Mission of SPICMF
Our Vision Statement reads, “The premier international Celtic Music Festival Destination, located at the foot of the Spanish Peaks.” The Spanish Peaks International Celtic Music Festival (SPICMF) is that, a Celtic music festival, but really so much more. We are more accurately a four day ‘destination-retreat’ where internationally respected artists and scholars not only perform in concert, but share
their musical talent and knowledge in a full range of upwards of fifty plus workshops, demonstration talks, and open (free) singing, dancing and playing sessions for all. Perhaps most importantly, we provide musical and cultural education at no charge to the schools in our county.
We express this in our Mission Statement: “The SPICMF celebrates the living legacy of the worldwide Celtic cultures and traditions with opportunities to experience the diversity of Celtic spirit through creative interaction, education and performances.”

Walsenburg Youth Football also known as Walsenburg Warriors was a big asset to our local youth for many years! Unfortunately due to the pandemic and the build of the new school causing demolition of our equipment shed, the program has not been able to take place. Our mission is to bring this program back to life for the youth in our Community! We can not do so without the financial help from our community. This program offers youth tackle football for grades 2nd-6th for Huerfano County youth. In the past our program had a total of 34-40 players for the 13 week season! The Scenic Highway of Legends (SHOL) has been an integral part of Huerfano and Las Animas County’s tourism for more than 30 years. America’s Byways are a distinctive collection of American roads that demonstrate certain unique, intrinsic qualities identified as archaeological, cultural, historic, natural, recreational and/or scenic. In addition to providing exploration opportunities for travelers, this designation brings increased awareness and additional economic benefits to the region.
The most recent analysis shows a cumulative statewide economic impact of nearly $4.8 billion over a six-year period, with the Scenic Highway of Legends providing nearly $180 million in economic benefit for the region.
The Scenic Highway of Legends would use funds raised during the Twelve Days of Giving to reprint their ever popular marketing brochures, which would then be re-stock at all visitor centers and businesses in the Spanish Peaks region, to continue to share the beauty of our Scenic Highway of Legends!

In 1972 a group of local ranchers got together and came up with the funds to build the Huerfano County Fairgrounds and the first board was formed. Today, the 4-H/FFA program is still one of the largest youth organizations in Huerfano County.
The Huerfano County Fair Board has two main functions. Our first responsibility is to put on the five-day Huerfano County Fair, which is held during the second week in August each year. The fair is for all 4-H and FFA youth, countywide, ages 8-18. There is a large variety of projects that range from baking to beef. These programs teach the children who are enrolled in either 4-H or FFA responsibility, money management, profit and loss, leadership skills, and the value of hard work and dedication. Our second responsibility is the care, maintenance, and improvements of the fairground facilities.

Huerfano County 4-H Fair

Here's a message from the nonprofit themselves:
Visitors to the Walsenburg Mining Museum really enjoy getting locked up. Our cell block with original iron jail doors may be the best "selfie" spot in downtown Walsenburg! Visitors to the historic 1896 jailhouse are claiming the WMM is a "jewel of a museum". We record history with photographs, mining equipment in a mine shaft, a tent representing life in a tent colony, an art collection depicting men and families from mining camps, the historic jail, and the influence of the railroad on the mining industry. While the museum's main objective remains to remember and honor the coal miners and their families, our contents continue to grow and we now include much more for our visitors. The museum continues to operate with a volunteer staff.

The Huerfano-Las Animas Counties Early Childhood Council improves the quality of early learning environments to prepare young children to enter kindergarten; build the resources and skills of families; ensure that families have access to social, physical, and mental health services; and deliver resources to increase the effectiveness of early childhood professionals.

One of our many programs, The Growing Life Garden Program was created by kids for kids. Today we have 17 different garden sites working with over 500 participants in Huerfano and Las Animas Counties. Our foundation is built on teaching youth life skills, healthy eating, mindfulness and assisting with food insecurities. Children have the opportunity to learn about STEM, STEAM, agriculture, repurpose items in the garden, grow and harvest fresh herbs and vegetables throughout the year,

🌟 Join us in shining a light on From Forgotten to Forever Rescue and Transport! 🌟

From Forgotten to Forever Rescue & Transport started in 2015 with a mission of transporting dogs and cats out of high kill shelters in New Mexico north to Colorado. The transport side of the operation is responsible for assisting dozens of rescues in rescuing thousands of animals from Death Row over the years. In August of 2018, the rescue operation opened and since then has been responsible for the creation of hundreds of happy families through direct placement adoptions and expanded intake areas to include parts of Texas and remote areas of Colorado.

FFTF accepts all breeds, sizes, and ages of dogs and cats. We do not shy away from major medical cases and have invested thousands of dollars into saving the life of a single dog or cat on more than one occasion.
