After 50 years of service, it was announced on this day in 1937 that street car service in Butte would be ending and replaced with buses. The decision was largely based on energy supply. The Anaconda Company claimed that "the substantial amount of power necessary to operate the street car system is now urgently required for the mines of Butte".
