NanoStitch Lab
Welcome to NanoStitch Lab, where unique hand-dyed yarns are created by two “scientists” mad about color. At least until we suited up.
We are crafters, knitters, crocheters, spinners, weavers and hand dyers (but not actual trained scientists). Most importantly we are two friends who love yarn and have always been drawn to all of the beautiful hand-painted yarns. In the summer of 2014 we decided to try dyeing our own yarn. With ugly crock-pots found at Goodwill lining a table outside it looked like we were hosting the world’s craz

One of the most beloved colors in our line up is Chien-Shiung Wu. This colorway was inspired by the “First Lady of Physics”. Dr. Wu was a Chinese American physicist who was an advocate for women in science.
During the Manhattan Project, she worked at Columbia University, helping develop the process for separating uranium metal into U-235 and U-238 isotopes by gaseous diffusion. She also developed improved Geiger counters for measuring nuclear radiation levels. She is believed to have been the only Chinese person to have worked on the Manhattan Project. Her crucial contribution to particle physics was, however, ignored by the Nobel Prize committee when it awarded the 1957 Nobel Prize in Physics.
In 1964, she spoke out against gender discrimination at a symposium at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. “I wonder,” she asked her audience, “whether the tiny atoms and nuclei, or the mathematical symbols, or the DNA molecules have any preference for either masculine or feminine treatment”
Find this colorway and many more inspired by women in STEM at Feb 15-18.

October’s limited edition color Supernova 1987A 🌟Available now on DK and fi*****ng at also available as dyed to order on our website.
Available now at October’s color: Supernova 1987A 🌟🌟
We were inspired by this image of Supernova 1987A taken by the Hubble Telescope. This titanic supernova was created by a star that exploded about 160,000 years ago. It is the nearest supernova explosion observed in hundreds of years and offers astronomers a great opportunity to study the phases before, during, and after the death of a star.
🌟Check out our website for dyed to order listings of this month’s color.
This Saturday there is a party going on at 🎉🎉 Join us from 10-2pm and grab a skein of this limited edition birthday colorway.

Another look at August’s color. These limited edition skeins are available now at and on our website.
It’s time for August’s color: WISE or NASA's Wide-field Infrared Survey Explorer. 🌟🌟
WISE launched in 2009, repeatedly mapping the entire sky in infrared light. Its catalog of three-quarters of a billion objects led to the discovery of the coolest and nearest brown dwarfs — objects intermediate between stars and planets — and of the most luminous galaxies in the Universe. Infrared light has been translated into colors we see with our eyes, such that the shortest wavelengths are blue and the longest are red.
Grab one of these limited edition skeins now at or on our website nanostitchlab.com 🔭💫

Our Story
We are Angela and Heather, two friends who love the fiber arts and have always been drawn to the beauty of hand-painted yarns. When we began dyeing our own yarn, we joked that we looked like mad scientists decked out in plastic aprons, heat-proof gloves and respirators. But most importantly: once we started mixing dye and creating our own colors, we FELT like mad scientists. And thus, NanoStitch Lab was born.
We find inspiration for our colorways in all aspects of science: astronomy, biology, chemistry, geology and more. We are inspired by and celebrate women in STEM. We have a whole line of tonal colorways named after female scientists, like Annie J. Easley who was an actual rocket scientist and Rosalind Franklin whose work led to the discovery of double helix DNA though two men received the Nobel Prize for the discovery.
We love to experiment with color: creating new colors, new color pairings, and finding that perfect speckled pop of color. We dye colors that inspire us. We dye colors that we want to work with and eventually wear. We dye colors that we love and we hope you do too.
