Teach Nomadic
Thousands of online teachers. Hundreds of locations with verified internet speed and space that are safe to teach from. All on one map. STAY CONNECTED.
As online teachers, we have some different needs from ‘digital nomads’ who just need a basic WiFi connection to get their work done. I felt that my level of “pure nomadism” was restricted by these challenges, like I couldn’t roam as freely as some of my friends who work online, and I wanted to change that for us. Our plans to roam like that should not be restricted by our profession. Just think ab
✈️ “Should I tell my students I’m traveling or just say I’m in the US? 😬😬”
➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
‼️ Of course! There’s no reason doing so should detract from your lessons, and it’ll usually have the opposite effect (like that☝️). If I’m living overseas and traveling the world, you best beLIEVE these kids are coming with me 😎.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🤓 Plus, as prolific writer Alice Wellington Rollins was credited with saying: The test of a good teacher is not how many questions he can ask his pupils that they will answer readily, but how many questions he inspires them to ask which he finds it hard to answer.” I’m all about provoking thoughts outside the material.
➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
❓Do you tell your students and their parents that you’re outside of the US? If not, why not? Let me know below!👇
✈️ Seems fitting to finally break 1000 5-apple reviews while staying in an Airbnb another online teacher added to the map at TeachNomadic.com after leaving this project for almost a year. That one Unsatisfactory review? 3 🍎s for my unstable internet connection in Granada, and the motivation for starting this site.
You’ve heard it before: here’s why your “why” is EVERYTHING 👇.
➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖➖
Many of us do other things besides VIPKid, and for my digital marketing work I can get by in cafes.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🤓 But us teachers need something different. Over an 8 hour period of consuming copious coffee interspersed with sips of water, I had built a functioning version of Teach Nomadic.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
😓 When it started feeling like “extra work”, I focused on other projects. But it continued growing slowly, and I got questions about why the site didn’t do things it TOTALLY should be able to do. Teachers wanted more from it, and so do I.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
😅 The truth is, I’m not a programmer. I’ve built it using my own time, money, and resources, and with tons of help from awesome teachers who believe we should be able to travel just as easily with our work. They’ve shared TN and added spaces to it, and I’m very grateful for this 😌.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💬 Talking with my brother, I told him I didn’t care which clients I worked for with my digital marketing services, I didn’t care what funded the TN site, as long as I could continue soaking up as many experiences for myself while traveling.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
💡 His response now forms the basis of my “why” in both my marketing services and for Teach Nomadic. It was something like:
“That’s great for you. But think about how good you feel traveling and collecting those experiences. Think about the positive impact it has had on your life. What if you could help other people feel that way too?”
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
🌏 I want you to be able to take the leap and enjoy the same freedom WITHOUT worrying about being able to do the job you love. If that sounds like something you’re into, I hope you’ll join me in filling the map with teachable spaces 👍.
