STUDY TIP: REMOVE DISTRACTIONS! RESPECT YOUR STUDY TIME: SET A TIME FOR SOCIAL MEDIA AND SOCIALIZING.

FAQs: WHAT ARE MY OPTIONS AFTER MATRIC?
The answer to this question largely depends on what you want to do (career path) and how well you passed. Luckily there is NSFAS, so funding isn’t so much a factor as it used to be in the past when your family had to sell cows to send to school.
❖ TVET colleges: Very good for practical skills e.g plumbing, brick laying, electrician, carpentry, hospitality etc
❖ University of Technology (Technicon): such as DUT, MUT, CPUT, TUT etc Has qualifications that can be obtained within 3 years and also focuses on practical skills.
❖ University: Prestigious tertiary institutions with many courses. Mostly focuses on theory but does some practical skills as well.

When in doubt, it is better to take a Gap Year and focus on self-development, rather than starting a course that you know you will change (because changing may not be possible sometimes).

The first step to online applications is having an email address. Institutions use it to communicate with you regarding the status of your application. Make sure you have one before you start the application process.

FAQS: WHAT DO MY MATRIC RESULTS MEAN?
❖ When you pass grade 12, it’s either you pass with H (higher certificate); D (Diploma pass) or B (Bachelor pass). A person who qualifies for university is one who obtained a Bachelor pass (B) in matric. This, however, does not guarantee that you will be admitted to University. It is recommended that you have at least 28APS points but there are other Universities which take people with 26APS points.
❖ People who obtained a Diploma pass can only be admitted Universities of Technology such as DUT, MUT,CUT,CPUT etc. There are other Universities which have diploma qualifications for example (Diploma in Radiology etc). If you obtained a Diploma pass, you can only pursue a Diploma qualification if you opt to go to a University.
❖ People who obtained Higher certificate Pass (H) can only be admitted in TVETs. Universities often have Higher certificate qualifications which are only a year duration. More often than not, you cannot get permanent employment with a certificate. TVETs are the best, the qualification duration may be as long as four years and you will be covered by NSFAS and there are some bursary opportunities for TVETs.
