The Mary Garden💙
The Mary Garden honors Our Lady, and provides a beautiful welcome to the Shanley-Sacred Heart campus. It also serves as a gathering place for prayer and reflection. It is home to some wildlife and is blooming beautifully, too.
AND the garden is getting a major refresh (new arbor, pavers, edging, mulch, plants, etc.) this summer thanks to Shanley Athletic Club - SAC, as well as Custom Lawns of Fargo and many volunteers!
If you would like to donate to this project, visit https://jp2schools.ejoinme.org/marygarden
track update: it's turning red!
As Los Angeles schools ban cell phones, Shanley principal reflects on first year of similar policy During the past school year, Shanley High School made students shut off phones and keep them stored away during the school day. Administrators are pleased with the results.
St. John Paul II Catholic Schools is delighted to announce the hiring of Mrs. Chelsey Bosch as the new principal of Holy Spirit Elementary School in North Fargo.
Mrs. Bosch has taught 4th and 5th Grades for the past eight years at Trinity Elementary School in West Fargo. During that time, she also served on curriculum committees and leadership teams, mentored new teachers, and most recently completed the North Dakota Teacher Support System’s “Instructional Coaches Academy.” Mrs. Bosch earned her Master's Degree in Elementary Administration from the University of Mary.
JPII President Mike Hagstrom said, “Mrs. Bosch will bring an experienced, compassionate, energetic, and faith-Silled approach to her new leadership role in providing educational excellence to the students and families of Holy Spirit Elementary School.”
Principal Bosch emphasized that “The faith, traditions, community, and culture of Holy Spirit Elementary School along with the partnership of Holy Spirit Parish are something to be admired. I am thrilled to be joining such a dedicated staff and community that make Holy Spirit Elementary School a great place for students to learn and grow not only academically but also in their faith journey, growing closer to God.”
A native of Beulah, North Dakota, Mrs. Bosch earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Elementary Education from Dickinson State University. Prior to her teaching role at Trinity Elementary School, she taught in several public and non-public schools in North Dakota. Her husband is Lelan Bosch.
Mrs. Bosch will begin her first official day as principal on July 31. But she will begin some orientation, planning, and preparation in the coming weeks to ensure a smooth leadership transition at the school.
Welcome to Holy Spirit Mrs. Bosch!❤️

Our Teacher Feature this week is Sara Kriefall, who is in her 3rd year as Catechist at Nativity!
"Before graduating college, I felt a strong desire to be a part of a Catholic School community. I wanted the opportunity to share our rich Catholic faith to students as they begin their faith journey. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd has given an opportunity to make the faith available, in a real and tangible way, for our youngest of learners, and I am so grateful to be a part of that."
Our Patron, St. John Paul II, was born “Karol Wojtyla” on May 18, 1920, in Wadowice, Poland.
Happy 104th birthday, St. John Paul II, and thank you for your witness and work to make Jesus Christ—the Way and the Truth and the Life—proclaimed, known, and followed.
St. John Paul II: “Pray for us.”

Join us in celebrating Mr. Kotrba and Mrs. Storandt who are pursuing a new direction in their life. Thank you both for your many years of service to our JPII Community!
John devoted himself to training boys how to make a living and teaching them to love God. He believed that, instead of threatening young people with punishments, it was more effective to show them they were and are trusted. His foresight prevented many young men from falling into evil ways and brought them instead to embrace virtue and holiness.
Congratulations and prayerful best wishes to Fr. James Meyer as he celebrates his 30th anniversary of ordination to the priesthood.
Our Teacher Feature this week is Brian Geffre, who is in his 28th year teaching at Shanley!
"I felt a real calling to be a teacher. I love to talk philosophy, and I feel that I can help others understand concepts, so teaching seemed to the direction to head. High schools do not (on average) have philosophy teachers, but in literature people talk about philosophical ideas all the time. Thus, I became an English teacher. However, I also had the credits in Classical Languages that it made sense to also get a teaching license in Latin also.
I was a high school and college seminarian for 4 years. Those 4 years have directed the rest of my life. The Catholic Church made sense to me, and I wanted to pass that along to others. Catholic schools seemed to be the best place to do that. I have been doing my best for 28 years, and I hope I have made a positive difference in any life that has come through Shanley.
I have had fun seeing the children of former students. It is interesting to compare the experiences of the current students to the previous generations. While I have not had any grandchildren of former students yet, I suspect that before I retire, I will see a few."
