From design to transformation! These photos showcase the stunning results for a client who experienced my Garden Design Lite Service.
They completed a detailed online form to kickstart the process, sharing their vision and preferences.
Provided measurements and photos to give me a clear sense of the space and its potential.
We had a video call to review the information, discuss their aspirations, and ensure every detail was aligned with their dream garden.
I created three unique concept designs, each tailored to reflect their brief and style.
They chose their favourite design, which best captured the essence of their vision.
The client reached out to several landscapers to explore the finer details and gather quotes for the project
Abberley Landscapes worked closely with the client to select the perfect materials and fine-tune the design on-site.
The design was brought to life! With careful planning and expert ex*****on, their dream garden became a stunning reality.
This service is perfect for smaller gardens with straightforward boundaries, where you're comfortable starting with a sketch and collaborating with landscapers to fine-tune the details. Although I didn't visit the garden in person, by gathering the necessary information, understanding the client's vision, and building rapport—even through video—this is the outcome that can be achieved.
If this sounds like the perfect fit for your needs, drop me an email to get started.

Another design built by Abberley Landscapes. This garden is only 4m by 10m but looks much bigger now, I divided up the space; removed the lawn (which is sometimes a waste of space... controversial!), and added some different heights and levels. Some planting and a small tree will being it all to life... literally.
Contrasting headlines about butterflies today... Some rare ones thriving but overall the numbers are declining. The difference.... habitat. Provide the home and food that they need and they will be happy, breed and multiply.
If you want to encourage butterflies in your garden go out and buy a few of these suggestions and shove them in... in pots, in the ground, raised beds... They will come back every year and look good as well. Win win.
🌷🌳 Our van full of plants! Handpicked by us from Greenfingers Cash & Carry - Trade Only for some clients.
🍂🍁 As we are coming into Autumn it's a great time to put new plants in. The soil is warm but the weather is getting wetter and this is the ideal combination for new plants to put down roots and start getting established before winter. 🍁🍂
Check out one of our designs currently being built, see photos for progress of hard standing areas and planting. Abberley Landscapes are doing a great job getting it ready for us to go back and add the finishing touches with the plants.
So what garden-related stuff were you doing this bank holiday?
This is what we were doing in our garden...creating a rustic, reclaimed brick seating area that will get the morning sun. I managed to cut a couple of half bricks for the gaps but then thought we could pop little succulent plants in and also some solar lights!
I'm not a landscaper but I know and need to know a few things about how stuff is done. And each time I do anything like this I appreciate even more, the skill and hard work necessary to do it properly!
Echinacea purpurea, commonly known as coneflower, is a beautiful and hardy perennial that blooms from midsummer to early autumn. Its vivid purple flowers with distinctive cone-shaped centers make it a favorite in gardens and meadows alike.
But there's more to this plant than just its beauty. Echinacea has a long history of medicinal use, particularly in Native American cultures. Its roots and leaves have been used to treat everything from colds and flu to snake bites and toothaches.
Today, echinacea is widely recognized for its immune-boosting properties. Studies have shown that it can reduce the severity and duration of colds and flu, as well as prevent them from occurring in the first place.
So whether you're looking to add a pop of color to your garden or boost your immune system, echinacea is definitely worth considering. Its stunning blooms and medicinal benefits make it a true standout in the world of plants.
Sometimes all clients need from us is the impetus and confidence to take the plunge with their garden, and we were excited to be invited to a BBQ at the weekend to see the progress they have made on this design.
I first designed the layout of their space 2 years ago and they have taken it forward since then, making alot of decisions themselves, working with some great landscapers and even building the Pergola and outdoor kitchen themselves which are both amazing. The styling that Claire has done really shows how you can achieve the inside/outside living vibe.
The bottom half of the garden is gradually getting completed and we can't wait to be invited back for another BBQ when it is all finished!
Shout out to The Bearded Botanist who did a great foliage themed planting scheme.
A lovely review from some great clients:
"Being complete novices when it came to the garden, we needed to find someone we could work with, trust and offer us guidance. We knew we wanted all year round colour, scent and separate areas of interest from our garden, so from our initial meeting with Jo we gave her our requirements. She went away and designed a beautiful garden for us with which we are thoroughly pleased with the end results.
We found both Jo & Lindsey to be great communicators along the way and very knowledgeable. Thank you for making our outside space a truly beautiful and enjoyable area to be in"
Another garden under construction! A few tweaks to the concepts but the brief of a more useable entertainment space with areas for veg growing is still a ✅.
GJS Landscaping
Abberley Landscapes breaking ground on another garden I've designed. This is a space within a much larger garden that was just concrete slabs. The clients wanted to make more of the area, adding seating areas and planting and to link it to the rest of the garden. Old view and CGI view!
Great work as always from Abberley Landscapes. Just needs the greenery and planting! 🌳🌷

🌸 Sanguisorba 'Pink Tanna' looking gorgeous in the late afternoon sun in a clients garden.
We added this to a border in the paddock for a naturalistic vibe alongside grasses and wildflowers. It also seems to be very resistant to rabbits! 🌸

Abberley Landscapes breaking ground in .
The design for this garden is about creating a safer space for grandchildren and having larger areas for sitting in. A sloping garden like this inevitably calls for terracing and quite alot of ground works which always looks scary initially!
It's Take Your Dog to Work Day! Shameless excuse for lots of pictures of Rusty.
This lovely field, full of wildflowers and habitats for bees, butterflies and insects is soon to be dug up and turned into a housing estate. It is ours, and many other's, local dog walking field and the thought makes us very sad.
But I appreciate people need houses to live in and things must change, which is why, when these houses go up I am determined to help as many of the new home AND GARDEN owners, bring trees, plants and greenery back into their little bit of Kinver.
I’m on a mission to help new build garden owners create amazing outside spaces… and this is exactly what’s achievable!!
Really enjoyed this joint project with Proterior
The ugly start to a design that doesn't get seen by a client, but this is part of the work that often takes the most time and brain power. This is literally scribbling until something sticks, feels right, makes sense. Then I refine another copy to make it prettier and clearer so that I can use that version to communicate ideas to a client.
Here are 3 timelapses of the first sketching process... the video cuts out all the non drawing minutes of thinking and pondering, otherwise you'd get bored!

Jo Hobbs: Garden Designer
As a child I was never quite sure what I wanted to ‘be’ or ‘do’. At school I liked art and I was quite good at it. And I liked pens…loved pens actually. I thought the idea of being a graphic designer sounded cool. And I liked those tilty drawing desks.
I also liked sport and I was quite good at that too. I could hit and chuck things a long way. I might have been brilliant at tennis except I was too nice and didn’t have a killer instinct… or the right clothes.
When I filled in one of those multiple choice careers questionnaires as a 14 year old the results said; ‘designer’ or ‘police’ or ‘librarian’ (I think everyone gets librarian).
So naturally when I went off to ‘Uni’ I chose… sport… well, Leisure Management. I enjoyed the course but the best bits were when I had to design fictional leisure centres or play areas for kids.
