Turn your radios to "The Buchanan and Seaton Show" on WVON1690 TODAY at 5 o'clock PM for a live interview with our client Vanessa Wright, Award-winning filmmaker and educator . Her documentary "Sankofa: Chicago" claimed 1st prize at last year's global Cannes film festival in France.......
Today's office: WGN Studios, doing some client PR.
8 years ago, Vanessa Wright asked me to come speak to her Talent Management class at Columbia College. Today, she is an award-winning documentary filmmaker, scoring top prize last year at Cannes film festival in France.
Her 1st place documentary "Sankofa Chicago", won over a panel of international judges in the category of Best Educational Film. It is an unflinching look at Chicago's Black and Brown communities, finding value through education & the teaching of the real history of African Americans in our schools.
It also speaks about the importance of making sure that our children are aware of their heritage and their contributions to this country, it's commerce, and it's culture, especially if we want to comprehend racism and race consciousness in America.
Today's interview with WGN's Gaynor Hall for the show "People To People" will be televised soon. PR/Marketing by .....
At age 12 I lost my father. I was in such pain that i was searching for something, anything, to dull that feeling. And I found it. Or rather it found me. I started listening to the radio every day, for hours on end, listening to the music and the lyrics and the dj's.. I then began to imitate the djs, the way they talked, their phrasing the way they seemed to touch the audience, like a relationship.
I bought myself two Radio Shack belt-drive turntables and a 4-channel mixer. I began practicing mixing records together. I had already studied my mom and dad's record collection to no end, listening to everything from Tchaikovsky to The Isley Brothers . I developed a love and a passion unlike anything I'd ever known.
In college I began DJing fraternity parties and signed up to be an on-air personality on KDVS, the campus radio station. I started working for Tower Records as a buyer, and at times held down 3 jobs. I also became a nightclub DJ, part time at first, until graduating to my first full time gig at club called California Steamship Navigation Company (Steamboat for short)
From there I began submitting mixes to KSFM 102.5, the #1 station in Sacramento at the time. Then, the program director discovered that I had voice talent as well and offered me a position in overnights as an on-air personality.
From there it was off to Los Angeles and Motown Records. Then came Capitol Records, and Tommy Boy, and Loud, and Universal, and Def Jam, and Blackground, and Warner Brothers. Working with artists like Aaliyah, Tank, Snoop Dogg,, Eric Benet, Tamia, Katy Perry, Anita Baker, Boyz II Men, Johnny Gill, and many many others. Sean Puffy Combs, Russell Simmons, Barry Hankerson, Steve Rifkin, Andre Harrell, Jeryl Busby, Berry Gordy, and other giants.
And now Twoguard, my own company. 38 years. And counting.
This past weekend, I was interviewed on "Good Day Sacramento" from my hometown. The fulfillment of a lifelong dream.
The highlight? My mother was watching. I know my father was watching too.
This weekend I'll be honored along with a group of other influential djs from the 80s and 90s.
Never give up on your dreams. Happy Monday :+) (interview link in bio)

Release last week, good or bad. We write new chapters every day. Today is another one.
It's Monday. Let's go to work!......
It's Saturday. That means "Soul Train" Saturday!......
They actually have a name for it.....
“Friendtor" Friend. And mentor.
A snap from this past Saturday at the now-historic New Edition show.
David Lombard isn't a name that will customarily come up in discussions regarding great music executives. He's quiet and unassuming, effective and creative. He's direct and brutally honest.
He's also my friend and one of my greatest mentors.
Our first meeting was "by chance", better known as God's plan. In 1989, in my hometown of Sacramento, California, I was a DJ at a nightclub called Coco Palms (DJ 24K if anyone is interested 🤣).
In what would ultimately lead me into radio, the local station KSFM 102.5 was presenting a concert by four relatively unknown ladies from Vallejo California. Four women who were "born to sing" (get it?). This was one of Envogues first live shows.. And their manager: David Lombard (who also happened to manage Tony Toni Tone & their super-producers Denzel Foster & Thomas McElroy).
We spoke and exchanged pleasantries. It didn't last long and he went about his business as I went about mine. But I knew who he was. I knew how to read record cover jackets. I also knew he was doing what I wanted to do do, work with talent. I knew he was going to be immensely successful and I wasn't wrong. He went on to work with work with Jasmine Guy, Tevin Campbell, and Vanessa Williams as well as legendary executives like Quincy Jones, Ed Eckstine, Don Cornelius, and Solar Records Dick Griffey to name a few.
And I just kept watching.
Fast-forward 30 years. A one-year deal with City Winery. Jane Eugene and Loose Ends are scheduled to perform. From out of the dressing room comes.....David Lombard. We laughed, greeted each other, and pick up as though it had been 30 days, not 30 years. I'd worked with more artists than I can even remember, and he was now managing the careers of Kenny Latimore, Rahsaan Patterson, Loose Ends, and more.
And now co-managing New Edition with the legendary Brooke Payne.
He's my friend, mentor, and one of my idols. A very special person. Yet he considers me the "gifted one".
Thats what friends do. Real ones, anyway.
More to come soon..........

In 2022, there needs to be a new standard for aspiring artists. The industry is struggling because of the lack of experience, knowledge, proper guidance, patience, and quality control. Moreover, artists are trying to manage themselves, take direction from the wrong people, or both. It is vital however to lead off with the proper attitude and faith in the proper attitude and faith in the process. music is a perfect example of this Please pay attention. Happy Monday......
