As you might have heard, SDV is going Abroad again to Miami and London in Block D 2017.

We are looking for motivated, passionate students who are seeking the extra challenge of taking SDV abroad.

The application deadline is Wednesday Week 3 / 30 November 6 PM.

!!! Please be aware that your financial situation should under no circumstances be a reason for you not to apply !!!

Please do not hesitate to submit your application if you are interested in the course.

All questions you might have can hopefully be answered in the upcoming information sessions to which we invited you in the beginning of the week.

SDV will go Abroad again in block D 2017

SDV Abroad takes you 5 weeks Abroad to London or Miami.

During these weeks you will have the opportunity to work with a real life case company: Four Seasons Hotels.

Expand your international network, work in a challenging environment and gain incredible experiences.

Students that are scheduled for SDV in block C and D will receive an invitation for application.

In addition, for everybody who would like to get information on SDV Abroad, a presentation with further information and shared experiences will be given.

Last week we finally handed in the SDV project and presented our findings to the Four Seasons Management Team. We have learned so much from meeting several industry professionals and studying in a different environment. What a huge opportunity!

Now we have some time to explore Miami. Days are filled with day trips to the Everglades and Key West. Also we experienced a real American afternoon with a tailgate before watching the Football game between Miami Hurricanes and Pittsburgh Panthers.

A big thank you to Mr Feigenbaum and the Management Team of Four Seasons for making this experience happen!

It has already been two weeks since we arrived in Miami! Last week, we met the Management Team of Four Seasons for the first time.
The days after, we had intensive coaching sessions with Mr Feigenbaum and spent long days working on our projects. To let all information sink in, we took half a day off and went to Wynwood, which is famous for it street arts and small markets.
On Tuesday, we went to Four Seasons again and had the privilege to ask our questions to the Human Resource Manager and the Director of Development. We gained some extremely interesting insights of the company and a sneak peak what strategy Four Seasons is aiming for!

Where do we begin to explain the last few days? They have been filled with stress, laugher, joy and excitement! On Tuesday, we had the honour of presenting our project to the management team of Four Seasons. We would like to thank the management team of Four Seasons Hotel Miami for their continious support and time over the past five weeks! :)

We would also like to thank all the hotel managers of the nearby hotels for accommodating us in their lobbies to work. Thank you for taking the time to speak with us about your experiences, your careers and for all the advice you gave us about entering this wonderful hospitality industry!

And today, we say goodbye to our beloved professor Stuart Feigenbaum! Thank you for your precious time, for continiously believing in us and for your dedication towards your 'kids'. :D You pushed us to our limits and made us discover our true potential. We go home with many good memories and life lessons. We have all grown tremendously as a group and as individuals thanks to you!

It is with a heavy heart that all of us leave Miami in the upcoming days. :(

After a challenging but highly rewarding 8 weeks, the SDV London team is delighted to have greatly impressed the management team of Four Seasons Park Lane! The journey to the final presentation was intense, but now that its all over we wish it could have lasted longer. A huge thanks to the management team, Mr. Fagel and Mr. Lim for making this life changing experience happen. We are delighted to have been given this opportunity, and for now we say goodbye to London!

Today we spent the morning at Florida International University (FIU). We had the pleasure of meeting Steve Rushmore founder of HVS who gave us a presentation on "how to succeed in life without wasting your time". After that we visited the campus and learned about the various master programs offered at FIU! Big thank you to Dean Hampton for welcoming us on campus today!

On Wednesday, we went to the Four Seasons Brickell to meet with the management team once again. We had the privilege to meet with one of the Four Seasons developer, the GM, the finance director, the resident manager, and HR managers to ask them our numerous questions. It was a full day filled with Q&A sessions with the various management members, which was extremely helpful for us.

We now have just a few days left to round off our reports and afterwards we hope to WOW the management team with our innovative ideas! :)

Although being extremely busy working on SDV and frequently meeting with Four Seasons Park Lane, we were lucky enough to visit Rosewood Hotel London for an afternoon! We met HTH alumni Kristian Overbeek, the Asset Manager Europe for CTF Development International (ownership Rosewood ), and discovered the world of hotel real estate development! Now it is time for the last but most intense weeks of SDV abroad!

Woah, time flies when you are having fun! :) It's already been 2 weeks that the SDV team has been in Miami and so much has happened! Between what feels like working 24/7 on the challenging project and catching some sleep, the team managed to meet management of nearby hotels and organise some visits of hotels such as 1 Hotel and the Edition! Here is a glimpse of some our experiences in the past two weeks ...

Today we had the pleasure to spend the entire day working in Four Seasons Park Lane! We had the chance to ask all the questions we had to the General Manager, F&B Director and the Learning and Development Manager. It was a truly inspiring day hearing their personal career stories and we are all excited to further develop our strategies for them!

Both teams in London and Miami met with the Four Seasons this week in order to gain further insight on the property they will be developing a strategy for!

Between packing, working on SDV and leaving our friends we still had a chance to say goodbye to Hotelschool until next block, for now London is calling! We are all very excited to start this new journey and collaborate with Four Seasons Park Lane!

On Wednesday May 25th, two of the SDV Miami students are already departing for the USA! Between packing and studying Victoria and Alexandra, made some time to share their excitement:

“To be honest, with the departure day approaching so rapidly, we can hardly focus on SDV. Our minds bounce between labour law regulations and whether we need two pairs of ballerinas or one. It’s been almost a year since we started preparing for SDV Miami and it is so thrilling to see it become reality! The past four weeks have been perhaps the most challenging we have had in our Hotelschool career, but also the most insightful ones. We’re sure that once we’re in Miami another world will reveal itself to us”

Along with 17 other students leaving this weekend, the group of students will be finalising the phase 3 course Strategic Development. The students will stay in Miami for five weeks and will have the unique opportunity to interact with the management of Four Seasons Miami. They will also meet with several experts in the field of strategy, such as Dr West, the co-author of the book Strategic Management in the Hospitality Industry.

In just two weeks, these students will be departing for London and Miami to follow the course SDV abroad and work with the company Four Seasons!

On the 30th of May the third edition of SDV Abroad of Hotelschool The Hague is taking place. Nineteen highly motivated Hotelschool students will be travelling to Miami to work on the project Strategy Development together with the Four Seasons Hotel Miami. To fund this project, the SDV Miami Team 2016 has been organising many fundraising events already and will organise a few more before departure. We hope you will join us at one of our upcoming events!

One of the wonderful events that the team organised last week was the: 50 years Brusselselaan on April 13. This was an Alumni Networking Event celebrating the 50th anniversary of The Hague Campus. The afternoon started at 16.00 and Alunmi's shared their experiences of how it was like living on campus in the past 50 years. Afterwards, the attendees were invited to join for some networking drinks.

"Thank you to all Alumni celebrating with us and supporting the SDV Abroad project. It was wonderful listening to all the different experiences shared by our guest speakers and for many to revel in memories. This year not one but two groups of students from Hotelschool The Hague will be taking part in SDV Abroad. One group of students will be following the course in Miami while the other will be in London.
