Back in the day, Stallone was a struggling actor in every definition. At some point, he got so broke that he stole his wife’s jewelry and sold it. Things got so bad that he even ended up homeless. Yes, he slept at the New York bus station for 3 days. Unable to pay rent or afford food. His lowest point came when he tried to sell his dog at the liquor store to any stranger. He didn’t have money to feed the dog anymore. He sold it at $25 only. He says he walked away crying.

Two weeks later, he saw a boxing match between Mohammed Ali and Chuck Wepner and that match gave him the inspiration to write the script for the famous movie, ROCKY. He wrote the script for 20 hours! He tried to sell it and got an offer for $125,000 for the script. But he had just ONE REQUEST. He wanted to STAR in the movie. He wanted to be the MAIN ACTOR, Rocky himself. But the studio said NO. They wanted a REAL STAR.

They said he “Looked funny and talked funny”. He left with his script. A few weeks later, the studio offered him $250,000 for the script. He refused. They even offered $350,000. He still refused. They wanted his movie, but NOT him. He said NO. He had to be IN THAT MOVIE.

After a while, the studio agreed, gave him $35,000 for the script and let him star in it! The rest is history! The movie won Best Picture, Best Directing and Best Film Editing at the prestigious Oscar Awards. He was even nominated for BEST ACTOR! The Movie ROCKY was even inducted into the American National Film Registry as one of the greatest movies ever!

NO ONE KNOWS WHAT YOU ARE CAPABLE OF EXCEPT YOURSELF! People will judge you by HOW you look. And by WHAT you have. But Fight on! Fight for Your place in history. Fight for your glory. NEVER EVER GIVE UP!

Even if it means selling all your clothes and sleeping with the dogs, IT’S OKAY! But AS LONG AS YOU ARE STILL ALIVE, Your STORY IS NOT OVER.

The Beach 🏝️

Which film shoot shamefully destroyed a natural space to transform it into a set?
In 1999, Danny Boyle filmed The Beach with Leonardo DiCaprio, Virginie Ledoyen and Guillaume Canet.

For the main setting of the film, the producers are looking for an idyllic beach. They finally chose a beach in Thailand, Maya Bay, on the island of Ko Phi Phi Le.

However, the beach in question is not perfectly consistent with the paradise image that director Danny Boyle is aiming for. To make it completely idyllic, work is necessary…

Fox studio officials will then negotiate with Thai officials and obtain authorization to “redevelop” the landscape.

As the scenario describes the beach as being big enough to play football, a clearing will be created with a bulldozer. The vegetation bordering the beach is razed without qualms.

Then, as the trees that grew naturally along the beach are not telegenic enough, we brought in around a hundred palm trees from another region which we planted there. Even if this species, which is not indigenous to the island, could threaten the local ecosystem in the long term...

All the changes made to the nature of the island will prove catastrophic.

After production begins, seasonal storms hit the region. As the sand dunes are no longer protected by their natural vegetation, which has been razed, they collapse and are washed away by the sea, damaging the coral reef.

Although Fox had promised to return the beach to its original state after filming, this was not the case.

Thai environmentalists became aware of the problem and accused the film's production of bribing the Thai government to obtain legal permissions.

Apparently, Fox donated the equivalent of $100,000 to Royal Forestry Development in Thailand, 100 times more money than the organization typically charges to authorize filming. This is the sign of a bribe for environmentalists, who are suing Fox, its local partner Santa International and Thai officials.

The case dragged on for nearly 7 years, until a court finally ordered Fox to do everything possible to repair the environmental damage.

In 2022, after years of work, during which the beach was closed to the public, Maya Beach is finally accessible to tourists again, but with draconian restrictions: swimming ban, visit limited to one hour per person, number of visitors limited each day.

Was Die Hard supposed to originally be a sequel to Commando?

No... absolutely not.

Was Die Hard meant to be Commando 2?
During a interview with Bristol Bad Film Club, Steven de Souza, who wrote the initial draft of Commando 2 (which ultimately never got made) was asked about the whole Die Hard legend. It turns out, that's all it ever was, because as he tells it, there is absolutely no way Commando 2 was turned into Die Hard.

Steven tells the story on the subject of whether or not his Commando II script became Die Hard.

“So for Commando 2, we figured that Arnold, after blowing up half of Los Angeles, achieves some notoriety, retires from the army, and, by the time the sequel occurs, is running a security firm. The plot would have seen him hired by a big corporation to oversee their security to protect their executives from being kidnapped, to stop people breaking into their building, and to make sure their computers are secure. So he sets it up and hires the most dangerous people to be guards in the building and then lo and behold – he discovers the people he’s working for are in the illegal arms business and the big corporation is simply a front.”

“The end of the movie would see Jenny and Cindy, who is now a lawyer, trapped in the building and Arnold now has to defeat all the people he hired – all the meanest, toughest guards – as well as the security systems, the guard dogs, everything!

So how did the rumor start?

“So now, the awareness of Arnold Schwarzenegger trying to break into a building got conflated with Bruce Willis being trapped in a building.”

“I don’t know how this story started on the Internet – it’s completely wrong. Die Hard is based on a novel called Nothing Lasts Forever by the author Roderick Thorpe, which is a sequel to his early book The Detective. In fact, a good bar bet if you want to make some cash is to ask someone, ‘Who was the first actor to play John McClane and in what movie?’ They will say, ‘Bruce Willis in Die Hard‘ and you say, ‘No! Frank Sinatra in The Detective!’ and then run out before you get beat up. Interestingly, 20th Century Fox had to contractually offer Bruce Willis’s part in Die Hard to Frank Sinatra because it was a sequel to the original book! Fortunately for Bruce, he said, ‘I’m too old and too rich to act anymore.'”

However......

Commando shares a universe with both Predator and Die Hard. Each movie references a certain fictional location: Val Verde. Steven de Souza explains that the General from Die Hard 2 is from this country, and it's the hunting ground for the Predator.

When phoning his mother during the "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom" (1984) movie shoot, Ke Huy (Short Round) Quan referred to George Lucas and Steven Spielberg as "Bearded Man 1" and "Bearded Man 2."

An open casting call was put out to all the elementary schools to find a young Asian actor to play Short Round. Quan arrived with his brother, not to audition, but merely to provide moral support. He caught the casting director's attention because he spent the entire time of his brother's audition telling him what to do and what not to do. Spielberg liked his personality, so he and Harrison Ford improvised the scene where Short Round accuses Indy of cheating during a card game. Kwan won the role over about six thousand other auditions.

In the scene in "The Goonies" (1985), where rocks are falling from the cave ceiling, Quan screams "Holy S-H-!-T," spelling the expletive rather than saying it. He did this because his mother made him promise not to use any bad language in the movie.

Having studied Taekwondo under Philip Tan on the set of "Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom," Ke Quan later trained under Tao-liang Tan. As an adult, he worked as a stunt choreographer for "X-Men" (2000) and "The One" (2001) as the assistant of renowned Hong Kong fight choreographer Corey Yuen. He returned to acting as Waymond Wang in the film "Everything Everywhere All at Once" (2022), a role for which he received critical acclaim.

Ke Quan on entertainment lawyer Jeff Cohen, his co-star from "The Goonies" and legal representative: "We'll be friends for life. He's my 'Goonies' brother. In fact, my ['Everything Everywhere All at Once'] producer told me a really funny story the other day. He said never in his life did he think that he would have to talk to Chunk to get Data to be in his movie. I thought that was hilarious." (IMDb)

Patrick Swayze's fame caused problems during filming of "Road House" (1989). A pickup truck containing a group of middle-aged blonde women attempted to drive right up to the star's trailer to meet the actor. During the big fight by the river, a raft of Swayze-loving ladies sailed by. A female extra playing a waitress was too busy staring at Swayze to watch where she was going and tripped, spilling all of her drinks on another extra.

Marshall R. Teague, who played Jimmy, initially didn't get along with Swayze, but while filming their big fight, both men quickly realized they shared a dedication to realistic stunts, which improved their relationship. They developed so much mutual trust that they improvised a lot, and allowed each other to throw real punches and kicks. When Jimmy swings a log at Dalton, Teague mistakenly thought it was a breakable prop log. By the end, Swayze was covered in bruises and had two broken ribs and a busted knee.

Due to a knee injury he sustained during filming, Swayze turned down the roles of Gabriel Cash in "Tango & Cash" (1989) and Mike Harrigan in "Predator 2" (1990). He chose to make "Ghost" (1990) as his follow-up instead, as it was a less physically strenuous role. The knee injury ended up being a blessing in disguise, as "Ghost" ended up being a big hit, and received critical acclaim, while"Tango & Cash" was a box office flop.

According to Kelly Lynch, whenever Bill Murray sees her s*x scene with Swayze on television, he calls her husband, Mitch Glazer, to tease him about it. (IMDb)
