Our coach, Rickie, was part of the GB u20 coaching staff in Kosovo for the u20 European Championships as part of the IHF development programme to give more young coaches exposure to elite internatuonal handball. He said he had an amazing time and learnt a lot to bring back to Sheffield and the England academy teams. Here are the boys after their win against Bulgaria! Well played boys, now onto the IHF trophy in a few months!

No junior training tonight as our coach is away and we have no-one to cover. It is back on next Tuesday!

Photos from Sheffield Handball CLUB's post 21/06/2024

No training tonight as our seniors have stopped for the end of the season after last weekend's Newcastle tournament. Our 2nd team played well against some strong and experienced teams and gained a lot of valuable experience. We will be entering 2 teams into the league next season- we are looking for new players, both experienced and beginner. We'll done to 3 of our women's team players, Ausra, Michaela and Teo who joined up with York to win the women's competition.

Pre season training starts in the middle of July. If you're interested in playing then send us a message to get involved!

Juniors are training as usual until the end of the school term!

06/06/2024

We had our first of 3 open taster sessions last Friday with a lot of new faces! Come and join us this Friday or next week at All Saints Sports Centre from 8-9.30pm. Send us a message if you're interested!

Play offs update

Unfortunately Sheffield Handball CLUB didn't quite get through the play offs, losing out to Loughborough and Trafford in two intense and tight games.

We went toe to toe with Loughborough with both teams scoring multiple breakthroughs and fast breaks. In the end, Loughborough capitalised on some individual mistakes to end the game with a 5 goal lead. It was a difficult end to a game that we believe we could have won if not for some poor individual decision making and missed shots we would normally have scored.

In the final game, we played Trafford at home who were desperate to maintain their Premier league status. It was an amazing spectacle for the fans who filled the stands with both teams being equally as physical and going at each other. Again we went toe to toe and were 2 goals up by half time. The boys defended amazingly against more experienced opposition and completely shut them out for large periods. Trafford managed to get back into the game in the last 10 minutes as we struggled to finish the game off, missing several 7m penalties. The Trafford keeper made multiple close range saves from line, wings and breakthroughs that ultimately meant Trafford won the game by 1 goal.

Although we are disappointed with the results, we are proud of what we have achieved over the course of the season, from the lows of a 4 game winless streak whilst going through an injury crisis to the highs of winning games in the last minute and winning 8 from 9 to make the play offs.

The team have come along way, making incredible progress as a team and as individuals. We have one tournament left in a few weeks to finish the season and then we regroup, plan ahead and go again next season. We plan on having two men's teams in the league as we are retaining the majority of our current players.

Our Juniors have been turning up in force, with the u15 boys playing in their first ever tournament despite most still being u13. We also have a lot of players either in, or trialling for the England regional academies.

If you are interested in playing, or are a student coming to Sheffield next academic year then send us a message!

29/05/2024

It was a pleasure having the media team join us at training to speak to Ben about his experiences of mental health. It's such a good video that highlights the importance of mental health and how handball can help! Let us know of you want to join our handball family!

What an amazing opportunity for the GB team. It clearly shows the hard work going on behind the scenes as well as the development on the court. Go and give it everything girls!

🇬🇧 Great Britain replace Cameroon in the Women's Olympic Qualification Tournament #1 ❕ As Cameroon did not comply with the documentation required for the visa to travel to Hungary, and with no African team being able to confirm their participation, a wild card was awarded for the Tournament, following the Regulations for IHF Competitions. The IHF Executive Committee decided to award the spot to Great Britain, with no further changes to the match schedule.

We were looking forward to seeing the hard work our young athletes have put into training out into practice, but we will just need to wait a little longer. Now we regroup and train hard ready for the next round!
