In Reclaiming Our Humanity, we explore the remarkable journeys of six African American men who defied the odds, by rebuilding their lives after incarceration. Their stories are testaments to the power of determination, redemption, and the human spirit. Reclaiming Our Humanity is an inspiring collection of stories that reveals the incredible potential for change and growth within individuals who have experienced the criminal justice system.
These six African American men prove that, with determination, support, and an unwavering belief in themselves, success can emerge from even the darkest of circumstances. Their tales serve as a beacon of hope for all those who strive to overcome adversity and build a brighter future.

There are SIXTY-NINE cop cities being built or already built across the U.S since 2020—including one proposed right here in the Bay Area.

Research shows that the major push for these projects began after the 2020 uprisings to further militarize police and train them to quell future mass uprisings.

We are seeing right now how militarized police are being used across the country to repress pro-Palestine protestors. This descent into fascism will only get worse with cop cities in our communities. We reject the construction of a $44 million regional police training facility in San Pablo!

🗓️Join us and the Stop Cop City Bay Area coalition in this fight on Monday, May 20 at 5pm for a press conference and city council mobilization in San Pablo
Alt text: Black grungy flyer with text that reads “Stop Cop City Bay Area - All out to San Pablo City Council! Monday, May 20, 2024, | 5:00pm | San Pablo City Hall
| 1000 Gateway Avenue San Pablo, CA.” At top a silhouette of the Richmond San Rafael bridge. In the background, there’s a map of USA with planned Cop Cities across the country marked with red skulls, and an arrow pointing to the one planned for San Pablo. At the bottom is an illustration of a protest crowd.

We Are the Medicine We Seek: A Gathering of Service Providers to Collectively Grieve and Strategize the Protection of our Neurodivergent Community 🗓️ Monday, March 25, 2024 | 2:30 - 4:00 p.m. PT

The Pacific Southwest MHTTC Team recognizes that the young people we serve experience injustice regularly and that it is far too often at the hands of institutions they turn to for support. Ryan Gainer was a 15 year old Black boy who loved long-distance running, music, and video games. He hoped to be an engineer. Ryan was on the autism spectrum and was shot and killed by police deputies while experiencing emotional dysregulation.

Join us with facilitators Oriana Ides and Falilah “Aisha” Bilal for an opportunity to process our pain, witness our grief, and radically imagine new ways of intervening. We will uplift our brother, son, student, client, Ryan Gainer, and those with similar identities because when we gather in purpose, we heal. The world heals. This is not a grief support circle or a training. It is a gathering to witness one another and validate the real and necessary feelings experienced when state violence, racial violence, and disability injustice cause irreversible harm in our communities.

From : We are in an unprecedented moment where the world is rising up in solidarity with Palestinians calling for a ceasefire.

It’s imperative that as we intensify our calls for a ceasefire, we extend our solidarity to stand with & stand up for Black people who are dying under the boot of white nationalism unaddressed. White nationalism requires the deprivation, deportation, sterilization, incarceration, exploitation, and extermination of people of color in general, and in particular, of Black communities. We must seize this opportunity to broaden the movement and build the relationships necessary to successfully remove the boot of white nationalism off the necks of people of color worldwide.

We call on the world to end Black Death and save Black lives from West & East Oakland to West & East Africa, South Berkeley to South Sudan, Hunter’s Point to Halt, Chicago to the Congo.

Join CRC & the 4 Peace Coalition for our Stop Black Death: Save Black Lives March & Rally on Monday, February 19 at 1pm at Oscar Grant Plaza, 14th & Broadway, Oakland.

The 4 Peace Coalition is convened by Community Ready Corps and includes KANO Special Services, From the Cage to the Stage, Anti Police-Terror Project (APTP), MH First, Haiti Action Committee, Pathways to Peace, and Guiding a New Generation (GANG).

Restorative Justice for Oakland Youth (RJOY) HISTORY

The dramatic successes of the Truth and Reconciliation Commission in healing the wounds of mass violence in South Africa and of restorative juvenile justice legislation in making youth incarceration virtually obsolete in New Zealand inspired civil rights attorney and community activist Fania E. Davis to explore the possibility of an Oakland initiative. In 2005, others joined the effort, including Oakland City Councilmember Nancy Nadel and community activist Aeeshah Clottey. Nancy hosted a series of meetings at her office, attended by community members, judges, educators, law students and representatives of the District Attorney’s, Public Defender’s, and Human Services offices. With a small grant from Measure Y, Oakland’s voter-approved violence prevention initiative, Restorative Justice for Oakland Youth (RJOY) was born.

From tech millionares in San Francisco to corporate businesses, there are special interests who benefit from the narrative that Oakland will never be safe. They want us to focus on the symptoms of the problem instead of the problem itself because they benefit from the status quo.

The greatest indicator of whether or not you will be a victim of violent or property crime is your income level. The safest communities are the most resourced. We can only build a safer Oakland if we all share in the collective responsibility of keeping us safe.

This weekend Oakland community leaders, activist and residents are hosting a West Oakland "We Keep Us Safe" Day of Service to demonstrate what it means to keep us safe.
