August Connections | Here are some highlights from our latest newsletter. On July 12, 2024, PA Governor Josh Shapiro announced the state budget for the 2024-2025 fiscal year. This budget marks a significant milestone in RHD’s ongoing efforts to provide comprehensive support to individuals with intellectual disabilities and autism in Pennsylvania. In 2015, Christopher Reyes found the help he needed thanks to his family's dedication to finding the right support program, leading them to RHD and Shining Through. This transition was more than just a change in residence; it was the start of a new chapter in his life, filled with independence and personal growth. This summer, RHD’s Center for Creative Works (CCW) has launched the Art Hub, a vibrant pop-up shop, gallery, and studio space at 3425 Walnut Street on the University of Pennsylvania's campus. Meet talented CCW artists working on special projects, explore unique art exhibitions, and shop a variety of creative products. RHD’s New Orleans Mobile Intervention Crisis Unit (MCIU) is garnering attention during WNBA Indiana Fever games! Catch their new commercial airing nationally tonight during the game on ESPN2 at 7:30 p.m. ET. Then, stay tuned to watch the Fever and their number one draft pick Caitlin Clark in action as they take on the Connecticut Sun. Additional airings are scheduled during games on May 20th, June 30th, July 2nd, July 14th, and July 17th on ESPN. The MCIU offers rapid, mobile response to individuals in behavioral health crises, meeting them face-to-face in the community. This December, join RHD to celebrate Universal Human Rights Month! Human rights are at the core of RHD’s values and mission. RHD’s co-founder and first CEO, Bob Fishman, championed this belief. He shared, “You’ve walked into a garden (now called RHD) in which we’ve said, ‘treat everyone else as though they have the value to be in our garden.’ And we’ve continued to grow and expand with that philosophy. And we do say to other people, there is a condition: you need to let others who look different than you, who feel differently than you, and who believe different things come into the garden with you. We have not created a garden in which we lock the doors. It’s a garden in which we agree that anyone who wants to help us plant and share can come in.” Every individual deserves to feel safe and share their beliefs in environments with mutual respect.
