We are a mother and daughter led, Zapotec, small family business 🤎 based in Orange County (Tongva Land). We started this business to help our family members back home; such as my mother’s sisters, brothers, cousins, and close friends. As a family, we work to help our community and to preserve our autonomy as a Zapotec led business. Everyday we fight to protect what is ours, our art, our culture. We are lucky to be working with our family because we provide them more than fair wages and the opportunity to explore their artistic imagination. It’s an honor to work alongside mi familia. They are the pillar to this magical business.
After more than an year running our business, we are now lucky to have a little space in where I once grew up, Santa Ana, California. It amazes me how many people are touched by our work, and how many people who are Latinos/Hispanics didn’t know about this form of art, and it’s our privilege to introduce them what are people do. It’s been a journey working through social media, now we are happy to say we finally have a physical space where our family’s pieces can be displayed! It’s an accomplishment!
Gracias mi familia, mi gente, mis hermanxs! We hope some of you will be able to visit our little shop soon that is open from Monday to Friday! You may find store hours on page! Many thanks ❤️ Here is a picture of me and my mama proudly wearing a huipil. Mamá is wearing a huipil from Mitla and I’m wearing a huipil from Guerrero by .artesanal ❤️ Siempre portando con orgullo nuestras raíces!
Hello friends! Welcome to our first business post on Facebook! We’d like to formally present ourselves. We are the Gutierrez family and friends, a third generation of Zapotec weavers from Teotitlan Del Valle, Oaxaca. We are proud to share with you the work of our people. We weave art and history on our beautiful rugs and tapestries with designs that tell the stories of our ancestors. Each of our rugs is like a book that foretells the story of our people, our roots, the cosmos, the creation of earth. Our inspirations for our work are the mountains, stars, rivers, animals, and Zapotec gods. Through weaving we are able to preserver our memories.
As a family owned Zapotec business, our mission is to provide full transparency of our work and give full recognition to each artist. We believe in giving fair wages to our friends and family who work hard behind each rug. Please, join us on this Zapotec journey where you’ll get to meet the artists behind each work and admire the beautiful stories on our rugs.
