Mother’s Day is still just another day.
Some years are special, some ya never want to relive.
Some celebrate in style, some in silence.
All are okay.
When we let comparison creep, we can give up our joy & be let down but it’s still just a day.
This year I held Z E R O expectations as I knew the guys would be in the field & even though, it was an amazing Sunday spent outside with my girls & visiting my mama.
If you had a crappy Mother’s Day, I hope today was better. 🫶🏼
The pork loin has so much power with many cut options: a whole loin, tenderloin, tenderized loins, chops, and boneless cutlets. Oh my!
The tenderized pork loins are hands down my favorite!
I love grilling up several of these tenderized pork loins at once since they cook so quickly that they are ready on the go for lunches and quick grab & go dinners.
> WHY? They cook up super fast! Because they are tenderized thin, it doesn’t take them long to reach an internal temp of 145 degrees when grilling or using an air fryer. Tenderized loins pack a high protein count, are really low in fat content, and can be cut up to put on any salad or simply tossed inside a bun (with ketchup and pickle, obviously!)
They are literally making my mouth water just thinking about them!

Because there is NO carb load, pork loins pair well with your guilty pleasure sides to balance out your meals.

I suck at coming up with side dishes, seriously a downfall in my meal planning. Thankfully some creativity hit me and I was craving a broccoli salad for some change. We had some broccoli florets, red onion, and green onion in the fridge and added some saltiness to it with some chopped bacon that I had stashed in the freezer. {TIP: when you make bacon next, cook up an extra package to chop up and store in your freezer for impromptu needs, you’ll thank yourself!}
+For the “dressing,” I combined 4 tbsp of red wine vinegar, 3 tbsp EVOO, 2 tbsp sugar, and a splash of vinegar and whisked together with some pepper > pour & toss onto salad.
>> Other side favorites are:: mac and cheese, pasta side (yes the ones in the dry pasta aisle), grilled zucchini, roasted cauliflower, roasted potatoes, cooked carrots, sweet corn, baked beans, coleslaw, salad, pasta salad

When I reflect back on how we started out as a couple…we have reallyyyy come along way as adults & as a team. I’m not going all saving face and say we never disagree or get into a heated discussion, bc we are very passionate and defensive people - that’s just not in our cards. However in those moments we hold more respect & understanding for the other one’s reasoning. It’s not just about being right or getting our way, so for that I am proud of us. 🫶🏼

Why we care?
We live where we raise our hogs and crops. We raise our family here in Iowa. Hog farming isn’t only a job, it’s a lifestyle. One that our farm family takes pride in taking care of the facilities and land for the long haul.
We want to provide a quality product because we also feed our family that same product.
Knowing that we are raising a solid protein product means that families have access to meat that is raised in the US and won’t break their bank account.
This is a shared responsibility that Iowa pork producers hold.
Seasons change, and life will move on.
This past week/weekend has been okay. Despite sick kids & filings. it created space and a slow down from the extra activities.
But this morning, its weight has taken its toll.
They are all down and out, sleep was minimal & my mood is souring.
Being a mom we understand the role of caretaking; the sleepless nights, the putting our other obligations on hold.
It’s another season in life - it often doesn’t go perfect. And that’s okay to find the moments of joy within them and roll with the punches.
Sadly, spot on topic as it was the podcast on Harvesting Her Way podcast. I may have jinxed us when I had recorded it 🙈 even though I wasn’t specifically talking about dealing with illness 🤪

Most assume they understand who they are. They don’t question how or why they see the world they way they do, they keep going with their regularly programmed life, fighting against themselves. Exhausting. 😱 {insert screaming goat, lol}

Being aware how our past experiences may be holding us back now. This is where breakthroughs happen and fulfillment is lived 🔥
➡️Consciously curiosity, leads us to an understanding of who we are, what motivates us, what safety needs we have in order to confidently move forward

Truth 💣 it’s not really about “changing” who you are.
•It’s more about UNDERSTANDING WHO you are• so you can succeed as YOU, in your own damn way.
I’d like to think of it as that step beyond “self-help/self-improvement,” being consciously curious is self empowering 👊🏼

This prayer spoke to me. I posted it in my bathroom so I could see it daily.
When I’m feeling misaligned & life is feeling heavy and hard, I check in with myself, “how is life happening FOR me?” This usually help reign in the angry clouds.
When things feel really good, I send up gratitude and recognize that I’ve stumbled upon a bright spot along His blueprint, even if it’s just momentarily 🙏🏼

I’m not going to lie, life can be freaking tough. And it can be amazing, too!
Life keeps coming in waves, emotions roll, how are you handling?

Being thyroid cancer survivor is NOT what I expected.
Let’s be real freaking honest I never “expected” to have cancer or at least not that type - wasn’t exactly on my radar, which I think most of us can agree on we never think it’ll be us.
But I what I really didn’t expect was not being able to look at myself in the hospital room mirror - for 4 days.
9 years ago today, I woke up post-op to a flood of tears to have to face the shame that what my gut intuition told me was cancer, had been confirmed with a full thyroidectomy.
Before surgery, the biopsy & ultrasounds on my thyroid gland didn’t show it was cancer - but I just knew.
I kept it to myself, hidden fear that if I didn’t admit it out loud and to my family, then maybe it wouldn’t really be and all would be well.
Well all was to be well anyways, but first I had to admit my fears that I had cancer. I had become a statistic. In my rural community, the rumor mill would beat me home from my hospital stay of, “Did you hear Dawn Kress has cancer?…” Not what you wanted to be associated with, but those things we can’t control.
But we can control
* HOW we show up
* WHO we show up as
It was then that I took control to become WHO I wanted to show up as from now on & put in the hard as f**k work, on myself. HOW my lifestyle was going to change so I didn’t end up going through this s**t again.
I pray you haven’t had to be in my cancer shoes, but I hope you show up as the person you want to see in the mirror. 💜
Let me get my megaphone out here 📣 The school nurse forgot to tell you about your super powers when she whipped out the feminine products to have…”the talk”
I think we are all scarred from “the talk” in school and those poor nurses ya just can’t look at the same way after.
But those brave ladies forgot to mention how freaking amazing you can feel about half of your cycle (okay, okay, to their defense maybe they did and I was just in utter embarrassment of the rest of what was coming out of their mouth OR sadly, they didn’t know either)
After your period, you’ll have roughly 2 weeks ~for simple calculating~ that I like to call the MASCULINE Season where your tuned up like a guy:
- energy is on🔥
- confident AF
- magnetic & smooth communicator
You aren’t crazy when you think, 🤔“WTF, happened to me? I was functioning just fine last week and now I feel unmotivated” your body’s hormones just shifted.

We get it, we know it, the menstrual phase of our cycle isn’t the most glamorous.
I highlighted the top 3 common symptoms we *I* face and what I’ve learned to “fix” them to now freaking love this week when it comes around.
1️⃣We are really tired! Yep, your body is busy doing its thing and is using more energy than in your masculine seasons. You can’t change biology from happening. I typically need an additional 1 ½ to 2 hours of sleep during menstrual.
➡️FIX: Since you know you’ll require more sleep during this week, pad in extra sleep in your schedule. (yes, you can!) Here’s how: use your phone’s sleep schedule in your alarm settings of your iPhone. It can be really difficult to squeeze more sleep time in the morning as we typically get up as late as we can anyways.
➡️Let go of the thought of getting everything done at night or staying up to catch your fav Flix series. When your sleep reminder goes off, start winding down to get to bed earlier. It takes some adjusting, but you’ll feel the benefits during the day!
➡️If its possible in your lifestyle, sneak in an afternoon nap. Even a 10 minute nap can give you a boost and get you through the rest of the day.
2️⃣You feel like you’re constantly eating like a bottomless pit! You betcha! Your body is again working hard in there and needs food for energy to do it’s thang. You’ll crave and consume extra food during this phase because of it.
➡️FIX: Fuel up on complex carbs like roasted red potatoes, sauted broccoli and cauliflower, cooked carrots are some examples.
➡️You’ll naturally be drawn to warmer foods so pair these up for a win-win by staying fuller longer with these slow burning complex carbs.
➡️It also spices up cooking so you don’t feel like you are making the same thing every week.

Your menstrual cycle is your friend. 👯♀️
When we appreciate how our body functions during the menstrual phase - we can learn to LOVE this phase!
1. Flip the perspective on what you’ve been told you “should” feel about your menstrual phase.
❌It doesn’t have to be as bad as we make it out to be. Yes, planning for bleeding can be an inconvenience but there are so many benefits!
💡Your brain is perfectly aligned during this phase so brainstorming ideas come more naturally
2. Track how you feel during your period.
😑How is your mood? What did you enjoy the most? How did you spend your time - did the fuel you or drain you?
📆Plan ahead for this phase next month to reduce activities that don’t light you up & do more of what did!
🍂Can we plan around harvest activities- ummm…we sure AF can! 💪🏼When we have more on our plates - reduce the “extras” that don’t need to take place right now. Be honest with what can actually wait or fall to the side when your focus is needed elsewhere. There are more you can let go of than you think!
3. Typical “symptoms” during this phase:
🫣Moody & emotional IF overloaded with more than you have energy for. Being stretched thin during this time can create excess stress in misalignment.
🗓️This is a great week to plan for more white space to rest & recharge.
📉Can be extra critical - this is the perfect week to analyze what’s working & what’s not in life!

Rather, I feel accomplished for checking it off my list. Now I recall how good it feels to make time to read (now that our ball nights are coming to an end). And I’m picking up the next one and simply reading a few pages at night as a way to wind down.

So when we have this happen to our overall wellness. Do me a favor and let it go! You a worthy of so many great things but never in the definition of life so we have to be perfect and mail everything all the time.
