My herby sourdough bread with rosemary, lavender, sage and oregano harvested from our garden.

I think I’ve finally figured out a recipe that makes a soft and fluffy sourdough and now I can’t stop making it. 🤤

Sourdough…a crusty, rustic kind of love.

🖤💙💚🧡💛🤍

This quilt was so much fun to make. It’s so scrappy that you have to step away to really see the Bear Paw pattern going on but it’s just as fun to look at up close so you can really see all the cute prints. If I calculated correctly, there are 1,170 2.5 inch squares I cut for this one. 😅 I chose a RK Mammoth Flannel in charcoal plaid for the backing. I’m thing this would make the perfect camping quilt. Now I’ve got to find time to baste this bad boy and quilt it. I think machine quilting for a great will be best since hand quilting stitches would probably get lost in all the busy-ness of it all. What do you think? And should I match the Bo in thread to the backing fabric or have a color that would pop? I get lost in all these choices 🤣

It was a busy day in our kitchen making homemade pasta, sourdough breadsticks and pie crusts. Being a homeschooling mom of 4, I’m in the kitchen almost all day cooking for these hungry rascals and when I involve them in cooking, they get so excited.

Do you have an early memory of being in the kitchen and helping cook or bake?

One of my earliest memories is when I helped my mom make chocolate chip cookies. I know I was pretty young because we still lived in our first house which we moved out of when I was 5. It was a very stormy day but we were warm and happy baking inside and when the cookies were ready, we ate them snuggled on the couch watching Sleeping Beauty. Pure magic!

Don’t get me wrong, there were a lot of dark times in my childhood but it’s almost miraculous how the happy memories shine through and last throughout the years. 🩶

Another EPP block…this time from the by I love this one for its generously sized hexi center which is great for showcasing cute prints.

I’ve been trying out these EPP blocks to see if I’m up for hand stitching my son’s entire quilt top. We will have to see.

I decided to write down some tips that have made the process way more enjoyable and easier on the hands. Of course, I’m still learning, and maybe these tips aren’t for everyone but it’s just what works for me. 🤓

Tip #1 Don’t baste your fabric too tightly around the template. Leaving a very tiny gap between the paper and the fabric at the fold will give you a just enough space between to catch the fabric and miss the paper. I learned this the hard way and my hands were so sore for days after basting too tightly.

Tip #2 Using a smaller gauge needle and thread than you would if you were hand-quilting or embroidering thicker layers of fabric make the process a little easier and the stitching is less noticeable.

Tip #3 using a shorter length of thread reduces the how often you will catch it on corners and edges of the other sewn pieces.

Tip #4 Cutting your fabric pieces big enough makes it easier to fold over the templates and ensures you won’t have any gaps in your piecing.

Happy sewing!

A little English Paper Piecing with the and some scraps.

I tend to go back and forth with my favorite crafts and hobbies and right now a little slow stitching is food for my soul. I’m still working on hand quilting my daughter’s birthday quilt and I only have a few more blocks to go so I know I can finish it in time but I needed a little switch up.

I love how portable EPP is and that I can take it outside when my kids are playing. Plus, they’ve been inspired to learn which is an added bonus, of course! They’re granny-crafters in training. 😆 👵🏼 🧵 🪡
