The Guild would like to formally commemorate another award contribution of Matthew Tinamisan to our community, as he continues to make waves, reaching the Open Semi-Finals of the Ateneo Eco Debates conducted from May 4-6, 2024.

𝗕𝗥𝗘𝗔𝗞𝗜𝗡𝗚 𝗡𝗘𝗪𝗦 | Antonite De Luna, the next president of the Guild, and Matthew Tinamisan, the outgoing president of the Guild, both managed to score an 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐩𝐫𝐞-𝐦𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫𝐬 𝐛𝐫𝐞𝐚𝐤 at 𝐗𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐫𝐢𝐚𝐧 𝐏𝐚𝐫𝐥𝐢𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐲 𝐃𝐞𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐏𝐫𝐞-𝐔𝐀𝐃𝐂 hosted by Xaverian Debating Society of St. Xavier's College (Autonomous), Kolkata, India.

Antonite De Luna of PHINMA SPEED-UP | PISAY CRC | CT, alongside Kelvin Lampon and Stacey Hurtado, advanced to the Octo finals as the 8th Open Breaking Team. Meanwhile, Matthew Tinamisan served as one of the breaking adjudicators for the tournament.

Both contingents will advance to the Open Quarterfinals tomorrow, as PHINMA SPEED-UP | PISAY CRC | CT emerged victorious in the Octo Final round.

𝐌𝐚𝐤𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐇𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫𝐲: First Student from Phinma-University of Pangasinan Secures International Open Feats at Kampala Open 2024 held by Debate Foster🏆

Last January 27-28, 2024, 𝗠𝗮𝘁𝘁𝗵𝗲𝘄 𝗔𝗰𝗲 𝗔𝗻𝗴𝗲𝗹𝗼 𝗚. 𝗧𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗮𝗻, the president of SPEED-UP: Speech and Debate Guild of Phinma-University of Pangasinan, and his partner, Kelvin Lampon from the Philippine Science High School, have etched a remarkable achievement.

During this tournament, Matthew accomplished the following:

1.) Secure a top 2 team position in the preliminary rounds among 288 teams.
2.) Ranked 10th out of 576 speakers.
3.) Ranked second among 217 novice speakers.
4.) Reached the grand finals, emerging as one of the top 4 teams, with only champions and the runner-up announced during ceremony.
5.) Be one of the debaters in the one and only Filipino Team in the Grandfinals. 🇵🇭

This moment not only signifies an individual achievement but also stands as a pivotal chapter in the history and legacy of the Pangasinan Debate Community.

Matthew Tinamisan’s accomplishments break barriers for students in Pangasinan, establishing a new standard for future generations in the international arena of speech and debate. This helps avoid new debaters in Pangasinan feeling left out due to outdated standards from the past. As the first student within a Pangasinan institution to achieve these international feats, Matthew leaves an indelible mark on the legacy of debate in the province.
