Cedar Falls Public Art
Highlighting the public artworks of Cedar Falls, Iowa > iconic elements of the city's landscape.
'If You Build It' by Amelia Blue Gotera was installed last week on the Miller Student Art Pad on Main Street!
The Cedar Falls Public Art Committee selected the project in April and Amelia began work on it in August. The Committee paid for the materials and provided a stipend to lease the artwork for one year.
Constructed from aluminum and painted with industrial paint, Amelia started the project with a miniature model and then translated it into 3D modeling software to generate cut-out instructions for a CNC plasma machine. She then worked with fellow PAI student, Rachel Heine, to bend, shape and build the sculpture.
Stop on out to see it and congratulate Amelia!
A dedication of our latest project will be on Friday, November 11th at 11am!
Located along the bike trial under the Main Street & 1st Street bridge, the project's mission was to introduce murals into the community and energize pedestrian traffic areas with artwork. The original idea came to us by Cedar Falls High School CAPS students and a call for artist submissions was released this past summer with over 40 artists responding.
Left to Right:
'Waxwings on the River' by Caylin Jayde
'The Metal Dock' by Karin Desnoyers
'The Rabbit Constellation: The Journey Constellation' by Autumn Rozario Hall
Parking (if needed) is available behind Hampton Inn with easy access to the bike trail. Come join us at the dedication to learn about the project and meet the artists!
You are invited to the dedication of "Dream House" on Saturday, September 10 at 9am at the River Place Plaza located at 2nd & State Street.
"Dream House" was designed by New York based artist Sujin Lim and fabricated by UNI students at the Public Art Incubator. Cedar Falls Public Works assisted with the installation.
Funding for this project was made possible with contributions by the family and friends of Kristine Martinson and the Cedar Falls Public Art Committee.
Enjoy the best day ever!
