The Thumble

National Breast feeding is celebrated annually from the 1st - 7th August. The theme for 2024 is Closing the gap: Breastfeeding support for all. This years campaign wants to really recognise breastfeeding mums, ensure they are seen and heard, and share relatable human experiences about breastfeeding and the importance of multi-level support. These action aim to help women to breastfeed for as long as they would like.

The idea for Baby Nails came to me as I was breastfeeding our son. It was a time when he was happy and relax, but we often sat for long periods so it was a great time to multi-task too! I had previous struggled to trim his nails with baby clippers and read that filing is a safer method. I tried to file his nails using a regular nail file out of my bedside drawer but I couldn't cradle him and hold the nail file correctly. It just ended up on the floor, out of my reach! By the time our patented wearable nail file was an actual product and no longer a concept, I was expecting our second child, therefore our daughter's nail care was fuss free. I would file using the Thumble® and feed with ease.

It's World Book Day! Ah despite the stress associated with the preparation for today, I do love being crafty and helping our 2 children to bring to life the characters they have chosen to be for the day. World Book Day hopes to instill a love of books and promote reading for pleasure to children, to contribute to their future and development. Reading is so important from an early age. Your baby will listen to your familiar voice and you'll look at the beautiful illustrations together. Whilst reading you're exposing them to a wide range of words so they hear different sounds, words and phrases, which in turn they will try to copy, improving their vocabulary and understanding too. When we came up with the idea for Baby Nails, we wanted to make baby nail care a stress-free experience, a time where you could bond with your baby and it not be a task that you fear. Our Thumble is worn on the thumb so it leaves you ‘hands-free’ to bond with your baby whilst filing. So why not read a book and file! It keeps them distracted and gives them more exposure to those all-important words and sounds. And in our ‘all too busy’ lifestyle it’s a time where we can enjoy a cuddle, unwind and relax too.

This image popped up in my photo memories a couple of days ago. We are a family run business, a husband and wife team with our 2 children at the heart of it. They love being part of our team and even bring their own ideas to the table. Who knows, maybe one day we'll bring a product to market that they thought of. Today Baby Nails turns 8! We've come a long way over the last 8 years from an idea, to lots (and lots) of prototypes, to making up products on our our lounge floor with a toddler in tow and a baby on the way!! We've been asked to deliver a talk in our village about our invention next week which has taken me down memory lane. We are BEYOND excited to now be stocked in The Shop at the National Space Centre! Our new Space Teether Toys and Squiggle Strap are in our opinion just perfect for the National Space Centre Shop. They make the best souvenirs after a day visiting the UK's largest attraction dedicated to all things space! Our son got to see them first on the shelves whilst on a school visit last week.
