Varsity softball and junior varsity Softball fields were rolled in early June. The arc of the infields, where grass and rock meet, were cut. New red rock was added to both fields. Thank you to Kirby VanDeWalker and Jake Wieme for their hard work in rolling the fields, cutting the lines, and adding the new red rock. Thanks to Jon Kerr and Kerr Trucking for use of the roller. Thanks to Jesse Steberg and Zumbro Valley Landscaping for donating eight yards of red rock and use of equipment. Also, huge thanks to Brad, Monty, and Cobus of the City of Wanamingo for trimming the trees along the varsity baseball field outfield.

On April 13th banners were installed at the Varsity Baseball Field. A large KW Knights Baseball banner was installed along the left field foul fence line. The banner was installed by Kirby VanDeWalker, Ashley VanDeWalker, Liza VanDeWalker, Lexi VanDeWalker, Jack Buelke, and Larry VanDeWalker. There were also four seniors banners installed for #6 Butch Lindell, #11 Mason Torgeson, #15 Colton Steberg, and #34 Will Van Epps. The seniors banner was installed by Jesse Steberg. The KW Knights Baseball banner was paid for by the KW Booster Club and the Memorial Field Fund. Parents of the seniors paid for their own banners and get to keep them after the season. Thank you to all those involved!

The varsity baseball field spring clean-up day took place on Saturday April 6th. The work included mound preparation, home plate area preparation, mowed the field, drug the field, and placed dugout fence pads back on. A big thanks to Kirby VanDeWalker, Larry VanDeWalker, Brad Kennedy, Gunner Kennedy, and Owen Craig. The mound and home plate area clay topper cost roughly $1,000 that was shared between the Memorial Field Fund and KW Athletic Boosters. A big thanks to Zumbro Valley Landscaping for use of equipment for the spring clean-up.

New spectator benches were constructed to be place along the varsity baseball field 1st base line. The benches were constructed by Kirby VanDeWalker and Jon Darland. The materials were purchased by the Memorial Ballfield Fund for roughly $355.90 from Arrow Building Center out of Red Wing.

The Varsity Baseball Field received additional work this fall. The baseball lines were filled in with aggregate and the final mowing was completed for the year. Thank you to Kirby VanDeWalker, Jake Wieme, and Larry VanDeWalker for volunteering. Thank you to Zumbro Valley Landscaping for use of hand tools for the work. The crushed rock was extended behind Varsity Baseball Field backstop and bleachers. The bleachers were put back into place. Thank you to Brad Kennedy and Larry VanDeWalker for volunteering for this work. Thank you to the City of Wanamingo for use of the skid loader.

The Junior Varsity Baseball Field has a scoreboard! The old varsity baseball field scoreboard has been repurposed, given a facelift, and installed at the Junior Varsity Baseball Field. A big thank you to J & S Welding for metal work, Roosen Painting for providing a facelift to the repurposed score board, D & S Signs for new vinyl letters, and Zumbro Valley Landscaping for installation. Roosen donated labor, discounted pricing from D & S Signs, while Zumbro Valley Landscaping donated a large portion of labor costs. Shane Electric will be wiring up the score board in the near future. The total cost of the project is expected to be $8,059. We want to give a shout out to the Wanamingo Fire Relief Association for $2,000, Syverson Livestock Brokers for $2,000, Wanamingo Lions Club for $1,525, KW Athletic Boosters Club for $600, and Memorial Field Fund for the remainder of the donations for the project. The project was fully paid for by donations and in-kind contributions.

Fall improvements were recently completed at the varsity baseball and softball fields. Thank you to all those involved! Bruce Prigge and Larry VanDeWalker painted the varsity baseball field dugouts. Kirby VanDeWalker, Larry VanDeWalker and Jack Beulke completed infield edging work on the varsity baseball field. B & N Construction completed concrete work on the varsity softball field dugouts. This concrete work helps with drainage in the dugouts. Thatching, aeration, and over-seeding work was completed by Kirby VanDeWalker, Brad Kennedy, & Larry VanDeWalker on the varsity baseball field. Thank you to JMC Enterprises and Zumbro Valley Landscaping for use of equipment for the fall thatching, aeration, and over-seeding work.

The varsity baseball field press box and concession stand asphalt roof was replaced with red steel. Thank you to L & M Construction (Josh Lerfald, Greg Mills, Angie Mills, Brad Anfinson, Andrew Anfinson) along with Dillon Craig, and Carrie Anderson. Kirby VanDeWalker and Larry VandDeWalker removed the asphalt shingles in preparation for the new red steel. Thank you to Zumbro Valley Landscaping for use of the truck and dump box during the demolition process. The cost for the materials was $3,500, paid for by the Memorial Field Fund.

The new Varsity Boys Baseball Scoreboard was installed by Scenic Sign Corp the week of August 7th-11th. We want to thank all of the donors including the Wanamingo Fire Relief Association, Ben Olson Realty, Scheels Rochester, Security State Bank of Wanamingo, Scott Flom with Federated Insurance, Anfinson Family Farms, Kenyon American Legion Post 78, KW Athletic Booster Club, Ryan Overby Trucking. We also would like to thank Tyler Ryan and Knobelsdorf Electric for donating materials and labor to disconnect the old scoreboard and connect the new scoreboard. The estimated cost of the project was $50,200 paid for entirely by donations and in-kind contributions.

Thank you to Shane Electric and volunteers that helped with the latest ball field improvement project. Tom Shane, Scott Shane , Joel Onstad, and Elijah Onstad buried and rewired the electrical line that was on top of the existing fence at the varsity baseball field. Shane Electric donated the trenching and labor toward the project while the Memorial Ball Field Fund will be paying for the materials. Caleb Langer and Kirby VanDeWalker lowered 70 feet of the chain link fence from 8' to 4' to improve fan viewing area along the 1st bast foul line at the varsity baseball field. The red fence guard cap was then installed on top the lowered fence for safety purposes. The capping cost $188 and paid by the Memorial Ball Field Fund. There was no cost for lowering the fence. A big thanks to Brad Kennedy for spraying the varsity baseball outfield to kill strands of weeds not controlled by spring spray. The spray was $180 paid for by the Memorial Ball Field Fund. Next week the new varsity baseball score board is scheduled to be installed. The entire varsity baseball field will be over seeded this fall and paid for by the Memorial Ball Field Fund.

On Wednesday March 29th A-Town Mounds & Grounds installed dugout fences at the Boys Varsity Baseball Field. The dugout fences were placed upon the concrete slabs that were installed by B & N Construction last fall. These safety improvements cost a combined $10,650 ($2,800 for concrete and $7,850 for the fences). The Memorial Fund contributed $7,800 (Pasta Supper, C-Stand, and Lions Popcorn wagon) toward the project. The KW Booster Club contributed $2,850 toward the project. Thank you to all that were involved with raising funds and work toward the safety improvements.

Thank you to volunteers, Brad Kennedy, Monty Schaefer, Larry VanDeWalker, and Kirby VanDeWalker for installing the new backstop net at the boys varsity baseball field. The volunteers spent over 24 combined hours on the project. The work included installing the 50' x 13' net with roughly 80 new carabiner's, 114 zip ties, and new cables on the sides to hold the net in place. The Kenyon-Wanamingo School District paid for the net ($1,000) and the KW Booster club paid for the remaining hardware ($460). Thank you to Busby's for the discounted price on the caribiners.

The girls varsity softball field dugouts and press box had new red steel roofs installed. The roughly $3,000 in material for the roofs were paid for by the Memorial Field Ball Field Fund (through the Wanamingo Community Fund). The funds are generated through annual Paste Supper, JB's Meat Raffles, Concession Stand, Lions Popcorn Stand, and other private donations. Thank you to volunteers - L & M Construction crew (Josh Lerfald and Greg Mills, Brady Anfinson, Andrew Anfinson), Head KW Softball Coach Carrie Anderson, Head KW Baseball Coach Kirby VanDeWalker, Dylan Craig, Larry VanDeWalker, and Brad Kennedy. Thanks to Zumbro Valley Landscaping for the use of their dump trailer and pickup for the demolition of the old asphalt shingle roofs. Thank you to Brad Hegseth for measuring and ordering all the materials from ABC Arrow out of Red Wing.

The varsity baseball field dugouts received five foot concrete sidewalk aprons in front of them this week. These sidewalks and eventual fencing are safety improvements for those in the dugouts will be paid for by the Memorial Field Fund (concession stand, pasta supper, and meat raffles), Wanamingo Lions Popcorn Wagon proceeds, and individual donations. The estimate price for the safety improvements is roughly $10,000. The preparation work and installation of nine yards of concrete were completed by B & N Construction. The new varsity girls softball field scoreboard was installed today. This is a Daktronics sign installed by Scenic Sign Corporation. Shane Electric completed the electric wiring. The total price tag for the improvements project was roughly $20,000. The scoreboard was funded by the Wanamingo Fire Relief Association gambling fund and the KW Athletic Booster Club. A big thanks to Josh Schaefer, Marshall Flom, and the KW Buildings a Ground Staff on their hard work to get the project completed. The old scoreboard will go into storage for potential future use.

Spring is here and so is baseball! A new sound system was installed at the varsity baseball field. The $3,000 sound system was previously purchased by the baseball boosters before disbanding, with anticipation of future installation. The varsity baseball field received spring maintenance that included packing the clay on the pitchers mound and added field dirt conditioner to the aggregate infield ($1,200). Volunteers also made repairs to the fence/netting at Junior Varsity Baseball field. Routine maintenance was also completed to all of the ballfields.

We received some great news from the Twins organization today.
"On behalf of the Twins Community Fund Board of Directors, and the entire Minnesota Twins Baseball Club, I am pleased to inform you that Kenyon-Wanamingo Community Education has been awarded a Junior Twins Equipment Kit donation!"
So excited for this opportunity to receive new equipment to keep our kids safe and get more kids on the field learning the game. It's going to be a great summer!
This donation kit includes gloves, so if you have a child that wants to play T-ball, Coach Pitch or summer softball and you are in need, please contact Community Ed.
