The culture is celebrating 50 years of Hip Hop and there's a whole wackload of legendary artists that have inspired US to create over the years.
There's only a few that I have been lucky enough to meet or chat with but we wouldn't be who we are without all of their music. My list of inspirations could go on forever, from underrated local dudes to Academy Award winners.
Name one of YOUR favourite Hip Hop artists that you feel changed the game?
REBOOT WARS
Track twelve "LOVE IS THE REAL PAIN"
(DOOMSDAY CARTEL REMIX)
This is the last remix that was made for the Reboot Wars project. It's a bit convoluted, but it is actually a rework of the ORIGINAL beat that was made for the song "Love is the Real Pain" from the GQ and King Dylan album - the final version you hear on the Afterlife album was ACTUALLY a remix, although it's not labeled as such. The "original" beat version was later released on a "I Heart Alberta Rap" compilation in 2007 but without Buttnz verse (because at that point he quit the group so we scrapped it) and on top of that is still quite different than this version you hear now, as the only similarity is the sample that was used and it's not even used in the same way. So this is the official DOOMSDAY CARTEL Remix of this song as it's the only song that actually features ALL 5 members each kicking full 16-bar verses. Big facts, boyeeeee.
We wrote this song out of frustration after a string of sh*tty shows we tried to organize or be a part of, but felt like we were constantly getting the short end of the stick, being forced to play along with amateur hour from the local rap scene. How hard is it to show up on time for a show you're playing at? How hard is it to show decency for your fellow performers? Pretty fu***ng hard apparently. Love for the art is the true struggle. Love is the real pain.
Anyway, I've digressed long enough. Thanks for reading these, and we hope you enjoyed the album!

Track 11 "INSPIRE"
Another older track from around 2004 that didn't make the cut for the debut album. The new 2023 version required a complete beat remake due to corrupted source files. Although it's generally quite true and familiar to the original, the new bass, strings and production elements, along with a brand new melody in the chorus lyrics, create a familiar but different vibe from the OG. The rap verses are still original recordings from 2004, minus one single line that was SUPER cringe that was re-recorded to save embarassment.
But who cares, right?
King Dylan does... Which is also why the new chorus went through a number of attempted rewrites, only to land back on the first re-record... which has the same words as the 2004 version, just sang differently.
I can't remember too much about the creation of this song, although MC Mossberg did re-record his verse like a week or two later (back in 2004) to give a stronger performance. The irony of this song is that it didn't "inspire" us enough to include it on our debut, but maybe we were going for a specific theme at the time... Which wasn't this. Or maybe it was that one cringey line that prevented it from moving forward. Yeah, that's it.
Check the song out for yourself!
REBOOT WARS - Track 10
"TEN WORDS" (REMIX BY SoulamezZ)
One of the more creative and yet "puzzling" tracks by The D.C. Show, originally written in 2004 and then released on "Smacked by Popular Demand" in 2006. We used ten words... can you spot them? Seriously, it's a game and only one person has ever attempted and come close to guessing all ten words. IF you can guess them all correctly, we'll send you a prize.
I can't remember exactly how this song came about but I'm guessing it was the brainchild of Buttnz, with the original King Dyl beat as inspiration. We literally made a list of Ten completely arbitrary words all three of us had to incorporate into our verses. It was fun to see how we each used them. Some words were more obvious than others...
But also "We used ten words, see if you can spot them" is actually TEN WORDS. Those aren't THE ten words though.
This remix version was a nice entry from producer SoulamezZ (hailing from France) that we felt complimented the vocals nice and brought a nice western vibe to the track. Another winner from the Remix Contest! This one was hard to pick because there were a number of solid entries, but overall this one hit the most marks!
Take a listen!

Track 9 "LET'S GO!"
Some might recognize similar elements of this beat from King Dyl's 2012 album "Dinosaurs on Broadway". While that album has some solid gems, overall the album was a disappointment in Dylan's eyes and removed from public consumption. However, the beat for "Let's Go" was just so full of hotness that King Dylan remixed it and pitched it to The D.C. Show to remake and re-write/re-release back in 2016.
So MC Mossberg stepped up, and then we waited... and waited... Multiple emails, re-sends, and reminders later... suddenly 7 years had passed and no one else had written for it.
With some of the most fire lyrics to ever come out of Moss and Dylan's mouths, it's no wonder the other members obviously couldn't write anything to match up! (Ha!) But in all seriousness, a missed opportunity that was snatched up by the homie Capitole D who absolutely BRINGS IT.
Shake ya head, now!
-REBOOT WARS-
Track 8 "ON TOP OF THE WORLD"
Hot off the heels of GQ and King Dylan's "Afterlife" album in 2006, we were flying high after a string of semi-successful shows with the stars in our eyes, so subsequently the vibes sparked the original track that was produced by King Dylan. After Dylan wrote his verse, GQ came over to sing the hook and record his verse. The song felt complete with just the two of us, so it eventually ended up on The D.C. Show's "Bizarremageddon" album in 2008 after GQ officially joined the group, along with Smixx. It was also the Groomsmen's entrance music at MC Mossberg's wedding.
THIS new version by Septembryo captures that original energy in a new, yet refreshingly-retro way. So we were all jamming out to it when we first heard it. This was another winner of the remix contest, which was a "blind" listen, but I kinda had a feeling this was Septembryo's although I didn't want to say anything as to not sway the other votes.
Fun fact, we shot a mega-low-budget music video for this on top of houses when we were contract roofers. It's literally just handheld camera footage thrown together with the music backdrop, but it was all we could afford at the time. It still exists as a private video on my youtube for some reason... No, you can't watch it.

Track 7 - "STEP ON THE STAGE"
Another song from the yester-years, this track began in 2002 with the basic instrumental - a sample and a drum beat. King Dylan and Mossberg wrote some hard rhymes to it and while we were re-recording the demo about a year later, Buttnz showed up and wrote this epic verse for it, showing us just how easy it was for him, and thusly, making us feel bad.
The song was never released though, as we never had a chorus/hook, or any build in the instrumental, just some corny sound effects of an audience cheering and one of our homies acting as an "announcer". This is probably the deepest dive of any of the unreleased tracks, since Buttnz had no idea he was on it when we re-listened to it this year. Haha.
The vocals are the same recordings from 2003 (About the time when I started to properly save and label my vocal files separately) But unfortunately in 2002 I was in the bad habit of scrapping the source instrumental files after I did a final beat mixdown, all so I could save space on my 2GB HARD DRIVE COMPUTER. So in 2023 with 20+ years of songwriting experience under my belt I was able to recreate the original beat from scratch, but add new flair. And with this new flair, a Hook was born! Now, I love it.
Pretty fun track if you ask me.

TRACK 6 - "TRIPPIN' OUT (REMIX)"
While working extensively on the music video for the original Trippin Out King Dylan decided to make a Remix to help promote the Video single. Which then spawned the idea for the Remix Contest, which THEN spawned the idea for this album collection. A whole domino effect that culminates here and now.
I feel it has a nice West Coast vibe, but since The DC Show is from Canada, this is the aptly-titled "North Side G-mix".
We originally wrote this song after tripping off mushrooms at Moss's bachelor party. But it was also created as a sequel of sorts to "Good Times" from our Bizarremageddon album.
You can hear the original on "Robocalypse Supreme" and watch BOTH versions of the song, with the same music video, on bandcamp.

Day 5 / REBOOT WARS Track 5: "IMPOSSIBLE"
This track originally dates back to October 2002. Most of it was re-recorded, so the only remaining recordings of the original beat on this final version would be one of the synth tracks, and then of course the chorus vocals by Megan and Buttnz which were added in May 2003.
After not making the cut for the 2006 debut album "Smacked By Popular Demand" the song was shelved for a while. Buttnz left the group (for the 2nd time) in 2015 and while revisiting this song again his verse was replaced by one of GQ's best verses, while Mossberg and King Dyl re-recorded theirs to match the new sound. Once again, the beat was revamped in early 2023 for what you hear now. The OG chorus recordings still give me goosebumps. (Fun fact: You can hear a short background clip of the instrumental during a skit off King Dylan's "Die Tomorrow" album.)

TRACK 4 "We All Keep Singing" featuring Ricca Razor Sharp, Iron Lion, and Soleo
Back in 2014-2015 we were busy promoting our album Drinkognito and we were playing a few shows with the fellas in a rap-rock band called "Blades of Steel", which partially consisted of the three featured emcees on this track - Ricca Razor Sharp , Iron Lion , and Soleo. We all decided to make a track together and pay homage to some of our big musical influences growing up, as you'll hear some name dropping in the lyrics.
- Being the picky producer/mixer that's never quite satisfied, Dylan actually hesitated on releasing the song for years until the Reboot Wars project began and so then went back to the drawing board to sculpt a new version of the song, which we are (or just him?) is proud to release now. THAT opens up a whole new can of worms as to who likes which version better, but hey. This is what you get. 🤣

Track 3 "LOVE AN STUFF (REMIX)":
For those who didn't know, we did a Remix contest and we did a blind listening party - meaning we had no idea which producer did which remix - so we were tremendously surprised when we heard this remix. Even more surprised after we picked the winner that it was by the supernatural phenom pop-rock producer Septembryo. After suffering through a handful of sub-par entries, this remix blew us away. The best part about this song is the dichotomy of the uber-sexual lyrics, combined with the old-fashioned romance vibes of the instrumental. This was such a great addition and collaboration for this project.
The original track is featured on our latest album "Robocalypse Supreme" with a beat by King Dylan.

Track 2 "DRINKOGNITO (SCOTT BENNETT REMIX)":
The original Drinkognito was obviously such a banger we had to title our 2014 album after it. But who would have guessed when we selected it to be remixed we would receive such an amazingly hard-hitting, super epic, heavy rock anthem. It's almost as if this song was WAITING for this instrumental to be remixed by The Path Less Traveled's super-skilled frontman Scott Bennett. If anything goes harder than this track, it probably has a splash or two of something saucy in it's coffee cup.
This song is about getting drunk in public but keeping it incognito so you don't get scolded by police, or your mom, or whoever.

Produced by Scott Bennett of The Path Less Traveled
Verses by MC Mossberg , GQ, Buttnz & King Dylan

Track one "STILL HERE":
Originally written at the end of 2010, the song sat in limbo with a very different beat for over 12 years while waiting for a third verse to be written by literally ANY of the other members.... Well, that day never came so a brand new beat was made in 2023 to suit the shorter two-verse song. But honestly it turned out way better this way anyways.
We were talking about how having big dreams can lead to big doubts, but we keep on keeping on throughout it all, and after so many years of not "making it", we're still here. Funny that we wrote it 13 years ago and we are technically "still here" in 2023.
