SO! The chakra and woo woo ladies were saying this new moon needs us to let go of things we have attached shame to that aren’t actually shameful so this is my thing:

Started DJ’ng THIS year and bought myself a controller. Those who are familiar with this kinda thing will know gore this isn’t professional equipment and for some reason because of this, I’ve been feeling this immense amount of shame that I’m SO reliant on a controller to be able to play. But the truth is, there’s nothing shameful about it. It’s my baby, it’s what I have to work with now and it’s allowing me to chase my dream.

When the time comes, I will be able to move up and play on bigger platforms with CDJs and stuff, and I’ll be nothing but grateful that I had my DDJ to help me through this part of the journey. So I’m just gonna enjoy myself and work with what’s in my control (🤪)

I’m going through a phase of rediscovery. And not like, discovering a new version of me, but rediscovering the me I was before all the heart ache, perceived failure, trauma and all that nasty stuff that made me thing I needed to be more quiet and watered down.

I’m rediscovering the loud and audacious ayishe, the dreamer, the creative ayishe. The one who actually just tries, despite how hard and embarrassing it might be. I’m rediscovering the ayishe who LOVES to love and who knows she’s just as deserving of that love, as a work in progress…

(was gonna make a cute little conclusion but I’m also deepin, my words are enough without a conclusion because I’m actually not done yet…)

For as far as I can remember writing has been a significant part of my life. I went from writing on walls to writing my name on any surface I could find to keeping a journal and ultimately deciding at 17 that whatever profession I enter should be a stepping stone to becoming a living, breathing writer. So being a part of this project, despite the imposter syndrome, anxiety and challenges faced, is always an honour because it symbolises a full circle moment for me.

The teenage girl who was obsessed with writing and fashion & lifestyle magazines is a part of such a platform.

Creating content is literally my favourite thing in the world and getting to do it in both my personal and professional world is reaaaaally something I don't take for granted. But with this blessing, of course comes challenges and the biggest one being finding a balance between creating on behalf for my job (and clients) and creating for myself.

As time goes, I hope ( read as plan) to strike the balance and reaaaally get the best of both worlds.

To 17 year old ayishe, and 26 year old ayishe:

Don’t be ashamed of the things you want. They matter, they aren’t embarrassing and they are attainable.

So the things you say dream about, being a magazine editor, being a blogger, being a photographer and feeling like a star in all the things you do, it’s not a day dream, it’s a possibility. Although things may not seem like it now and you’ll experience a lot of what will look and feel like rejection, you *will* get what you want. But only if you got for it relentlessly, and confidently.

After sending out 3 job applications over a period of 2 years, fighting my way through the last academic year of school and experiencing some unfulfilling roles, I got my letter of confirmation at my dream job today and above anything else I have to say trusting God's timing is really everything.

In the past 3 months working for Voodoo Advertising, I have learned so much about my capabilities not just as a digital marketing professional, but as a woman. I work better, I listen better, I manage myself and my interactions better and this has been one of the toughest but most reward period of my career. Yes, there have been tougher times but this period has been trying in a different way because it taught me to fight through my imposter syndrome and genuinely work towards proving to myself that I have earned my spot here.

So here's to more growth, more opportunities and more magic for me, a living breathing Digital Content Curator.

And there I was, his golden girl, his trophy.
