We had an incredible time yesterday with Plastic Surgery Foundation Visiting Professor Dr. Mark Urata, Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at ! Dr. Urata is one of the foremost experts in complex craniofacial reconstruction, a leader in the field of , and an amazing educator for residents, fellows, and medical students alike. It was a fantastic experience learning from his wealth of knowledge and we appreciate his support of our program!

Thanks to our industry partner Bard for their support and Bard Education Coordinator Lisa Motyka for organizing this Abdominal Wall Reconstruction meeting at the Columbia Irving Medical Center campus today: “Plastic Surgery Symposium for Advanced Surgeons”. Always great hosting our two Penn colleagues, Drs. Fischer and Kovach - we’re always learning from their outstanding presentations. Also great having Dr. Hani Sbitany on the faculty - his first trip back to VP&S since his graduation from medical school! We’re excited he’s returning to NYC at Mt. This year marks the 80th anniversary of plastic surgical education at (and the first plastic surgery residency program in the nation). As a celebration of our legacy in , this year we are ecstatic to introduce David M. Otterburn, MD as the new Program Director of our plastic and reconstructive surgery residency! As an Associate Professor of Surgery and Associate Program Director for the residency, Dr. Otterburn has proven to be one of the greatest educators and resident advocates has to offer. We couldn’t be more excited for the future of our residency program and we look forward to another 80 years of excellence in surgical education!

Chief resident James Lee, MD expertly demonstrates proper injection technique for his fellow residents. Our resident aesthetic clinic at allows residents at all levels to treat their own patients under the supervision of our wonderful and talented faculty. Opportunities like this prepare the next generation of plastic surgeons to be confident and competent physicians!
