ArtKids Australia
Sharing the love of drawing and art with kids, preschoolers, teens and adults. "I'm not creative!" Does that sound like you or your children?
At artKids Australia we are passionate about re-connecting adults and children to their creativity. Creativity is one of the most basic of all human needs. We all need to express ourselves. We have the need to create our world, ourselves and our dreams. The creative urge is the primary force of life. When we are creative, we are in 'The Zone', a state of Flow. We lose track of time, our heart rate

Anime is such a unique style of art that has been around for decades, and still very popular among kids, teens and adults today. Many children who love reading manga books or watching anime shows may want to create their own characters, or simply learn how to draw their favourite characters. In our 3-days Intro to Anime holiday program, we will show drawing techniques to achieve the distinctive anime/manga character look, and use tools and colouring markers. Join our Saturday afternoon Anime club after completing!

Many kids become frustrated and lose interest in drawing around 9-10 years of age as they move from imaginary and cartoon-style drawing to wanting to draw more realistically. Over three mornings, we’ll show your child how to make the move from cartoon to realistic drawing. We’ll cover how to really “see” an object, how to break it down into simple shapes and contour lines, how to create form through understanding shading and value, and how to position and draw objects in relation to one another.

In week 7 of term 2, we introduced our artKids students to Joan Miró, the late Spanish artist famous for turning tricky or complex things into simple and playful shapes. We also discussed the difference between geometric and organic shapes. Then we asked the students to cut out organic shapes from colourful paper and created characters using collage method, inspired by Miró’s work 😊

Our Story
What began as one, after-school art class taught from my home studio has grown into a thriving creative community for children, their parents and teachers. artKids developed out of my passion for the creative process and how best to reclaim it in adults and nurture it in young children.
