Idyll Stitches by Julia
I love to design and make fabric things! Purses, totes, wallets, bookmarks, coasters, clothing... I thought... I can do better. Thanks for stopping by!

My name is Julia, and I am a stay at home Mom of two gorgeous little girls who seem to think I can create anything (which makes me think I need to try)! My seamstress Grandmother instilled a love of sewing and pattern design in me at a young age, by helping me to create stylish clothing for my Barbies and baby dolls using her leftover scraps. That love has carried into adulthood, and I still love
This month has been crazy busy! March is full of birthdays and celebrations for our family, and we are topping it off with a special trip for me and my Free Radical to a musical theater competition for their advanced drama group. This costume piece isn't for FR, but for a classmate who needed it ASAP - about a week from printing the pdf pattern to delivering the finished piece.
On a personal note, this is my first year as a theater mom, and it's bringing back all the nostalgia for me. Drama was the first place I felt like I had found My People, and the only part of childhood and adolescence I would repeat if I had the chance. It's delightful to be going through it now with my kiddo, as Free Radical finds their own people. π₯°π
Little Miss loves unicorns and fabric shopping π
She likes to scour the shelves at Joanns and choose fabrics, then commission me to make things for her. Today's outfit: a rainbow unicorn dress.
I had the awesome privilege last week of making this GORGEOUS hooded robe, as part of a Wakanda Forever costume for the Black Joy Parade in Oakland. Monet Erby looks so regal in her full dress πππ
I've been really enjoying the fluffy yarns this fall. This is going to be a gorgeous emerald-green Santa hat, stitched from Bernat Velvet yarn. It feels so luxurious ππππ π€Άπ
I just finished this beret and super cute arm warmers set (they should have been done yesterday, but I had to make an emergency trip to the yarn store to finish them). These are adult or teen sized.
Beret & Arm Warmers set - $45
I'm willing to separate these babies (Beret - $30, Arm Warmers - $20), but they would really prefer to stay together. They might be lonely. π

Taking stock of what I have before I start anything new. It's a brand new month, we are experiencing our first significant rainfall for the season, and I am feeling good! βππ§΅π§Άπ₯°
Mushie bookmarks, by request! These two are already spoken for, but I've got a few more scraps of this fabric if anyone else wants to claim it ππ
I clearly need a better way to display larger items, for those times when I can't get my lovely Free Radical to model for me. π₯°
Soft and comfy, perfect for the cooler weather we are starting to get. This scarf and hat are adult sized.
$40 for the set
This scarf finished beautifully with a simple picot trim π Should I make a hat to match?
I just learned how to do a simple picot edging stitch. It's like getting a new toy. Everything is getting a picot edge now. π
It isn't a sewing project, but this week I'm scrambling to finish Halloween costumes before the kids' Fall Carnival this weekend! Who can guess the Free Radical's costume from this photo?
Adult size! Soft and smushy, "Cozy Heathered" blanket yarn in black. I don't know if it will get cold enough for this hat in California, as we are sweating through a 90+ degree October, but at least you'll look adorable while you sweat...
Edit to add: whoops! I forgot to price it! $25 for the coziest, cutest hat ever.
I'm working on the Pineapple Peacock Shawl pattern by Amy Gunderson (published by Universal Yarn ). Not only is the pattern beautifully delicate and lacey, this yarn is SO SOFT. It may or may not end up in my shop... the Free Radical already has her eye on it π€£π₯°
More berets! Cream and deep red, both adult size.
$30 each β€
As promised, a kitty hat in my inventory! This is made from Bernat Blanket yarn, so it is chunky and plush and very soft.
Child size purple kitty-ear hat - $25
If you've been following me for long, you probably know that I've been sewing since my grandmother taught me as a child. Crochet is fairly new to me, though. I taught myself a few years ago, and only recently learned about "blocking." Blocking is a method of shaping your finished crochet by getting it wet, and then holding its shape while it dries. This kitty hat is a great example of how blocking can really polish a project!
This hat is for Little Miss, but it's a favorite pattern so it will probably show up in my inventory soon ππ»
It isn't quite an autumnal color, but I love handling this yarn. 10% alpaca wool makes this cozy and soft β€
Fall colors beret, to match the gorgeous scarf I posted yesterday, both modeled by my lovely Free Radical. These are adult size, but will obviously fit small adults or teens just fine.
Beret - $30
Just in honor of the smell of fresh rainfall today, if you want the scarf & hat set I'll sell them together for $48 π₯°πππ§
Continuing my fall colors trend, as we have some actual fall weather this weekend!
$30
I'm doing my very best to summon autumn. I've got my blackberry sage tea, fall colors to crochet, and a cozy blanket over my legs. Now I just need chilly evenings and maybe a little rain πππ§ππ§‘
This was a super fun pattern to make, I hope you are as tickled by it as I am!
Impish Fall Hat - $25
Happy Sunday! I'm really enjoying the slightly cooler weather we are finally having, after the triple-digit record-breaking heat of last week. What are you doing to celebrate?
I can't stop admiring this adorable hat. Is it candy corn, or pumpkin? Who knows, but it's definitely cute. This one is sized for a toddler or small child.
$20
Brand new pattern from Ellie & Mac ! This absolutely adorable little purse backpack has a hidden Halloween theme lining, with a microsuede (vegan suede) outer shell and adjustable shoulder straps.
$42.83 (just for Re Creations π who hates even numbers)
This is going to make a much cuter hat ππ
It's a scarf! It doesn't look like a candy corn, but I like it anyway π₯°
$30
Fun and colorful triangle scarf
Fall Colors Striped Scarf $30
This was going to be a hat, but I didn't like the way the striping was coming out π€¦ββοΈ
All is not lost! It's going to be a light scarf instead, and I suspect it's going to look an awful lot like a candy corn.
Testing out a new pattern today! This will be a small backpack-style purse with a Halloweeny lining, to stick with my fall theme πππ»ππ
