Doing a little studio time in Nashville, getting in the kitchen and cooking up some new music beans with my brother Dominic Billett. Full tournament mode. Going a bit of a different direction with some new stuff, real good. Will tell ya more when I know what to tell ya.

I started my birthday by waking up with a rare insomnia at 3:30am. I showered, shaved, put on headphones, and went out for a walk along the beach on Long Island’s North Fork. The bunny rabbits scattered in the dark yard as I rounded the corner (sorry to disturb!). The seagulls were still sleeping. The moon presided over the shoreline as the waves lapped at the colored rocks along the beach. The sun came up with its measured pace, the gradual illumination like waking up slowly next to a lover. I know what happened last year, I am not sure what will come of this one. But these moments are good and holy. Thank you for pulling for me.

Seventeen years in memoriam.

Said goodbye to my Poppy last week. It was wonderful to hear so many stories about the man he was with his friends. He and my MeMe played such important parts in bringing me up, something you never appreciate in a timely manner. I’m thankful he’s no longer confused, uncomfortable, or in pain. Appreciate everyone who’s reached out to check in. Here’s to the man!

Some of you may know that I have written and recorded some songs over the last 15 years. I will be playing some of them live in New York City on April 30 at The Scratcher in East Village. Caroline Kuhn will start the night. It will be a gathering of “fans”, “friends”, and probably “some folks I went on a couple dates with” assembling for a kind of public ritual sacrifice. This tour opening for American Aquarium is going great. I have made some new friends, many of whom I hope to see again next time. What a lovely life to get to live sometimes. I am thankful.

Today, I’m headed to Glasgow, Scotland where I’ll be, in the words of Tom Waits, “lookin’ for the heart of Saturday night.” 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Whoa. What a wild and wonderful run with Paul Cauthen and his crew this last few days through Montana. Flights missed, snowy mountains traversed, big sky observed, moments shared, laughter effused, and a 25-hour drive taken straight through.
