30 Days, 30 Reasons to Exercise.
. My reason to exercise! Thanks ESSA and Exercise Right for featuring me and Lina for the photography 😊
I respect the one body that was given to me by exercising daily. I reap the rewards of my labour and joyfully look forward to what lies ahead."
- Lorraine Barwick, Accredited Exercise Physiologist of the Year, 2016
Regular aerobic exercise can improve artery health in people with type 2 diabetes A new study from the University of Sydney has found that regular aerobic exercise can improve artery health in people with type 2 diabetes (T2D).
“Exercise is an essential part of both my professional life and personal life. It allows me to clear my mind, improve concentration and boost my energy levels.”
- Dr Paul Bloomfield, Chief Medical Officer for NRL - National Rugby League
“I move every day. I don't always push myself to the limit, but I love to stretch myself to see what I am capable of. I pursue fresh air and pleasure in activity - it's about a feeling not an appearance.”
- Sarah Berry, Journalist at The Sydney Morning Herald, yoga teacher
“I wake up every day and my body just knows that it's time to exercise, it's not a question or a maybe... you must find a way to naturally integrate some form of exercise into your day to day routine. What motivates me to exercise every single day, is my dream of becoming World Surfing Champion. But it's the feeling I get from accomplishing a training session that makes me feel on top of the world. It is so empowering to complete a session and feel a wave of positive endorphins wash over you."
- Sally Fitzgibbons, Professional World Champion Surfer
“Sport has helped me get over the fact that I will never walk again. All people face and overcome different sorts of pitfalls in life. Exercise and sport has opened up a lot of opportunities for me; I meet a lot of different people, travel overseas a lot and have great things to look forward to."
- Angela Ballard, Australian Paralympic athlete
"There is nothing more empowering than exercise. Not only can it be a way to socialise, but it enables you to push yourself physically and mentally."
- Ange Reakes, Australian cricketer (Sydney 6ers) and Accredited Exercise Physiologist
"Exercise and cycling for me are freedom. The freedom to have adventures, go new places, meet different people, and smash my physical and mental limits. Cycling provides a sense of purpose and enables me to live in the moment" - Hannah Macdougall, Elite Paralympic athlete
"As a full time footballer, exercise is part of my day to day routine. But there are also days when I don't have a scheduled training or gym session but I choose to exercise because I really enjoy it. I love going running early in the morning (even in Melbourne in the middle of winter) because then I am much more productive for the rest of the day and am able to fully relax when I have a rare few hours to myself." - Stephanie Catley, Westfield Matildas
“I exercise to achieve peak fitness and performance in my sport. I love to challenge myself physically and I feel good when I've pushed myself to the limit.”
Melissa Wu, Australian diver and Olympic medallist
I'm loving all these reasons to exercise!
“For me a reason to exercise is to take control of your day and feel good about yourself.
By exercising you can take your mind off the stresses of everyday life and provide yourself health benefits by making yourself fit and active. You’ll never regret a 30 minute run but you might regret 30 minutes on the couch!
For me exercise keeps me fit with the rigours of playing International Sevens Rugby and I need to make sure my body can not only take the hits, but also be able to get up and keep running for all of our matches. Sevens is a sport built on fitness and recovery, so I need to be at peak fitness to compete at this level!”
Tiana Penitani, Australian Womens 7s Team and Olympic gold medalist
Using exercise as an escape from you busy life is awesome. What not now?
“I enjoy exercise as it’s a way for me to forget everything that’s happening in our busy lives and allows me to focus on the task ahead, whether that be just watching the spot where I want to bowl or trying to beat personal bests in the gym.
I don’t think anyone in any of my teams enjoys running but I think we are all equally addicted to the feeling after you finish a session. You could be exhausted but at the same time you feel 100% better than what you did at the start.
One of my favourite exercises is yoga. I love being able to switch off, relax and take my body through a session. In times of stress, yoga helps me to stay in the present and not get too absorbed in the days or weeks ahead.”
Holly Ferling, Australian cricketer
What inspires you to exercise?
"I exercise because it keeps me mentally balanced and strong physically.
I think exercise and sport participation in Australia is important because it not only affects your physical and mental health, it has the ability to make you feel a part of something greater.
Sport has allowed me to create a life without a cultural barrier and has given people an opportunity to assess me based on my on-field ability."
Sabrina Frederick-Traub, Brisbane Lions
Great motivation to get exercising! November 1 is Day 1!

Today at the Charles Perkins Centre with this spectacular view of my beautiful city, I learnt about Stages in the Patient's Journey at the 24th Annual Conference of Cardiovascular Health and Rehabilitation Association of NSW and ACT.
The speakers were superb presenting quality information on some very thought provoking topics.
Yes I took lots of stand up breaks and walked from station to venue (4km return trip) to fit exercise into my big busy day!
