World Mental Health Day: Let's Prioritise Mental Well-being π
Today, October 10th, marks World Mental Health Day - a day dedicated to raising awareness about mental health issues, promoting mental well-being, and advocating for better mental health care worldwide. It's a reminder that mental health is just as important as physical health, and it's time we all join the conversation.
To shed light on the significance of this day, let's take a look at some eye-opening statistics:
1οΈ. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), one in four people globally will experience a mental health issue at some point in their lives.
2. Half of all mental health conditions begin by age 14, and three-quarters by age 24. Early intervention and support are crucial.
3. Stigma and discrimination surrounding mental health issues often prevent people from seeking help. Two-thirds of people with mental health conditions never receive professional treatment.
4. Mental health conditions have a significant economic impact, costing the global economy over $1 trillion per year in lost productivity.
In celebration of World Mental Health Day, we wanted to highlight the importance of self-care and mental well-being within our own team. Our staff members have shared what they are doing to prioritise their mental health, emphasising that taking care of yourself is an ongoing process and deserves your attention every day.
From practicing mindfulness to enjoying nature, taking up hobbies, or simply spending quality time with loved ones, our team demonstrates that there are countless ways to nurture your mental well-being. These personal commitments serve as a reminder that small steps can make a big difference in managing mental health.
Remember, it's okay not to be okay, and seeking help is a sign of strength, not weakness. Let's prioritise mental health today and every day.
π October is Mental Health Month! π
Let's come together to break the stigma surrounding mental health and take positive actions to support ourselves and others. πͺ
π§ Prioritise self-care: Take time for yourself and practice self-compassion. Your mental well-being matters.
π€ Reach out: Check in on friends and family. A simple "How are you?" can make a world of difference.
π’ Raise awareness: Share your mental health journey or resources to inspire and educate. Together, we can make change happen.
π Remember, it's okay not to be okay. Let's create a world where everyone's mental health is valued and supported. π

Today marks the start of NAIDOC Week 2023.
This year's theme, "For Our Elders," pays tribute to the vital role that elders play in Indigenous communities and families. They are the keepers of cultural knowledge, trailblazers, nurturers, advocates, teachers, survivors, leaders, hard workers, and loved ones.
Let us honour and show gratitude to our elders, past and present, for their contributions to our society. A way we can continue to recognise and respect our elders is to recognise their influence and involve them in future decision-making processes for Indigenous people.

Please take a moment to share back your appreciation for this profession in the comments section below.
Today we say thank you to our superstar admin professionals across the Aurora network.
We know a lot of the magic that you do is not always seen. Your every day wins are not always obvious. We recognise and appreciate the effort you put in each and every day to make our patients' experience with Aurora so exceptional.
We see you and we appreciate all that you do.
This yearβs theme for World Day is βA safe and healthy working environment is a fundamental principle and right at workβ. Good work design supports this right by fostering a safe and healthy physical and psychosocial environment for workers - which includes a system of defined rights, responsibilities and duties, and where the highest priority is accorded to the principle of prevention.
Today, we also focus in on the mental health injuries that are occurring in the workplace.
Workplace mental health claims have become a growing issue in Australia. Mental health conditions account for a relatively small but increasing proportion of serious claims, rising from 6.2% of all serious claims in 2014-15 to 9.3% in 2020-21p. In 2020-21, the largest share related to anxiety or stress disorders (36%) or reaction to stressors β other, multiple or not specified (34%).
When thinking about a safe and healthy work environment, mental health is something to consider alongside physical health.
This ANZAC Day we commemorate and recognise those that have and still continue to serve our country.
From our family to yours.
We are so thankful for and acknowledge the dedication and hard work of our doctors - day in and day out. They ensure we deliver expert quality care to our community.
So from all of us at Aurora, thank you!
