Our team on the WGTP Southern Portal Inbound have been busy underground in the cut & cover. Structural works were completed in preparation for the breakthrough of the largest TBM in the southern hemisphere (15.6m diameter). This involved completion of the detailed structural base slab, concrete plinths, retaining walls and the glass fibre reinforced sill beam.
Following the TBM breakthrough, work has now recommenced on the build out of the Southern Portal cut & cover works. This scope involves FRP (Form, Reo, Pour) construction of base slabs (5,000m3 of concrete and 1,250 tonnes of reinforcement), in-situ walls (over 5,600m2 of formwork and 1,600t of reinforcement), in-situ concrete overhead struts, corbels, overhead smoke duct slabs, drainage install and construction of the OHVR (Overhead Vehicle Ramp).

A major component of the new Metro Tunnel project involves the build out of the CBD South Precinct. Our team at Flinders St. has been busy constructing the structure of Shaft A and B, which extends from 40 meters below ground level up to the surface. Due to the site constraints in Melbourne CBD, a significant amount of detailed engineering & planning was necessary to manage logistics and meet the project program.

Our team in Laverton North has been prefabricating engineered formwork systems, which are delivered to the CBD site precisely when needed. They are lifted directly from the semi deliveries and lowered into the shaft where they are placed straight into the set-out position. This approach is something we have been implementing on all sites. It enhances safety (reduced working at heights), enables an accelerated program, and saves crucial space onsite.

The area of shaft A & B extends over 2,500m2 and extends over 5 levels. The works consist of base slabs, 9m high columns & walls, 10m high suspended structural slabs, arches and plunge column infills. Work is progressing nicely ahead of program with shaft B almost complete and work ongoing in shaft A - level B2 suspended.

Following the successful completion of early works on the North East Link Project, we have recently been awarded a contract on the main works package of the North East Link Tunnels.
We are currently completing the capping beam and retaining walls for the box that will launch the massive TBM next year on the Watsonia site.
Our works scope consists of pile breaking, steel fixing, form and pour, for approximately 900m of retaining wall ranging from 1.2m to 5m in height.

Following the completion of a number of successful contracts on Melbourne’s Metro Tunnel, we have recently been awarded a major package on Melbourne’s West Gate Tunnel. This package involves construction of the tunnels Sothern Portal (Inbound) where vehicles will transition from above ground to below ground and enter the tunnel heading towards the city.
