RSC Anderlecht become the first Belgian Pro League side to benefit from our digital asset management and monetization services.

The addition of Anderlecht means we are now working with teams across 12 leagues around the world, with an announcement about league number 13 coming very soon!!

News broke last Friday of plans for a new breakaway league in Brazil with the club’s keen to replicate the success of the Premier League through forming their own privately run competition. Given the young talent that Brazilian teams frequently produce, the passion of the fans and the digital pe*******on amongst a social media savvy nation, there is a huge opportunity for the teams to create a successful product that will appeal to fans and sponsors alike.

The much-anticipated UEFA Euro 2020 tournament finally kicked off last Friday, giving fans the on-pitch excitement they have been craving and sponsors the opportunity to activate their investment.

It has been 5 years since the last Euros and much has changed in the world since then. We spoke to sponsorship expert - and new Horizm Advisory Board member – Ricardo Fort, who oversaw Coca-Cola’s relationships with the likes of the Olympics (IOC), FIFA and UEFA about the changing expectations of brands, in the new digital age, around the sponsorship of major sports events.

In the interview, Ricardo discusses how brands are looking beyond the sport itself, to ensure that wider societal issues are part of the conversation and also highlights the growing importance of non-live consumption.

The MLB’s franchises boast a collective social audience of 118M across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter and generated an average value per fan of $0.06 in Q1, although this value will have been affected by the league being in its off-season, .

The top 5 teams in the MLB, in terms of value per fan, were San Diego Padres ($0.18), New York Mets ($0.15), Los Angeles Dodgers ($0.13), Milwaukee Brewers ($0.10), Chicago White Sox ($0.09).

The NHL’s franchises collectively boast an audience of over 73m across Facebook, Instagram and twitter - the smallest of the major US Sports leagues - but generated an average value per fan across these channels of $0.17 in Q1 this year, the highest of all the world’s major sports leagues.

The leading team by value per fan was Washington Capitals’s whose total of $0.36.of was more than twice the league average.

With a total audience of 134M, the Ligue 1 Uber Eats clubs generated an average value of €0,08 per fan in the first quarter of the year.
The 5 top clubs in Ligue 1 in terms of value per fan are LOSC (€0,16), Stade Rennais F.C. (€0,14), Olympique Lyonnais - OL (€0,12), AS Saint- Etienne (€0,12) and FC Girondins de Bordeaux (€0,11).

The Lega Serie A has a collective social audience of 223M across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter with their teams generating an average value per fan of €0,11 in Q1.

The 5 top Serie A clubs in terms of value per fan were Atalanta Bergamasca Calcio (€0,31), S.S. Lazio (€0,21), Cagliari Calcio (€0,19), Inter (€0,17) and SSC Napoli (€0,13).

The NFL’s franchises collectively boast an audience of over 194m across Facebook, Instagram and twitter and generated an average value per fan across these channels of $0.12 in Q1 this year. In terms of performance per post the franchises boasted an impressive ,quality index score of 99.5%.

The top 5 NFL clubs in terms of value per fan were Tampa Bay Buccaneers ($0.61), Buffalo Bills ($0.40), Kansas City Chiefs ($0.27), Green Bay Packers ($0.23) and New Orleans Saints ($0.22).

Tampa Bay’s score, more than five times the league average can be in part be explained by their Super Bowl win during the quarter.

The NBA’s collective social audience of 358M across Facebook, Instagram and Twitter, is the highest of the major US sports leagues, with their franchises generating average value per fan of $0.13.

The top 5 teams n the NBA, in terms of value per fan, were Brooklyn Nets ($0.39 - more than three times the league average), Denver Nuggets ($0.28), Philadelphia 76ers($0.23) Milwaukee Bucks ($0.21), Charlotte Hornets ($0.21).

Collectively the teams of the Premier League have the biggest social audience of all the leagues in world sport with a combined following of 565m. In Q1 2021 the league’s teams generated a average value per fan of €0.15. 💰📈

The 5 clubs generating the highest average value per fan were Sheffield United, Leeds United, Manchester United, West Ham United and Liverpool FC.

The top ranked club, Sheffield United, was able to generate almost twice the league average.

With a total audience of 537M, LaLiga clubs generated an average value of €0.10 per fan in the first quarter of the year. The top 5 clubs in LaLiga in terms of value per fan are Athletic Club (€0.35), Real Beltis (€0.21), Real Sociedade (€0.17), RC Celta (€0.16) and Sevilla FC (€0.15).

The Spanish club that stood out the most, with three times the league average was Athletic Club Bilbao.

With enjoying growing youth interest on the back of the hugely popular Drive to Survive series, and fans kept away due to COVID, the importance of social media for teams to engage with fans, new and old, has never been greater. 🏆🏎
Ahead of the weekend’s Grand Prix we took a look at the social reach of drivers compared with their teams across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube. Our analysis showsthat:
- 80% of teams have greater reach than their top driver
- Lewis Hamilton’s reach of 33m is 10m more than the and almost as big as all the other top drivers reach combined showing how important he is for the sport’s popularity
- Fandom takes time to build –despite the emergence of a new, exciting generation of drivers like Verstappen, Leclerc and Stroll, the older more experienced drivers like Alonso and Ricciardo have a bigger social audience
- Strength of the Schumacher name - Although a rookie driver, in employing Mick Schumacher, have recruited a social media audience as big as their own!

With the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League India (IPL) getting underway tomorrow, we’ve taken a look at the role of digital in The Globalization of T20 Cricket, focusing on the social audience of the IPL; how it compares to other major sporting competitions and what it’s market share says about the game’s future growth.
Key findings:
🏅 IPL ranked 5th in our sporting league comparison, ahead of major US sports leagues and historic tournaments in tennis and golf
🏏 56m – the combined audience of the T20 leagues around the world, a across Facebook, Instagram, Twitter and YouTube.
📊 IPL alone accounts for 57.7%
