During which I visited the Bakau New Town School where over 1200 incredibly smart and respectful students learn. I was struck by the school’s critical need - their single borehole water pump was recently stolen, leaving no running water for drinking, hygiene, or sanitation.

Despite the circumstances, the students were still eager to learn thanks to dedicated teachers and support staff. I’m raising funds to purchase and install a new water pump and secure it within a pump house to finally provide safe, reliable running water.

Just £3000 would cover equipment and building costs. Access to water will dramatically improve the health and wellbeing and ultimately the education of these children. Any additional funds raised will go towards replacing leaky roofs ahead of rainy season and kitchen maintenance.

I’m inspired by the students’ resilience and hope you can help to transform young lives in The Gambia.
I will be supervising the installation so all funds go directly to the urgent works needed.

TRY Oyster Women's Association

In 2017, Gambia’s TRY Oyster Women Association formed to tackle two problems: oyster harvesters, primarily women, performed difficult, dangerous work for little income, while coastal degradation and unsustainable extraction were devastating oyster habitat. Today, TRY’s 500 female oyster harvesters serve as stewards of the mangroves, harvesting sustainably and reforesting habitat while enjoying improved working conditions and more financial security.
