Just wanted to share a recent discovery of mine - Chinese calligraphy scroll. You just use water and a paint brush. The black marks disappear as it dries and it is completely reuseable. My reluctant mark marker at home loved this! Thought it would be great for the classroom too ππΌ
Total bargain at Β£5.89. This is the one I bought- https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/383616290354
Love this finger aerobics video. Would be great to share with the whole class or on an iPad before a writing activity with a group! ππΌ

It's important that we acknowledge parents feelings when our new children start school in September. It can be a huge transition for them too...

Busy in my new role as a mum, but wanted to share some Christmassy ideas from last year, including the Elf on the Shelf and Santa's workshop role play.
Check out the blog post here ----> http://rockmyclassroom.com/tag/santas-workshop-role-play/
With 2 weeks to go until I'm off on maternity leave I hope you'll forgive me for the lack of posts recently!
Here is the Halloween blog I wrote last year for some inspiration over the next few weeks - http://rockmyclassroom.com/tag/halloween/
Sadly I too feel that my role is becoming increasingly data and paperwork driven. I need so much time out of class and find it so frustrating because I want to be with the children. How do you all feel?
http://www.theguardian.com/lifeandstyle/2015/jul/25/what-really-thinking-ex-teacher?CMP=share_btn_fb
What Iβm really thinking: the soon to be ex-teacher βDriven by data and every new initiative, the schoolβs bloated body of managers has lost touch with where they came fromβ
Gorgeous quote from Eyfs Matters this evening π
****Job opportunity at Rock My Classroom HQ****
I will be going off on maternity leave in the October half term, so we are looking for a fabulous teacher to come and work alongside me for the first 6 weeks of term and then take over from me for the academic year 2015-16.
It is a fab opportunity for someone wanting to dip their toes into EYFS leadership with support and guidance from me for the first half term. We can trial the EExBa baseline test together and help each other through the process. You'll then have access to all my planning etc for the rest of the year. There may even be a TLR2a available for the right person!
We are based in Mill Hill, North London and we are a friendly single form entry school with some super resources and a large outdoor space.
Please send me a private message if you're interested and I will forward you more information.
Does anyone else use numicon to teach the concept of money? I couldn't teach the concept without it and find that it really helps children to begin to understand the value of money.
I even stick it on the IWB with blutak when I'm using an online game such as this espresso one.
The bus game was left out for parents morning this week and went down a storm!
I like this one!
I didn't realise so many people were freaked out by beans. Apologies!!!
We've been having lots of messy fun this week inspired by the wonderful book that is Naughty Bus π (not so fun to clean up though - I swear I still smell of bean juice π·)
I have to say I completely understand where this teacher is coming from....
http://www.theguardian.com/teacher-network/2015/may/23/secret-teacher-support-inclusion-but-not-at-any-cost
Secret teacher: I am all for inclusion in principle, but it doesn't always work Keeping children with special educational needs in mainstream schooling can deprive them of expert care β and their classmates of a decent education
Shape description game. The children had to take turns at describing a shape to their friend, who then had to attempt to name the shape and travel along the obstacle course to fetch it. Got lots of lovely obs last week through this...

Did you know that you can now download the numicon colour coded one more/one less number line pictured here, in this blogpost - - -> http://rockmyclassroom.com/2014/10/14/nifty-numicon/
Back in October a wrote a hugely popular blogpost about how I use numicon in reception. http://rockmyclassroom.com/2014/10/14/nifty-numicon
After many many requests I've finally got round to adding downloadable numicon colour coded number lines & number cards to the blog post in PDF format...
I visited a school yesterday and loved the treasure and trash game they had set up in their water tray, so decided to magpie it. Such a great use for the million plastic balls we had in our shed!

I love how over on Twitter adapted by superhero one less activity to addition & subtraction number sentences. Great for more able children ππΌ
Just thought I'd share some maths activities I set out for my parents morning on Monday.

Did you see my indoor superhero den? Nothing too fancy, the main thing being the dark tent and selection of superhero books and torches. The children loved it!
Shooting tricky word baddies was a great way for us to assess the children's knowledge. http://rockmyclassroom.com/2015/02/24/superhero-ideas-for-the-early-years/
When the children first received a letter from the Joker saying that he had kidnapped the superhero characters they were outraged! They quickly set to designing and building traps to catch him. http://rockmyclassroom.com/2015/02/24/superhero-ideas-for-the-early-years/
The children loved making potions to deter the baddies during our superhero topic. http://rockmyclassroom.com/2015/02/24/superhero-ideas-for-the-early-years/
