17. november gir vi ut vår årlige julesingel. Den utvalgte artisten i år er amerikanske Margo Guryan (1937-2021).

På A-siden finner vi «I Don’t Intend to Spend Christmas Without You», i Guryans egen demoversjon. B-siden heter «Sunday Morning» og ble først utgitt på albumet «Take A Picture» i 1968. Begge sporene er skrevet av Guryan, som primært var låtskriver fremfor utøvende artist.

«I Don't Intend to Spend Christmas Without You» har blitt spilt inn av flere artister. Den mest berømte versjonen er av franske Claudine Longet (i Norge mest kjent for sin rolle i Peter Sellers-klassikeren «Høyt skum i Hollywood»). Hennes versjon nådde en 30. plass på den amerikanske julehitlisten i 1967. Saint Etienne har også gjort sin versjon av denne låten.

«Sunday Morning» ble først spilt inn av gruppen Spanky and Our Gang. Det finnes en del skildringer av søndagsmorgener i popmusikken, men neppe noen mer innbydende enn Guryans sang om den syvende dagen i uken.

Guryan er i den kategorien med kunstnere som blir oppdaget sent. Det nærmest perfekte albumet «Take A Picture» var det eneste hun ga ut. Først på 1990-tallet fikk albumet oppmerksomheten det fortjente.
