travel Southeast Asia and started his first business, after returning to the US.
While attending college, Pierce has been a key member of operations at Baratza, supporting customers on a technical level and delivering educational product videos. As a past time, he enjoys repairing and modifying anything from gas scooters to stereo equipment.
We have taken the time to write you this email because we Got Itt; that is, we have formed our own company (hence the two T’s in the name) and are eager to share with you our passion in creating innovative solutions!
The two of us share a prowess in, and hankering for, fixing and improving mechanical contraptions. Unfortunately, the majority of the fixes are not glorious and quickly get swept under the rug. However, one night after work, we shared a product idea that couldn’t be swept under the rug. Our extensive experience in the coffee grinder business, listening to customers, told us that there is a need for a particular/specific product. It deserved to be brought to market. And so we will!
Our goal is to make you the first to know about our product as it evolves up to the point of public unveil in April (spoiler alert, it IS a coffee accessory). In fact, each week we will share a neat story summarizing our forward progress. Later this week, we will share our 3D printing experience with photographic evidence! Above, we are hanging out while waiting for the 3D model to be completed.
We promise not to spam you. Hopefully you will be entertained with the tales and story of our journey and if you are so inclined, we'd love any feedback you have along the way for us!
Have a great week!
From Pierce and Quinn
