Typical, you wait all this time, and just when you least expect it, another Burley and Field sneaky peaky arrives.

31/08/2023

Well that's that then. The end of Summer apparently,  to be honest we've been so busy on a massive (for us) local project thats it's flown by and our updates on here have been erratic at best (soz).

Anyhoo, as friends and Old Town regulars will know today was our last day in our little shop at Lombard Street. Moving on was always part of our bigger plan (we need a bigger studio space for starters) but we cannot deny that the current economic climate / rent rises etc haven't expedited our decision.

But don't panic! We're still around to take on commissions and transform pieces in our statement Burley and Field stylee.  And we'll be online, just no physical shop for the time being.

So, stay tuned more to come, including more news on that local project mentioned earlier.

Ooh, I say, information overload!

Cheers - Craig n Rich x

Apologies from us here at Burley and Field.

We've havent forgotten you, dear followers. I've just been so busy. In fact, Bernice, our new piece, got so impatient that she's taken her own selfies for us to share with you.

Bernice, born in the 70s but given an 80s glow up. All handpainted by us in this hot pink, then time for some new seat padding and recovered in this vintage 80s print fabric.

Bernice is barely recognisable from when we first met and we're pleased to report that she is absolutely chuffed with her show-stopping new look, which between us is a relief as you definitely don't want to get on the wrong side of this one!

Say hello to Bianca.

Little 80s Art Deco revival side table, now all pretty in pink. Bianca loves their new look and is over the moon to have been given a Burley and Field boost.

A little on the plain side when we first met, it wasn't long before the paint came out in this sumptuous pink hue. And don't even mention our signature decoupage flourish up top. I mean zebra print, leafy loveliness, what's not to love?

Perfect size to rest ones Malibu & pineapple after a hard day about town (or indeed display ones spider plant).

So here's she is. Maxines in town and creating quite a stir.

Vintage modernist tesselated stone table all handpainted by us here at Burley and Field.

We're in LOVE with this colour, hot - right?

When Maxine first came to stay with us she needed quite a bit of TLC,  we spent ages consolidating the surface and prepping for this fabulous hue.

Maxine, fun loving, modern yet vintage, a complete contradiction and she knows it.

Hey, have you seen the great write-up on Katie in the recent edition of ?

Did you know that not only does Katie sell off the rack designs but also has an ever-growing vintage remnant collection that she can transform into the one-off rug of your dreams. There are samples of carpet for you to select from, then choose the size, shape & binding - Katie will do the rest.

Bear in mind, though, that as this is vintage stock, there are limited quantities and size options available, so it's definitely a snooze you lose situation.

Today's been a day mostly concentrated on a commission of the most divine Art Deco dressing table.

Just look at these cute little wooden handles that I've had to remove all in prep for their restyle.

Our client has chosen this rich blue hue and don't be alarmed about the peacock wallpaper, that's here simply to line the drawers.

It'll be a while until this one's is finished so if you're interested hang tight and stay tuned.

Cheers

Well well well, here we are again. Vintage bed set -  part two.

Rather high end, looks like the trio was originally made to order for a customer by the name of 'Kaplin' - funny the things you uncover when prepping a piece naked!

Anyhoo, three drawer dressing table now all reloved & restyled by us boys here at Burley and Field. Our design continues on from the little bedsides in my previous post and once makes this a statement set of three and no mistake.

Rather elegant in proportions, now feeling all fancy in their new threads and ready to start loving life again ❤️.

Photos from Burley and Field's post 01/03/2023

Here we go then, have a look at our latest commission. Vintage three piece bed set all completely restyled by us here at Burley and Field.

Wanting a luxe new look and to be rid of the chipped & flaky white painted finish our client referenced a blue and gold design we did quite a while back. Well Blue wasn't quite right in this instance and after a few testers this beatutiful Farrow & Ball hue was chosen. We were then pretty much given free reign with the remainder of the brief being 'a bit of gold and some of those lovely leaves that you do......'

After plenty of prep, sanding and a couple of small repairs later we could start adding the colour. Then rather than gold-leafing all of the beading detail we decided to keep it to a minimum, allowing for a more contemporary look. As requested and in our signature style we've added some gold leafy loveliness decoupage as a statement flourish. Finally, we buffed up the original brass hardware and et voila!

Hang on a minute you cry, this post doesn't show a three-piece set. Yes you are quite correct, just the pair of besides here, so stay tuned for part two and whatever that third piece could be........

Well another day with the shop closed due to illness (soz).

So during this unfortunate hiatus what else can I do but introduce you to Derek.

Lovely little mid-century four drawer chest completely refinished by us here at Burley and Field.

I love these little chests by Lebus, so many of them get painted over etc. But when there's wood grain like this my personal preference is to allow a piece like this to speak for itself and shine in its pretty much original form.

Derek has been completely stripped back, sanded and refinished, yes we've added a small amount of black as an accent and for a little contemporary touch.

Derek loves his new look & can't wait to hit the dance floor over the festive period and is actually on the market for a hot date - any suggestions?

Well what a stunner we have here today.

Another commission piece safely delivered to its home just down the road in Broadstairs.

Regular followers will know that we did something very similar to this a couple of years back which our lovely client spotted on the tinterweb and then commissioned her very own version.

1980s Stag chest totally restyled by us here at Burley and Field in this amazing oriental print. Oozing glamour and Hollywood Regency vibes this one's been totally transformed into a real statement piece.

We absolutely love this print and there's only a limited quantity remaining, 'limited' you ask why yes - unfortunately its been out of production for many years now.

So if you have an oriental obsession and would love us to do something similar for you then get in touch sooner rather than later - When it's gone, it's gone!

26/10/2022

Ooh what this all about then.

Well today's been a day of final touches, here are some damselfly handles for a commission that we've been working on.

Now you know us, generally we like to keep the original k***s/handles/legs on a piece but in this instance these beauties were chosen to replace rather non-descript pine k***s so who are we to argue. We felt, however, that they were a little too bright in their brassy newness so are adding a wash of aged patina to bring them down just a bit.

The brief for this commission was specific in a non-specific kinda way (lol) - anyhoo, it's definitely a one off statement piece so stay tuned to see where these little handles ended up.

Say hello to Denise, beautifully refurbished by us here at Burley and Field.

Born in 1959 Denise came to us looking for urgent assistance - covered in awful marks and flaking varnish so a complete overhaul was required.

Therefore we stepped in and have totally removed that old damaged finish and banished those pesky ring marks.

She's so gorgeous we couldn't bear to do anything other than let her natural wood finish shine, the only paint we added is a small amount of soft black as an accent to give a luxe contemporary edge. Original hardware lightly buffed and protected with microcrystalline wax.

Not so much a restyle, more a rescue of a divine mid-century piece. And how do I know Denise was born in 59' you ask. Well there's a dated makers sticker on the back of her mirror which I did photograph but then managed to 'misplace' those snaps along with all the before pics I took, blither!

Denise - Likes: a light dusting, a light waxing, cheesy wotsits

NOTE - This one is already reserved for purchase but if you're looking for something similar or have one of your own that needs a refurb then give us a shout 🤓

Well a new month, a new week and a new commission piece to show you all.

Remember Clarence? Well he's certainly turned over a new leaf since his stay with us here at Burley and Field.

He was snapped up in his naked state from our little shop a while back. Then the brief from our client was to retain as much original character possible and create a fabulous interior that would not detract from the collection of pottery and glassware that would be displayed. A 'faded glamour' luxe look that includes bronze & gold enamel, gold metal leaf and a flourish of decopauge taken from an elegant William Morris print.

We kept our pattern design minimal yet placed in a way to give movement and depth without being too showy. As you can see to the right is pattern free (as this is where our clients pottery will go) whereas the glass objects are to be displayed on the left - makes sense right?

Clarences external good looks have also been completely refinished, keeping all of his charming character including bruses from his past life. Finally we added enough gold leaf (check those ball & claw feet) to give just the right amount of restrained wow factor.

And there you have it - Clarence all spruced up, perfectly imperfect and now happily living in a beatutiful period home down the road in Sandwich. Boom 💥 💥 💥

He my loves, how are you all?

So I know what you're thinking its a gold chair, big deal (lolz).

Well this little mid-century piece was a commission, I've 'mislaid' the before pics but trust me it wasn't very pretty. It had already been painted with white gloss paint which was yellowing and the finish was full of runs and drips.......

What I thought was an easy enough job wasn't,  I can assure you.

Loads of scrubbing, cleaning and sanding back those clumps of old paint. Then primer followed by super thin layers of gold enamel paint in two shades to build up this muted metallic finish.

The leg base was removed, sanded, treated for rust then painted black, and I even gave it some gold 'socks'.

An interesting project, turned out alright in the end, my photos don't do its smart new look justice!

Anyhoo stay tuned, mid-century dressing table on the way along with another fabulous commission piece.

Claytons here but he's disappointed at missing both Soul Festival and Pride.

Never mind Clayton, you're at Burley and Field now and it's your turn to shine. Actually to be honest it was touch and go whether he would even allow us to do this post.

We reminded him that despite looking a bit tired there's still a handsome devil lurking beneath, I mean just look at that brass hardware........phew.

Clayton has come direct from the Burley and Field vaults where he's been playing Sudoku for some time. We originally hooked up at one of our favourite haunts , thanks Stella!

Finally available in-store and for commission - come design with us and create a one off statement piece.

Look who's all dressed up with somewhere to go. Why its Lucille all fresh from the Burley and Field studio.

This piece (in its naked state) was snapped up from us within its first few days of release.

The brief for Lucilles new threads was 'contemporary gothic' along with a touch of blue. So we created some designs including blue hues and luxe wallpaper prints and the client plumped for this 'Cooks Blue' & 'Extinct' wallpaper.

We've refinished the walnut veneer, in fact reconditioned the wood all over (inside and out) and added some extra Burley and Field flourishes, after all who doesn't love a bit of gold leaf!

The client asked to keep the original aged mirrors up top and we added some mirror backplates to the back of the bottom cupboard - buffed the original hardware, added some fancy tassels and she's ready to roll.

Lucilles already in her new home over in Herne Bay, in fact between us she's living in her new owners 'party room'........say no more!

Oh my goodness what a fabulous few days I've had and now today the sun is shining and there's good vibes all around.

Talking of good vibes (and following on from our little sneaky peek a few days ago) let me share with you our latest commission piece.

An unusual one for us as the request was for a traditional style tv stand. So after discussions with our client we sourced this vintage looking (although it's not THAT old) piece.

Our client asked us to work our magic and turn what was a rather underwhelming unit into something much more glamorous with a luxe deco feel.

And heres the result. Totally repainted in a base coat of antique cream, then some gold enamel glaze applied to give a faded glamour burnished effect.

We've also used this beautiful deco print on the sides and drawer recesses. Mirror has also been added to the back of the cubby-holes (see if you can spot my 'where's Wally moment in the pics). As you will know we usually retain a pieces original handles etc but on this occasion we suggested these replacements which really work.

Lastly, a little decoupage flourish to the top, a made to measure safety glass topper and this one's ready to roll. Well in fact its already been delivered to our client - another happy customer,  cheers and enjoy your Sunday 🤓🥸

Well what else could we bring you to kick off a fantastically fabulous & frivolous weekend.

Why, meet Stella.

Now I can't lie, this one's tested my patience and no mistake, DIVA doesn't even cover it. But just look at her now.

Amazing vintage cocktail cabinet, check that illumination. She arrived at our shop worse for wear, damaged and with an air of distain. This was a commission piece and our client wanted a sympathetic make over. Bring back those fabulous wood veneers add a little colour - just a touch of gold as some luxe accents in all the right places.

This sumptuous hue was chosen which technically is a blue but in the right light gives off peacock green vibes. Lifting veneer and damage sorted. Complete refurb, broken mirror replaced and she's ready to hit the spotlight once more.

Stella - trust me you know when she's arrived

Likes: fun & frivolity, after-parties, more fun....
Dislikes: parameters, early nights, social-distancing.

Oh and thanks to Mike for the rewire.

Burley and Field - open today till party-time.....

Why hello there, how's tricks?

Finally got a minute to show you our latest commission piece.

Lovely midi size four drawer unit - when it came to us it was looking a bit beige and dare I say boring. The top was marked, coffee cup rings, the usual etc ..........

Anyway, our gentleman caller loved our pervious pieces (Laverne and Louie) so asked for something along that vein.

We had a chat and our gent wanted the carved detail on the drawers to be obscured as the look he was after was a mural front.

So we discussed colours and gave some suggestions for the mural artwork and here's the result.

Base coat of grey suede glaze, mid coat of bronze glaze then top coat of textured gold enamel glaze. As you can see the drawers have been totally transformed, carvings gone and this sepia style vintage print applied.

We then refinished the wooden top, adding a couple of coasts of tint in order to darken the colour.

Original handles given a sympathetic buffing and we're ready to roll.

Meet Laurence - estranged Great Uncle of Louie & Laverne.

As usual my pictures dont do this one justice, it's really beatutiful and has a depth of colour that changes depending on the light - anyhoo happy Thursday 🥸

Photos from Burley and Field's post 26/10/2022

Well well well, look what we have here.

Vintage gin cabinet, all finished in fine new threads and given that Burley and Field special touch.

This one is a commission and has gone off to live in a sumptuous villa style period home in Canterbury.

Our client came to us wanting something, bold and decidedly glamorous for their dining room. During the initial consultation we agreed that our starting point would be the central back panel and then build the design from there. Discussion followed and it became clear that peacocks were a favourite with an ever so slight nod to chinoiserie.

We found this peacock back panel print which we had digitally enhanced to make the colours punchier, the client was then able to chose from a narrowed down selection of blues that we suggested to them. We further suggested a gold leaf interior, with a few external gold highlights to add to the luxe feel and give some depth.

Anyhoo, I'm sure you get the gist - this is then end result after a lot of fiddly work (pesky back panel and mirror combo) and the addition of 'new' (well reclaimed) Queen Anne legs after the originals had been hacked short in a previous life!

We really do hope you like - stay tuned as there are more one-off pieces on the way 🤓.

Photos from Burley and Field's post 08/04/2022

Oooh I'm a day late with this post, my naughty account had some 'gremlins' and wasn't letting me update you all!

Anyhoo, yesterday was a day of Burley and Field final touches, some hardware buffing, scalpel cut edging applique and we're almost ready to rock and roll.

This one's another beauty so if you like fancy feathered birds (huh?) And a statement blue & gold combination then stay tuned!

Oh and happy Friday 😊
