Lately a couple of clients have completely lost their websites because they ignored multiple emails explicitly telling them something IMPORTANT needed to be done. We are not aware when one of these companies emails a notice to you, so please just keep us in the loop so we make sure that you do not lose any important services, or end up spending extra money that you shouldn't need to.

https://biondostudio.com/why-should-i-register-multiple-domain-names/

You only need one domain name to have a website, but when it comes to your business and brand, you definitely do not want to leave similar names available for copycats to register and take advantage of your search engine results or create confusion for your clients or within your industry. A strong brand is important to differentiate you, but it also helps to register every domain name iteration that you can think of.

When deciding on the name of your website, think about each and every possible similar name, and if you would be annoyed if someone else had that domain, make sure that you get it for yourself first. Domain names with privacy cost an average of about $20.00 per year each, and it’s well worth the cost to have the control of those names. Of course, you would choose one main domain that you’d use for promotion and directing people to, and the others could all simply all forward to the same website. We can easily set that up for you.

If your business name is your own legal name, and you think that no one would be interested in it because it’s your own personal name, think again. There are people out there who would fake their own name, just to attempt to leech off of the business brand and reputation that you’ve taken decades to build. If this happens and you have a good solid business, it won’t necessarily be a threat, even if the person chooses to be in the same industry as you. With quick generic graphics and website templates available, it’s quite easy for someone to put up a business overnight. Most creative people and entrepreneurs prefer to be unique and not be mixed up with others who are working in their same field.

Trademarking your business name is a good idea and does give you power within your own country and the businesses that are based within it, but it does get more complicated with other countries. It also takes quite awhile and does cost a bit to copyright and protect your name with the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Overall, it does take some effort to make sure there isn’t confusion in the marketplace, and that hassle can be avoided if you protect yourself by making sure you get any domain names that could be associated with your name and industry. Looking at the bright side, if this does happen, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery.

https://biondostudio.com/is-a-contact-form-better-than-a-direct-email-button/
Is a contact form better than a direct email button?

A contact form looks nice on a website and we will add one into any project, but by default we have decided to use a direct email button instead. We love the aesthetics of the form, but over the past few years, the final decision is that we always want to make sure that you get each and every message that comes through, as that’s the entire point of the website. The email button has very few issues, sometimes simple is best.

Usually once a form has been installed and the website is launched, the client will suddenly receive spam messages, and then we need to add another level of security using Google ReCaptcha. With hackers and security being what it is these days, there are many factors and variables that sometimes have to be considered when setting up a contact form. Sometimes the domain is at one company and the hosting at another. The forms can be tricky and everyone’s server/email/website configuration is different. Sometimes a custom email is set up through Google Workspace or Microsoft Email 365, and both have different rules, as do other email programs. Special files, called SPF records at times need to be installed to push the email through. There have been times that a form is working perfectly fine, but then a client may unknowingly install a conflicting plugin, or maybe an important WordPress maintenance update was missed, and the email does not come through.

We will continue to put forms in for clients, at their special request, but at this point we recommend the direct email button. For existing clients that have a form, and they are getting an update through us, we always have tested the receiving of the form, but now will probably recommend removing it.

https://biondostudio.com/how-can-i-re-connect-my-instagram-feed-to-my-site/

More and more clients are requesting that social media feeds be embedded into their website. The most common is Instagram, but Twitter and Facebook and a few others can be embedded also. This is not difficult to do, and we usually have our own Instagram account embedded into the website as an example, until it's time to launch the website.

Once the site is launched, the plugin becomes deactivated and it has to be re-hooked up again, so we connect to the client's own account right after we launch the website. Being that the plugin requires a connection with a username and password, and sensitive information, this is something that we'd prefer to instruct the client so they know how to connect their account to their website themselves. If that fails, then we are happy to get on the phone and walk them through it, or even to do that for them, but we just request that the client change their password right afterwards. Here are the steps to reconnect your Instagram Feed plugin if it becomes unhooked:

First make sure that you're logged into your Instagram account.
Log into your WordPress website.
Once logged in, you'll see the plugin called "Instagram Feed" in the left sidebar of the dashboard.

Go to Settings >> All Feeds >> then you will see the Biondo Studio feed >> click the pencil at the far right under Actions.

From there, click >> Settings >> then click Sources, the first item listed.

Under User Timeline >> Edit Sources >> Add Another Source >> Add New >> Connect an Instagram Account

Go through the steps in the secure dialog box and it will embed your feed and automatically update your site whenever you post.
Delete any Biondo Studio sources so that only your own Instagram is part of the feed. Save any settings as needed.

What is a mobile-friendly website?
https://biondostudio.com/what-is-a-mobile-friendly-site/

These days, every single website is mobile-friendly, which means that we design everything to look good no matter what sized device that it’s being viewed on. When we first started out building websites, there were only a few standard sizes for screens, then came along phones and tablets, and now we have every screen size available that you can imagine. It is our job to build the site so that it looks good, no matter what the dimensions.

Responsive design is another term used for mobile-friendly, and what that means is the website responds by expanding and contracting to the size of the screen so that it’s easily viewed. What may have a lot of space and can easily fit side by side on a wide desktop monitor, will respond and be stacked on top of each other on a tablet or phone screen. When we are developing a website, we check every design on various device sizes so that everything looks good and is clearly legible for your viewers.

Flexibility is the key word in building today’s websites. Being that this method of programming is flexible, we also are flexible with how designs lay out on in-between sizes. When we start a project with a design draft, it is a static image of how we plan for the design to look, an approximation of the average desktop monitor. This gives the client the chance to see the general idea of the final product, and what we base the website on, but exact pixel perfect placement may adjust a bit after it’s built because every screen size is different.

Once we move onto development, there are many moving parts and elements that we program with codes and test on different devices. For example, a navigation menu may only take up 50% of the width of a large desktop screen, but on a smaller one, it may break up into two lines, so that it’s clearly visible there too. These are called “break points” so that the website knows the width of the screen and responds accordingly without being cut off. And this is what allows us to have things seamlessly flow between one screen size and another.

https://biondostudio.com/should-i-hire-a-photographer-for-my-brand/

Should I hire a photographer for my brand?

Stock photos are a good option to inexpensively create a look for your branding, and there are many different companies to choose from. However, lately more and more of our clients are opting to have professional photos taken and to put their own face front and center on their website. Yes, hiring a photographer is a bit more of an expense, but having a good set of branded photos of yourself is useful for many different purposes. First of all, there’s nothing like a completely personalized image with yourself in it, as well as the location and overall style. We are happy to help you with advice and even some remote art direction as you’re gathering the details of the photographer to hire, the concept to go with, and if you’d like, even the outfit you choose. To get more mileage out of your photos, try not to go with the trendy outfit of the season that might look great today, but possibly look dated in 2 years time. We don’t recommend using cell phone pictures because they can look blurry or unprofessional, and the lighting has to be right as well as the quality.

When shooting an image for the home page, we’ll definitely have more design options if the photo is in landscape orientation. Leaving some background around the subject gives us more room to play with as far as fitting text on the screen and having a full screen image. Traditional headshots definitely limit the layout of the home landing page. Your photographer will probably be familiar with this already, but a wide-screen image fits most wide screen monitors. We crop the photos on our end to fit nicely on various device sizes, and we generally recommend portrait oriented photos for your bio or about section. Your photographer will usually give you retouched or edited photos and in a large size and high resolution that can be used for print or for web. It’s always good to get a whole series, with a variety of clothing and settings, and also while you’re there, get some headshots. Between the website, social media and perhaps even printed materials, a set of professional photos will go a long way.

Anyone who contacts us and is interested in our services, can schedule a 30 minute phone call with us where we can answer any questions that you may have for you to base your decision on for your website. Many clients come to us without much knowledge or ever having a website before, and we are happy to walk you through the process and show different example and options.

We also like to ask questions during the consultation, and the conversation covers 3 main categories:

1. Design and branding: what you'd like the overall look and style to be, type of business, target audience, website, social media, printed materials, and maybe color scheme and preferred font styles. Sometimes an illustration is needed, or many times the design will be based on a photograph (either a stock photo or a customized photo shoot.) Extras such as mobile-friendly animation can be factored in, as well as other specific design requests.

2. Website content: we go over what pages will be part of the website, and what would be on each page. Special pages or sections needed, such as blogs, or mailing list forms, or image slideshows or galleries. The total number of pages and content is factored into the time it will take to build the website.

3. Technical info: things such as domain name, website hosting, SSL certificates, etc. If you're already with another company, we'll ask for your account info and we'll look into how those things are configured and plan to stay with things as they are, or perhaps offer another solution if we think that it would work out better for you. Clients who have never had a site before usually are starting fresh.

After we collect all of this info, we'll write up an accurate estimate for your project and send it along with a simple contract. We'll factor in your deadline as well as the design complexity and size of the website and let you make your decision from there.
