Cognitive dissonance is the mindās dirty little trick. š· When weāre young, booze tastes like crap, but we chug it down to stay in the pack. This sets up a war in your headāalcoholās good, alcoholās bad. The mind, body, and soul canāt stand the clash, so you pick a side. Thanks to the Liquid Lie, most of us choose to drink. š„ Once youāre in, your whole system works overtime to block out the ugly truth, keeping you chained to the bottle.
Every single day, without fail, youāll see alcohol dressed up in a shiny, positive light. š» Itās everywhere, selling you a lie. Donāt be fooled by the glitzāknow the truth behind the curtain. š§
At STRIVE we believe in getting to the root cause of why we drink alcohol.
A word or two on relapse.
My mentor, Preston Smiles, always tells me that God doesnāt make a mistake.
If this is true, itās imperative that when we relapse, we ask ourselves, āWhat lesson do I have to learn here?ā
After 19-years on the railway I had become THE RAILWAYMAN. I had convinced myself that the only thing I knew how to do was to run a railway.
Then at 35, I became alcohol-free-as-f**k (AFAF).
The clouds parted, and a fork of lightning came down from the universe and hit me hard.
I felt the fear so acutely I thought it would split me down the middle.
But unencumbered by the poison, I felt the fear and did it anyway.
I quit the railway and decided to make my money through poker.
I wrote to five poker magazine editors and asked if I could write for them.
One said yes.
I had never written anything in my life.
This photo is one my first wife took, and the magazine used it for my first centre spread called āFrom The Valleys to Vegas.ā
From a RAILWAYMEN to a WRITER.
What am I today?
I donāt know.
But I know this.
I am not my fu***ng job!
And neither are you!
Please send this to someone who needs to hear it.
If alcohol was cooked up today, theyād never let it see the light of day. š· A substance that poisons, destroys, and killsāthereās no way itād be legal. But here we are, drowning in the stuff, pretending itās normal. Maybe itās time we stopped pretending.
People cling to the idea that drinking in moderation is somehow better than not drinking at all. Itās not just the beliefāitās the slow bleed, the death by a thousand cuts, that The Liquid Lie uses to keep you hooked. So, when the World Health Organisation (WHO) says in January 2023 that no amount of alcohol is good for you, take it as a cold, hard fact. Time to wake up.
Iām not sure how long I had been AFAF in this photo.
It was my wedding anniversary, and my wife bought a bottle of Rose. I decided to help her drink it because I feared she would polish off the whole bottle and some, which would spoil the night.
It didnāt work.
We ended up having a blinding row that night.
Iām posting it for all of the AFAF people whose partners donāt come along for the ride. Itās tough when this happens, and it can lead to relapse as the person who is AFAF deals with the changes in their primary relationships. Letās not forget how difficult it is for the drinker when their partner quits. Of course, the one familiar dynamic is the alcohol.

Words are loaded dice. They build the world you live in. What if we believed people give a damn? Thatās a hell of a shift in the game
New book series. I love diving into the world of fantasy and sci-fi. What fiction books do you love?
You know you do
Itās ok to change your mind.
A trigger for me is when I have grown, developed, evolved, matured, aged or even learned from past mistakes and tested, tweaked and polished my attitude worldviews, beliefs, paradigms, and someone says, āThatās not what you said the last time,ā during a fight.
Yup, I lose my s**t.
Learning not to lose my s**t is important, but itās not the point of this note.
The point of this note is to give you permission to be different, to change, to reshape your thoughts and opinions, and you donāt owe anyone an explanation.
Much love and STRIVE on!

I was lost.
I had scheduled 90-minutes to create an incredible free gift for the people who fall into my orbit.
But I didnāt know what to do.
And I had scheduled 90-minutes for this s**t.
So, I started berating myself for being clueless.
Thenā¦
I gave myself some love, and permission to spend the rest of that 90-minute slot thinking about the problem.
And guess what?
An answer emerged.
But it wasnāt easy, because parts of my psyche thought I was slacking.

We become alcohol reliant because of the Liquid Lie.
The Liquid Lie is an invisible, violent and dominant belief system that indoctrinates you to drink alcohol from birth.
Itās violent because it kills 3.3m people per year, itās dominant because more than 50% of the worldās population drinks it, and itās invisible because despite this stats people think itās the greatest substance on earth.
An aspect of The Liquid Lie is absurdity. We have to make the drinking of alcohol and the damage is does so absurd that we forget the pain and suffering it causes.
Here is an example from Vauxhall Underground. We create posters and stick them up around staircases because accident reports show such a high level of slip, trip and fall incidents attributed to alcohol.
But we sell it and advertise it like itās as natural to us as drinking water.
If you feel that your relationship with alcohol has become unhealthy and you would like some help figuring that out, reach out to me on WhatsApp on +447537896829.
Much love & STRIVE on!
